Sounds good to me (pun intended)

The quieter they are the better our O-Line can hear the cadence.

2 things

Any fan have a right to complain if they get SPIT on. As A Longhorn, I am ticked off when I hear that a fellow horn does that to any other fan.

When did UT – TT become a rivalry???

My guess

is that some administrator at Tech—a Dean of Students’y type—asked the Tech SG to come up with a student initiative to improve the behavior of students towards opposing fans. And, like UT when Ohio State came to town, the initiative was to be unveiled in conjunction with the marquee game of the season.

However, instead of addressing the harassment of Longhorns fans, which was the task, the SG initiative instead focused on how the Longhorns themselves were treated. Which makes absolutely no sense.

I dont know anything about the SG President from Tech, but my guess is that they dont really understand college football…this is silly.

(PS for RQ—Go Rangers!)

While I agree that the use of silence

in this particular instance is borderline stupid, and the motivations derived from political correctness, I often used to think this would be great strategy to unsettle opposing teams.

Imagine a basketball player, in an attempt to make an important free-throw, is surrounded by 15,000 dead silent faces just staring at him. You can hear a cough at the back of the arena. I would think this would contrast expectations enough to unsettle him, at least a little bit, maybe heighten the tension of the moment. But who knows?

Or what of a quarterback yelling at the top of his lungs in the huddle, addressing the next play to his teammates amidst brain-numbing noise from the crowd, and the subsequent shock of dead silence when he steps under center. A moment ago he could barely hear his own thoughts, and now he hears his own screaming cadence echoing around an awkward , silent stadium. It brings to mind the phenomenon of yelling over loud music at a party when the music suddenly stops, and the subsequent awkwardness that follows. I would think that might be enough to affect one’s nerves, at least until one acclimated to it. But again, who knows?

That's why Texas fans at the game

should cheer while we’re on offense and defense.

It would be amazing

But a bunch of drunk Tech fans being quiet for a night game against Texas…..they’d rather lose than not be allowed to spit their vinegar.
