Disappointing loss in the near term, but hopefully it won't linger. Obviously, Mike Davis' breakout happening sooner rather than later was a very, very good thing. --PB--

Yep

Hopefully this means a whole game of Davis!

Since they're burning the redshirt, might as well make it worthwhile, right?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I love Mike D as much as anybody else

but JC was looking much improved this season. Sad to hear.

Damn

Not good news. Chiles newly found hands and route-running ability would have been a nice asset for GG in Lubbock.

Downfield blocking

I think this will be the biggest impact of John missing the game.

by TXStampede on Sep 17, 2010 3:31 PM CDT reply actions

Haven't watched for it this year

but I remember last year watching DVR’d games and seeing Chiles miss a lot of down field blocks. I guess he has improved in that area if you are saying we will miss it.

But I have heard that typically blocking is what a freshman will not do well.

Well

I know Davis loves hitting people in the blocking game. White has the frame for it, so there’s hope on that front. My biggest worry about John being out is Kirkendoll gets more playing time.

Looking on the bright side

The WR position is the one position we have plenty of depth. Chiles going out does allow some new play makers the opportunity to make their mark, such as Hales and White.

Better Chiles sits out now then makes things worse and he’s forced to sit out for the OU game.

oh man...that sucks

I personally prefer Davis’ speed and agility, but it’s frustrating to see a good guy, who’s done a lot of work in the off-season…and everything the program has asked of him since he arrived in Austin, go down right before a big game. Not fair to him. Plus, as mentioned above, he’s pretty consistent when it comes to blocking. Hopefully he can recover and get his chance to play soon! Hook ’Em!

Ugh.... Chiles came up big when the offense was struggling early against Wyoming.

Could open the door for a breakout game by Davis, but I’d rather Davis be replacing Capt. Kirk. Chiles was showing some real potential.

This isn’t helpful.

by notsofst on Sep 17, 2010 4:32 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

Plus Chiles has been sure-handed so far, which is often more important on the road in a hostile environment than a gamebreaking receiver who’s not going to move the chains consistently.

Not good

If it was Kirkendoll, I wouldn’t sweat it, but Chiles has legitimately looked much improved.

Maybe we'll also see more Hales

And I’ve heard Hales has good chemistry with GG since they worked together a lot last year

by junglerules on Sep 17, 2010 5:26 PM CDT reply actions

Not Exactly...

What you want to hear on the eve before the game but i’m sure the Team had an idea all week about this and prepared for it. Although the lack of Mack mentioning this in his Monday Press Conference kind of makes you worry a bit

i haven’t been able to watch the RIce or Wyoming game so looking forward to catching the entire Tech game with a cold one (or two)

6 actually

if referring to the groin muscles, 3 adductor muscles on each side that run from the pelvis to the inner femur.

If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

Nah

I learned something today. That John Chiles has SIX groins.

I have no idea why they’re discussing John Chiles’ groin so much in bio classes, though…

One persons misfortune is another person's opportunity...

We’ll see who seizes the opportunity. Hales and White, I am looking at you if you get more playing time tonight.
