Postgame Celebration: Texas Downs Wyoming 34-7

The Texas Longhorns moved to 2-0 on the season with a 34-7 win over the Wyoming Cowboys, improving to 67-6 at home under head coach Mack Brown.

I'll be along in a little bit with a number of thoughts on the game, but in the meantime, this is your celebration thread.

We looked ok...but it was WYOMING!

We are missing something……will get a real test next week. TBD. I take nothing from this game. Looked just like last week.

We certainly ran the ball better...

No turnovers and no sacks.

The penalties are hideous, however.

34 is the new 52?

I’m betting someone else already said this in the game thread.

some negatives but

things that can be corrected dumb penalties ect,…. however I feel like we are very young team, yet we can be a dangerous team if they can continue to improve every week. Hookem!

would have liked to see more rushing yards and more carrier by one player....

…as much as im glad more than one running back contributed, i would have liked to see one get a majority of carries, at least 20 by the end of the game.
total rushing yards should have been much more too

deja vu all over again

I don’t see much change. Still RB by committee and no elite RB. Hello Malcolm Brown.

better kickoffs

At least Tucker did improve his kickoff distance – it should be like that every time.

Mike Davis

is a Shipley clone. D Money White got into the game too.I was sure he had a TD.

Only thing bad I take away from this is the report that Goodwin is injured.

by TCB Orange Dino on Sep 11, 2010 9:42 PM CDT reply actions

He did get back into the game

after the injury.

Gilbert had a quiet 389...

He really appeared to roll when Davis got in. Maybe it’s time to do what Mack did with Roy and BJ in 00. Was it me or was the defense rather vanilla this week.

Goodwin came back in the game

Had that long ball he should have caught and almost did….Chiles came back too. I think they will be fine, just a little shaken on that gang tackle. He is like a racehorse though, so fast and that usually means fragile.

Do you think M Brown will be our go to guy as a true Frosh? or do you think Shead may be legit? I thought Whaley was our guy, so now I’m not sure with Shead. But I do think Brown is going the real thing.

Mack said post game that next week

they might use quicker backs early (Tre, Fozzy) and Cojo in late 3rd, 4th.

So, it is by committee and they’re still feeling it out.

that quicker backs might be used early and then cody later to take advantage of the tired out defenses

The defense gave up more big plays than I thought they did.

Bolger’s long was 34
Ogbonna’s long was 29
Alexander had a 17
4 other receivers with a long of 17

The WY QB only completed 16 out of 24 so a lot of those balls went longer than I realized.

But we only let them score 7 so the D did its job.

by XoverX on Sep 11, 2010 9:50 PM CDT reply actions

Liked what I saw from Mike Davis

but GG seem’s to lock on to one receiver. Shipley nat’l championship game, tonight with Davis. I am not sure if I should be worried about this or not. Def. worried about the run game against better competition

On the Davis TD, GG looked off his first receiver and turned to Davis second.

After watching him the past two games

I made it a priority to watch to see if he did it today. He did, but not NEARLY as much as last week. I think he’s really getting comfortable out there, and it will start to show soon.

I don't know about that. He spread it around pretty good.

Most of Davis’ yards were after catch. More importantly, no interceptions.

by TXStampede on Sep 11, 2010 9:52 PM CDT up reply actions

A bigger problem GG has right now is his inability to move around inside the pocket. Watch his feet in the pocket when there is even slight pressure. He also spreads his feet too far apart, losing height.

Wyoming was bringing only 2 (both DEs) quite a bit and GG was frequent;ly seeing that as real pressure when it wasn’t.

Did anyone else get chills...

…seeing an all-too-familiar face of a QB in orange realizing he’s lost control of a game?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Well...

I for one liked what I saw tonight more than last week… The offense was much more loose and GG was too, he seems to be settling in. If they keep improving like this week over week, they are going to be really good by the season’s end. Next week will be a good test to really see where we are. Oh and … Blake Gideon was a monster tonight that was GOOD to see coming into the Tech Game.

Mike Davis

Davis was the best thing I saw tonight in my opinion. Besides the after-the-catch play making ability he showed, I was impressed by his feel for the soft spots in the coverage and always running his routes to the first down marker.
I was kind of let down by the crowd to be honest, I know it’s Wyoming but it was the first home game of the year and it seemed like nobody woke up until Fozzy’s big run. I know Mack metioned something about the crowd at Reliant being kind of a let down.

by nash89 on Sep 12, 2010 12:17 AM CDT reply actions

Few thoughts from the game...

First off got to say and I might be in the minority, but I really enjoyed listening to Joel Klatt and his perspective from the QB position.

I really and truly believe that Gilbert will be one of the all time best qbs ever. That’s not to say he will lead Texas to a NC or even win a Heisman or two. Remember Peyton Manning did neither. But I love his body language. That throw to Goodwin was one of the best throws I’ve ever seen. One of our fastest wide receivers ever didn’t have to break stride at all or slow down one bit and the ball hit him right in the hands (that drive ended up being a three and out and this was following the Wyoming drive that was aided by two 3rd down penalties). I was ticked off as I’m sure many of you all were as well, but his body language coming off the field after that 3rd down said it all. He had his helmet sitting on his head and he didn’t look frustrated, but at the same time he didn’t look to nonchalant. Don’t really no how else to explain it, but I feel confident that we have a great leader as our qb.

Also if you feel this post is pure hyperbole, please don’t try to convince me otherwise.

Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman
