To the Burnt Orange Nation...I'm a loyal Sooner and will be pulling hard for my team on Saturday. I hope that we crush you! But that's not why I'm posting this. I wanted to say that for me, and for most of the Sooner Nation if you've read any of the posts on other sites, this shooting really puts things into perspective and we're disgusted by the Twitter thing with Jaz Reynolds. UT has handled this situation as best as could be expected and my hat's off to the students, their families, and to the administration. It's easy to get caught up in the rivalry. I get caught up in it big time. I'm never as happy as after an OU win over Texas. And when OU loses I can't wait until the next year and the possibility of sweet redemption.
BUT...aside from the rivalry and all of the emotions that go with it on both sides there's a human side to it that cannot be ignored. My thoughts are with everyone in the Burnt Orange Nation who have been touched by this tragedy. I have a bunch of friends in Texas. Most are UT fans. A couple are A&M fans and one is a Tech fan because he lives in some town called Muleshoe (which sounds charming and, apparently, is a few tumbleweeds away from Lubbock), and we all text each other on game days giving and receiving crap based on how our respective teams are playing. That's what makes it all so much fun!
Saturday's game is a huge deal for all of you and for me even though we're going to be on different sides. And, again, I really hope y'all get half-a-hundred hung on you. But the Burnt Orange has my concern over the events of this week, my apologies for Reynolds and others who have posted equally callous comments, and my respect for the history and tradition of the program.
Love y'all 364 days of the year! But this Saturday I'll be on the opposite side. I'll love y'all again Saturday night with an Oklahoma win. Probably take me till Sunday with a Texas win. But I'll get there.
