Kicking Off The Season With EA Sports
I officially allow myself to begin getting excited for the upcoming football season each year during the second week in July -- when the annual editions of The Eyes of Texas and EA Sports NCAA Football hit the newsstands and store shelves, respectively.
So needless to say I was excited when EA Sports asked to sponsor a week's worth of posts leading up to the release of NCAA Football 2011 next Tuesday, July 13th. They weren't interested in telling us what to say, but rather in sponsoring a series of posts celebrating diehard fans of college football.
If you're like me, the annual release of EA's NCAA Football is like Christmas in July, and I'm more than happy to celebrate next week's holiday with a week-long look at what it means to be a fan of the Texas Longhorns. I'll be posting once a day between now and the release of the game next Tuesday, starting in a few minutes with the first of the series -- "Where I Come From: How I Came To Be A Diehard Longhorns Fan. From there, the series will unfold as follows:
Tuesday: All-Time Favorite Texas Teams
Wednesday: Tailgating Traditions (including a recipe for smoked brisket)
Thursday: All-Time Favorite Longhorns
Friday: Most Memorable Moments as a Longhorns Fan
Monday: Expectations for the 2010 Season
Tuesday: Christmas in July
EA Sports and I invite you to jump in the comment section of each post. I look forward to hearing all your own stories and traditions related to bleeding burnt orange.
Hook 'em.

I had thought about buying a PS3 and NCAA Football 11
But then I noticed the cover of the game. Looks like an excuse to wait another year.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I'm a diehard college football fan
but I decided to buy Madden last year. I haven’t had Madden since 1998 on Sega Genesis, but figure I’d give it a shot to see if the Madden hype is worth it. I played for a little while, only intrigued mostly by the drafting process. But after a few weeks, I stopped playing it altogether and put NCAA Football back in, and have been playing it since. I guess I’m not much of an NFL, which translates to my preference for NCAA Football.
It Ain't Easy, But It's Worth It.
I have not bought EA NCAA FB..
since the last edition for the original XBOX. I saw the previews for this years game and made sure I got a 360. It is like waiting for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, when does EOT hit the news stands? I live here in the Land of Thieves and need to know when to cross the RR to bootleg it back in the middle of the night.
We're Texas...and you're NOT
EA Sports
My favorite PC game ever was EA Sports MVP Baseball. Then they quit making it a few years ago. I guess the ML Players Union wanted too much money for the license or something. Wish they would bring it back.

I'm a big fan of the NCAA series but....
who is defensive lineman number 18 and outside linebacker number 9 in the demo? Donde esta las Acho hermanos?
I think it’s an error. 18 should be acho (81.) I think 9 is dravannti johnson. Don’t know where Emmanuel is…. ea messed up .

Emmanuel is normally 18, of course, and it's almost like they moved him to down lineman
9 is indeed Johnson. He came in as a linebacker, although I think he spent last year practicing at DE and TE, and I think he’d be best slotted at DE in the game.
Anyone have a link to the team roster in the game?

re: Eyes of Texas
PB, I went to the HEB at Hancock center (41st and Red River) this weekend (July 2nd or so) and EoT was nowhere to be found. Is it on the shelves at other HEBs?
