Rest easy, Longhorn fans, CB Aaron Williams made the list. Here are some highlights:
Offensive POTY -- Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M
Defensive POTY -- Jared Crick, Nebraska; Von Miller, Texas A&M
Five Longhorn defenders made the first-team defense: Sam Acho, Keenan Robinson, Aaron Williams, Curtis Brown, and Blake Gideon. Kyle Hix made the first-team offense.

Good point about Hunter.
Plus he can be a double threat- running and receiving. Unfortunately there isn’t all that much support talent-wise around him.

Must have been a close vote with Murray
Hunter had his injury last season, but I would take Spud over the fragile Murray over the course of a whole season. One game, maybe Murray, but the guy just can’t stay healthy.

Yeah, Murray has struggled
with the injury bug. Not too bad last year though and this is the first off season he hasn’t been coming off an injury or rehabbing. He’s done conditioning and flexibility (yoga I think). I’d like to see him have a good year and improve his draft stock.
DJ Monroe
I’m not sure how DJ isn’t the clear choice at KR. Heck, I’d have Goodwin above Gray as well.
I’d put C. Michael over Murray.
Surprised to see Good on first team. Has he done anything at OU besides show up as a 5 star recruit? Not that he doesn’t have the ability, but these lists seem to lean towards past results.
2 Career
1 in ’08 and 1 in ’09. He did have a great year returning kicks in ’08 (set A&M record) so maybe they are voting off of that.
i agree with c micheal..
…but i think with these, they give pref to people who might go pro after this yr. note only SR and JR being on the list.. im sure c micheal will b there next yr..
but i agree micheal should be on the list

Goodwin's KR touchdown was the most visible of the season
and Monroe missed the time at the end of the year because of his suspension, so it’s possible that the media just forgot about him or maybe don’t believe that he will be the primary kick returner this year.

Wow...
12 players on offense and 13 on defense! When did this happen!? Sweet! So we can play 5 D-linemen, 3 LBs and 4 DBs this year? We’ll be unstopable.

Wait, make that 5DL, 3LBs and 5 DBs…

Gideon on the first team
Is an utter joke. Is this really that much of a down year for safeties in the Big 12?
I'm sure Beergut would pimp Trent Hunter over Gideon.
I imagine the media experienced some major consternation at not being able to pencil in Jordan Lake at safety without even having to think and didn’t really know what to do at that point. But yes, I think the Big 12 is experiencing a down year for safety. I can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head who deserves strong consideration besides Hunter.

Still hating?
Dude had two fewer INTs than ET last season, has played every game since he came onto the 40 acres, and you’re still gonna take that attitude?
So because he had two less interceptions
He is automatically a great player? Are we only going to pick out the positives? You can’t honestly tell me that’s the only thing you go by if you are also going to defend Aaron Williams getting slighted at CB by so many prognosticators. And…“has played every game since he came onto the 40 acres?” Is that a joke? I don’t care that he’s played every game. He could start as a freshman and play for a 100 years but if he’s not any good then he’s not any good. Jesus what kind of stupid logic is that?
i think he has provided...
…more reason to go with his opinion than yours.
youve given zero reason for why you think he is bad. why should i care what you think when you make blanket statements without any analysis?
blake starting since freshman yr suggests that he was talented enough for the coaches to play him (sure in that year, we didnt have much options..). hence he obviously didnt suck :)
for someone who uses the word logic, maybe you should look into what logic really is…
and yeah, there is no reason to get nasty here. we are all here because we love the longhorns….

I've come to the conclusion that the best way to deal with
GoHornsGo90, is just to ignore him. He has already stated that Adrian Peterson does not have great speed and is in the midst of a meltdown with our 2012 recruiting class.
Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman

I said Peterson doens't have elite speed.
Reasons for sunshine pumpers not to like Gideon:
He is slow. He has terrible recovery speed. He is a very low quality tackler. He gets mauled by any decently sized RB, and massacred by any player bigger than that. He has slow recognition on play action. He is always behind the play and usually arrives once it has already been made, then jumps on the guy who’s already been tackled. He gets his interceptions because that’s the only spot on the field to throw to when the other 3 guys are first round draft picks.
Just because we have weak safety depth (two true freshman, yes one of them was a first round draft pick…doesn’t make the other one a star also) does not mean that a guy who plays for three year is intrinsically a great player. Same thing happened with Killebrew, Bobino, Hall, Boyd, etc. I almost laugh out loud when I hear that argument because it’s so “bled for the team-ish.”
Seriously, when this many people have to defend a guy for not being good, does it really tell you nothing?

And really 2Cor12:9
You’re going to ignore me because I made one point you disagree with? Is that your way with dealing with everything in life? How myopic.

I may have agreed with you..
…a few years ago. Not now. Mack and Muschamp put the best players out there. Do you honestly believe that Killebrew and co. would’ve started if Muschamp was here then? Gideon is at the right places at the right time, and helps the defense more than he hurts it.

You are an utter joke!
In Mack Brown We Trust!
I personally believe Gilbert will win Offensive POTY.

Jerrod Johnson has some serious shoes to fill
Previous preseason quarterbacks such as Sam Bradford in 2009 or Chase Daniel in 2008 or Colt McCoy in 2007 (his awful sophomore season) or Bret Meyer in 2006.
Given the Big 12 Off POTY jinx you just outlined
Would anyone really be surprised if Johnson doesn’t take that step forward and has a down year? Despite all the skill position talent there, if the offensive line just collapses, that doesn’t seem like a stretch to imagine, even if he only struggles against the tough teams on the schedule.

He completed more than 55% of his passes 6 times and fewer than 55% 7 times
Five times he completed more than 75% of his passes but only once was that against a real defense (no bonus points if you can guess who). He played QB last year exactly like the Aggies over the last 5 years: dominant against the crappy opponents, puddy against the good ones and bring it against Texas. He clearly has talent but if A&M isn’t great then he may take a big step back.
I think this is a great point
Looking at his ‘09 versus, say, Colt’s, it all looks pretty good with the exception of completion % and wins. Looks nice from a distance, but up close it has its big fat grease stains.

Here's where clutch leadership counts:
2009 Red Zone Success
Team Scores-Attempts
Texas 54-58 93.10%
TTech 52-61 85.25%
OU 50-59 84.75%
OSU 37-44 84.09%
A&M 49-63 77.78%
Baylor 26-40 65.00%
I also look at a "great" A&M quarterback...
in much the way I look at a “great” Chicago Bears quarterback.
I’ll believe it when I see it. The very uniform seems to preclude its existence.

If Jerrod Johnson wins OPOTY
I’m donating all of my beer to the 3 homeless guys that live in the ran down former business across the street.
I take that back, I’ll need all the alcohol I can get if that happens.

I really don't see a problem with Gideon as a 1st-teamer,
he has had very solid production and has been a starter since day one. Everyone remembers the dropped int versus texas tech, but give him a break. He’s a good safety.

Crick is overrated
We’ll see what its like w/o Suh big boy.
JJ is average
JJ played great against Texas I’ll give them that. What about Georgia? He was horrible. JJ is inconsistant and its not going to change in one year. I could understand if he was a freshman last year.
Kyle Hix?
Not really against Longhorns being on the list, but Kyle Hix and the rest of the OL is not really a shining beacon of QB and run protection. Eh Maybe they’ll prove me wrong. I doubt it, but it’s possible.
well..
If the NFL likes a player, that usually means thay are pretty good (damn aggie).
Good
OU fans opinions will chage if the OL as a whole plays well. He is still very young.
