Reports: Sherrod Harris Leaving Team

Several outlets this morning (Dave Campbell's Texas Football is the Twitter link above) that senior back-up quarterback Sherrod Harris is considering leaving the team this fall. If Harris does depart -- and there are no signs of anything imminent on his Twitter page, at least -- the Longhorns would be left with two freshman back-ups at the position, Connor Wood and Case McCoy, both of whom enrolled early last spring. As if Garrett Gilbert wasn't under enough pressure already, this only increases the need to keep him healthy and could play some role, if relatively minor, in making sure Texas does actually provide more than lip service to running the football better and more consistently this season. Attempting to find a silver lining here, and not to dump on Harris, who has by all reports been a quality member of the program, but he's just never shown anything throwing the football and looked inconsistent throughout the spring, so there may not be a big drop-off from Harris to Wood, the expected leader among the two freshman.
