Poll question - Neb & possible scenarios
We're all anxiously awaiting the start of practices and the season. So with that in mind, I've been contemplating potential scenarios when it comes to the Nebraska game.
Unless you're living in a 3rd world country, you've heard about the uprising in Husker-land and their big campaign to beat Texas. It seems as though not only have they assembled the kindling, firewood, and accelerant, but they've actually set the bonfire ablaze. (The game is in October, but apparently they've only circled one game on their calendar and the other games leading up to Texas are automatic victories. Personally, I'm not zoned in on this one game - I'm just feeding off the hype that's been laid out.)
For the sake of this argument, Texas winning both the Nebraska game and the CCG game is not an option. That's a no-brainer. So let the polling and discussion begin....
Would you rather:
1) Lose the Nebraska game during the regular season, but then win the Big 12 CCG - REGARDLESS of whomever the opponent may be. (Beating Nebraska in a rematch CCG would just be icing on the cake.)
2) Win the Nebraska regular season game and worry about the CCG after Thanksgiving.
Remember, CCG history usually favors the losing team from the regular season match-up.

Don't underestimate the hate building in the North teams?
I’m sure the old Big 8 teams feel jilted!
Perhaps the same fate awaits NU that befell upon Arkansas on thier way out the door of the SWC in the 90’s. They got spanked hard and have danced with irrelevance ever since.

Went back and checked for fun
Arkansas since joining the SEC: First Season 1992
Best Year 1998 9-3
7 Losing Seasons
Only 1, 10 win season
Only 4 Seasons with 9 or more wins
Except for 98, all 17 other seasons they have lost 4 or more games
Their 2 send-off years after announcing they would bolt for the SEC:
1990 3-8-0
1991 6-6-0
Grass ain’t always greener is it Cooter Cornhowler!
I call "shenanigans" on the poll!
The first option is totally hypothetical. Yes, I would rather lose to Nebraska (hypothetical) if the result is that we subsequently win the CCG (hypothetical).
The second option is only half hypothetical. Whether we win or lose the regular season game to Nebraska (hypothetical), we will still have to worry about (1) getting into, and (2) winning the CCG after Thanksgiving (cold, hard fact).
Yes, I would rather beat Nebraska in the regular season – but if I had the power to dictate one of the outcomes, I would definitely choose the first.
Am I misunderstanding the question?

Go Bevo
is really David Bowie from Labyrinth. Don’t get sucked into the madness!
Actually I just saw that movie on the Guide on my TV and have been waiting for any moment I could reference it.

I guess you
need to clarify your post. What is your reasoning for comparing me to him and “don’t get sucked into the madness.” Explain please….
Yeah the question seems biased.
Of course i would win the first if we still had a chance to win the second.
But if it was down to beat nebraska or championship id take the championship.
Are You Guys Freakin Nuts???
If we win the Big XII CCG – we will prolly be 12-1, and have beaten OU with a good chance to go to MNC. Lets keep our heads and not let a state that has so little to offer but corn and Nebraska football affect our senses.
I picked the first option
and was surprised to see I was in the strong minority. I guess I understand why everybody would pick the second, but I read it (and I think some of the above commenters did too) as the first one guarantees a BXII Championship, while the second doesn’t.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
The problem is if you lose just one game, you probably do not play for the MNC...thus win at Lincoln and hope for the best...
cue BCS rant if above mentioned happens.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought LSU was the first and only team with 2 losses making an appearance in the MNC.
To your point, one loss does not do you in…but is sure takes your fate and places it in the hands of voters…and of course, it all depends upon WHEN you lose…45-35.

That could be - I know they were only team that won with 2 losses
I would say prox 30% of games feature undefeateds.
The OP sets up as though it's either win vs. NU but lose CCG, or lose to NU and win CCG
But the poll doesn’t seem to reflect that. I would rather win the CCG, regardless of the opponent, than beat Nebraska in Lincoln. Beating Nebraska is big, but losing in the CCG could put UT in the Holiday Bowl.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

My point of the poll
- which apparently didn’t come across – was….
….would you be okay with a loss to Neb during the reg. season IF you knew that down the road we would win the CCG game…also knowing the CCG opponent most likely will be Neb. (But even if it wasn’t Neb in the CCG, would you say "big deal, Neb beat us, but we’re the conf champs, not to mention we’re 8 & 2 against Neb during the Big 12.)
OR
….are you so sick of the whining and hype Neb has already started about this reg. season match-up, that you just want to shut them up IN LINCOLN. Making it to the CCG is another issue that we’ll cross when we get there.
Personally, I’m sick of the whining and would like nothing more than to win in Lincoln. I want to crash the party and make them piss, moan, and whine some more. HOWEVER, if I knew that we would win the CCG and hold the trophy, then let the whiners have their last hurrah. Sure, it would honk me off for a couple weeks, but we would still be 8 & 2 against them and possess the trophy, so they can get bent.
So as you can see, I have some mixed emotions. I wanted to get a pulse for what everyone else thougth.
I'm still not sure I understand.
If the second option still allows us to play in the Big XII title game, what’s the incentive for not wanting to beat them the first time? The way you’ve put it, its as though the first option prognosticates the entire season but the second option pertains only to one week. That’s where the disconnect is coming from. So your poll essentially reads “would you rather go 1-1 against Nebraska or 2-0?” It doesn’t make any sense.
The poll would make sense if it were: 1) Lose the first game but win the Championship, or 2) win the first game but not go to the Championship.

Lets F up their world in Lincoln and then worry about the rest of it later
I’m also not so sure we would be seeing Nebraska in the CCG should we get there. I think Mizzou is gonna surprise some people. Nobody really knows how good Nebraska is gonna be, they have ZERO offense, unless Zack Lee has a revelation and figures out how to play football all of a sudden. That means they’re relying on their D, which just lost the most dominant defensive player I have ever seen. Crick < Suh, thats it and thats all, no way he makes anywhere near the same impact. Nebraska will find a way to shit their pants a few times this season to make the North competitive, they aren’t THAT good.
Yeah, Crick won't be as good
when he’s the one being double teamed. Suh demanded double and triple teams which let Crick have more freedom. And, if the defense isn’t as good they’re going to get outscored. So, you want to go ahead and beat them in Lincoln and take your chances in Dallas at the CCG. You gotta beat someone in the CCG whether it’s NU, MU or whoever.
