Texas Longhorns footall top 15 players, number 15
Hey guys, I'm writing a series of the top 15 players for UT next season. Let me know what you think about my selections and if anybody is too high/too low/shouldn't be on there at all. Here's number 15.

Cool undertaking
But I gotta disagree with #15. You mentioned the 7 other receivers he’s competing against; it’s not even clear whether DeSean is any better than 8th out of 8 on that list. I’ll reserve judgment on who should have been on there, but I suspect it will either be a solid contributor who just missed (maybe Chykie Brown), or another young gun who has even more potential with just as much of a depth chart to fight (maybe Jackson Jeffcoat).
Disagree here
If Will sees a problem on the inside, Acho is the top spin-down candidate on his list. Jeffcoat has ample opportunity to crack the two-deep and may be a better candidate than Johnson right now.
Meanwhile, Hales has to compete with a slew of talented receivers. Even at a returner position, where he could excel, we’re well stocked with Goodwin and Monroe (who are also, by the way, competition for him at the receiver/jet sweep positions). Also keeping in mind that we’re moving towards a downhill running attack and away from the 5 wide spread, and that’s less room for receivers to prosper.
Now there’s a chance Hales could surprise and become our 15th most valuable player; I’m just saying as a betting man, he’s not our 15th best player right now, nor is he the most likely to become our 15th most valuable player by the end of the year.
It's definitely possible.
And believe me, the faster Jeffcoat starts dominating the better to me. But UT’s DE rotation is one of the top 5 most stacked of any position (of any team) in the country. But from how glowingly people have spoken about Johnson, I have no higher expectation for JJ (this year, of course) than situational duty and dominant pass rusher towards the end of blowout games. Thanks for the response!

Unless MB and GD let you sit in on the offensive game-planning
this summer, there’s no way Hales is this high!
Now, I like the concept. It has a nice ring to it. I hope you’re right.
But unless Mack is lying about emphasizing the ground game, which presumably includes only 2 WRs some of the time, Hales’ chances will be extremely limited. He’s no better than No. 5 on the WR roster at this point, and that’s before 1 or 2 of the incoming frosh get a shot.
I agree this summer he is low on the chart.
But I think Hales will end up being a bigger contributor this year than both Kirkendoll and certainly Chiles. I have him third on the list, which I don’t think is completely unreasonable considering how well I think he plays with GG. I appreciate you guys reading and I think the next few players will fit much more in line with your sentiments. Oh and thanks for the comments :)
I heard..
..Chiles is blowing up in 7 on 7 w/ GG. I think he can have a Billy Pittman type of breakout year.

I’m a closet Hales enthusiast. I sat around with his old man and my old man for a half hour before the players-entering-stadium pregame event at the gates one time last year, and they was good people.
He’s a good player, hopefully finds an angle to distinguish himself from burners like Goodwin and bodies like Williams, and get some quality PT this year.
I’m interested to see if Davis has any variation on the basketball theme of going big or small with regards to our receiving / TE combinations this year. I wouldn’t mind seeing a 3 or 4 wide speed set to throw off defenses every now and then. Would give kids like Hales a real chance to shine, especially against some cornfed safeties

I guess that's how I feel also
Closet Hales enthusiast. Just have a good feeling about him.

unless the plans for our ground game tank
which has been the case more often than not the past 5 years, at which point we’ll go back to gunslinging and ball-control passing.
Saying we want to improve the ground game and actually doing it are two different things. We SAY it every year.

Sadly
I factored that into my equation. I guess I just don’t have a ton of faith in the resurgent O-Line right now :/ We’ll see though. Hopefully this year will be a turning point!
