- The big change at wide receiver is that Marquise Goodwin is now the starter at the Sub B position, displacing senior James Kirkendoll.
- At tight end, Barett Matthews is now the starter over Greg Smith after being listed as a co-starter there for several weeks. This despite another dropped pass from Matthews against UCLA.
- No changes along the offensive line, but it is possible that some of the young players will again receive more early playing time.
- DJ Monroe and Fozzy Whittaker are now the co-starters at tailback, so Monroe is your new Flavor of the Week at running back -- at least the coaches are recognizing the importance of getting the ball to the fastest player on the team. How's that for innovative all you Greg Davis haters?!?!? #sarcasmfont
- After again failing to show the slightest ability to play the zone read, Dravannti Johnson has been demoted to back-up strongside linebacker -- Emmanuel Acho is the new starter there.
- Dustin Earnest and Jared Norton are now the co-starters at middle linebacker.

Britt Mitchell
Oh, hell.
Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you soon enough. If he's not, don't embarrass him.
he's not gonna get better..
..he’s been here how long?

He's not going to get any better
Than the people playing behind him, and they have been here 4 less years. And have those years left.

Has Mack released an updated depth chart
for the coaches yet?

If only
this would happen…who is our replacement for Greg Davis? Maybe we could have silent cardboard cutout GD at starter, real GD at backup
Greg Davis -OR- Cardboard cutout of Hook 'Em

Thank you for using the correct nomenclature. For whatever reason it bugs me when people don’t distinguish between Bevo the bovine and Hook Em the cheerleader wearing a mascot suit.

RB and Punt Return
Granted DJ did not play flawless football but 8.5 yards a carry is pretty good if your OL is only opening up wholes that are large enough for a credit card to fit through. Once DJ and GG can get that exchange thing down watch out. I thought DJ had great vision during the game. Other RBs your on notice.
I am surprised to see Cu. Brown returning the punts still. He made terrible decisions during the punt returns and quiet frankly just does not inspire confidence in his ability to house a return.
ATX
DJ is gonna get snapped like a twig.
He’s tiny – not like Jacquizz Rodgers tiny, but legitimately tiny. I can’t expect him to hold up too well against a stout defense.
I don’t like it at all. I think it sets him up for a whole lotta fail.
Divine was actually injured in the game against LSU..

You are correct...
Just thought it was ironic that he got injured in the last game he played and you’re talking about his health.

He's slipeery! He won't get hit too hard.
Probably a lot of arm tackles.
Honestly
It boggles my mind that we haven’t tried Goodwin, Monroe, or even Hales at PR…

Fake punt
They want defenders back there in case there is no punt.
I think Goodwin proved Saturday that he can tackle.

Did anyone watch the OU-Cincy game?
Now that PR for Cincy was clueless. Dude dove to catch a punt that was going out of bounds. At least Curtis can say he hasn’t done that.

Mike Davis
He 100%? Need, need, need him
Wha...? No Whaley? No Hills?

Mike Davis
I was wondering, too. Is Mike Davis at 100%. I see him as Co-Starter so I assuming it is at least close to it.
Can't possibly be 100%
He never returned after the injury. I thnk Mack is trying to deke the Sooners’ preparation by listing him as the starter.
Re the Mitchell angst: Mack called him out as having played well (he and Malcolm Williams were the only offensive players I can recall). Who would you start in Mitchell’s place? Seriously. Hopkins? Kelley? On what basis? You can’t just put a name out there.
Should have mentioned that Alex Okafor
is now starting over Tyrell Higgins at the other defensive tackle position.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Sep 27, 2010 12:06 PM CDT reply actions
This is exciting
Okafor has a lot more potential than Higgins, and I like that he’s been showing the staff enough to officially get the nod as a starter.

Question:
Why is Case not holding? I would think we’d want to have a legit QB in there, especially since current-day Mack has shown at least a willingness (if not a propensity) to go for fakes when the situation is right?
Shipley was the previous holder
and the number one priority is getting the football down 100% of the time.

Chykie Brown
You’ll note that he is no longer playing CB for us (as Aaron Williams will certainly take the majority of snaps at that position amiright?).

Whoops my bad.
AW is the starter in the Nickel which is our base. Chykie will get starter’s minutes.

Curtis didn't lose his punt returner job?
This is so infuriating. I don’t understand why we aren’t using actual ball handlers there in the first place, much less why we are sticking with two kids who have clearly demonstrated an inability to handle the position.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
i completely agree...
…i really am extremely frustrated by this. it seems there is no accountability for giving a poor performance in some positions. its surprising since there is talent that could probably take over and probably do better

Not defending Curtis Brown . . . but one mistake and hit the road?
Should Peyton Manning have been demoted because he failed to win the Super Bowl?
Wait a second...
Who was it that muffed the punt at Rice? I thought it was Brown. Was it Williams? I was calling for Brown’s head because I thought the muffed punt that never should have been fielded against UCLA was Brown’s second muff.
Coaches have already responded to the alternative suggestions of
Monroe, Goodwin, and Hales. Those three are less reliable than CB and AW fielding punts.
This year, obviously, Brown and Williams have committed one major eff up. I don’t agree that one mistake disqualifies one from handling the position.
Oh
Less reliable than AW and CB. That seems HIGHLY in question right now.
by GoHornsGo90 on Sep 28, 2010 12:07 AM CDT up reply actions
One?
I think there have been more than one each for certain. Brown has no idea which punts he should and shouldn’t field. Last Saturday it bit the team in the arse, but I remember one earlier in the season when he fielded one and did happen to pick up a few yards, but really should not have returned.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

same ol same ol...
..change in RB, same players that have not done well at OL, etc etc.
i would love to have confidence in this team and these players, and confidence that the coaches are trying to make things better, but i dont see anything that suggests to me that is the case…
i think things will get worse before they get better. sorry for the pessimism, i think this season might separate the fair weather fans from those who support and love the team no matter what.

The season has been doomed since the spring....
When they tried to institute a downhill running game with this personnel. We’ve been laying on the train tracks all year waiting to get ran over, we finally got ran over by UCLA. We’ll see who is next. Hopefully the wholesale changes that aren’t evident on this depth chart will be evident in GD’s scheme and game plan next week. One can only hope right?
yes…one can hope. i think we need to get KILLED by OU. if we play a mediocre game and lose by three nothing will change. GD has had a heisman candidate qb who runs the zone read better than anyone in the country to bail out his inept offensive scheme for the past few years. Not any more…neer understood having world class speed stop and turn around before catching a pass. Saw it twenty times at least this week in austin…rediculous. Trap draws for two feet…swing passes for two yards? OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!!!? Really this the best we have for these athletes to run??
by hornboxer on Sep 27, 2010 5:10 PM CDT reply actions 1 recs
Need GD to watch some boise games. How is it that a school with a student body of twelve and a stadium capacity of eighteen can and WOULD beat the ever-living HELL outof the TEXAS FRIGGING LONGHORNS??? Watch their plays on offense….speed utilized to its fullest and points by the barrell. Our athletes can run with anyone on THE PLANET!!! GD-get some creativity or admit that the game is moving by and do what is best for the program and endorse Mike Leach as your replacement….I’m ok with waterboarding!!! :-)
Leach would a great fit!!
I must agree with hornboxer about mike leach, I think he would really help us open up our offense like he did at slOwU &tech especially since we have better overall talent than he’s ever coached at tech (minus crabtree)!
It's hard being a Longhorn fan in the state of Oklahoma!!
by okhornfan on Sep 28, 2010 12:10 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Lost on GD
The whole offense is lost. I now no longer critique his play calling because I simply think it is irrelevant. None of the plays seem to work, and the ones that do tend to fail due to execution. That miss by GG in the endzone? Ridiculous execution. Throwing short of the first down on a 4th down gamble to a TE – Ridiculous play call. We are prolly doomed either way.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
GD
I serious think he is clueless. I still don’t think he knows how bad/obvious his play callings have been. I would love to see us expose other team’s weakness, instead of other team exposing our offense’s weaknesses. He apologizes every week, but he continues to put our players in bad position to make plays. Good DC will eat up his game plans.
I hope he micromanages players a little more this week. Instead of sitting in a room alone squeezing out his brain to come up with a game plan. OL, WR, RB, QB all needs to gel together.
I predict 31-13 loss to OU if nothing changes this week.
If the horns will stop shooting themselves in the foot
They’ll blowout OU!
