Showboating After Junk TD Bad Indicator
There's nothing, nothing positive to take away from the field of play in the debacle against UCLA. That was a flat out terrible performance in every element of the game by these 2010 Longhorns. The only positive take away that can come from it is that these kids wake their asses up and start playing the talent they were recruited, come together as a team from the humiliation they all experienced and develop the passion that's needed to be a Texas-caliber squad.
But the indicator I noticed that makes me think that's going to be a hell of a challenge for this coaching staff to overcome is the showboating by Kirkendoll after that junk time TD. Showboating when you're getting your ass kicked all over the field with two and a half minutes left in the game demonstrates a lack of maturity and no comprehension of the game he was involved in. I'm afraid we've got a collection of "I's" on this team who aren't listening to their coaches. The lack of focus that five turnovers indicates combined with the failure to execute basic fundamentals like illegal substitutions and showboating after a meaningless TD calls to question if the 2010 assembly of Texas Longhorn football players have any character, heart or the selflessness needed to be a winning program.
How they rebound against OU will let us all know if they're a 5-6 loss team that never clicks over the entire season or a team that just needed to get an ugly wake up call to show who they are. The showboating that Kirkendoll thought was appropriate and would not earn the scorn of his teammates makes me think the former is more likely than the latter to occur. But I'll always hope the latter is the reality.

I'll let Kirkendoll do whatever he wants
After all the criticism he’s received in the past year, he might very well be our best receiver at this point – and that says a lot more about his teammates than it does about him.

agreed
prolly felt pretty damn good to finally stick one in the endzone. thats the most emotion the team showed on offense all day. I had no problem with him being pumped to score. prolly was a message to the team saying come the eff on we should have done this all day

however
I doubt Kirk’s celebration was a sign of leadership. If it was, it would seem to run counter to what most of the WRs did all day long. The WRs (except Goodwin and Davis) had the worst body language of anyone on the team yesterday. Malcolm looked pissed after making a catch, Chiles moped, etc. Kirkendoll’s celebration was pointless and reflected the “me” mentality that seems to define those three. If those guys made plays consistently I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were frustrated that they weren’t getting open downfield, or frustrated that Gilbert was checking down too quickly. Whatever the case, that body language is unnecessary and uncalled for. Its a distraction on a team without true leadership. The older guys should know this and they ought to set an example instead of thinking of themselves.
Bottom Line
Bottom Line: Winners don’t showboat after an ass-kicking; only losers who value individual accomplishment over their team do, and only teams that accept losing tolerate it from teammates after an ass-kicking. It’s immature and individualistic, the last things you want on a TEAM focused on winning!
moreover
Is Gilbert going to his check down so hastily a sing that he doesn’t trust his offensive line? If so, could anyone blame him after the Tech gam?
Reading BC, Gideon was apparently shit talking all game when he made tackles

Yep
I remember one play in the 3rd (IIRC) where Prince gained about 8 and Gideon knocked him out of bounds lightly. BG proceeded to stare, talk shit and carry on like it was Colorado 2005. I really want to like Gideon, but I cannot stand that shit. A little less TO and a little more Stanley Richard/Earl Thomas please.
i loved it
Personally i liked it. Gideon showing emotion that no matter whats going on he is not giving up. Infact what he told the QB was "you better run out of bounds mother ******. He went out of bounds right before BG would have destroyed him. We need these guys playing hard and staying tough and being physical. Im not saying talk crap but its a war down there whether you like it or not

Might be reading too much into that one. You could tell from the pacing that Mack or someone told them that the ship had sailed, and they needed to put together one coherent drive to end the day. Why do you think they went for two? It was practice, and a message that they need to push it and do better.
