Texas vs. Rice Open Thread
Texas Longhorns at Rice Owls, Sep 4, 2010 2:30 PM CDT
Here's to the Garrett Gilbert Era. And here's to not seeing the Screaming Lady nearly so much this season.
Have at it. Stay thirsty, my friends.

Wow...
…just noticed in the pool I’m in with 16 others (not all Horns fans) that I was the only one who took Rice at +28.5.
Hungry Hippos, baby! It's on!
45-10
More or less expecting a defensive or special teams score for the good guys.
proud to swim home
So you're saying...
…Muschamp is going to have a bad day. :)
Or that could be a pick six for Rice. That explains their getting into double digits.
Hungry Hippos, baby! It's on!
I'm allowing for blown coverage/tackling from a freshman late
And then great weeping and gnashing of teeth that some 18 year old isn’t “Texas Good” because he made a mistake against Rice.
proud to swim home
Wait...
…you’re predicting that there will be some gnashing of teeth on a BON Game Thread?
Way to go out on a limb there.

Hook em!
Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you soon enough. If he's not, don't embarrass him.

HOOKEM HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully Gilbert has a better day then Brantley and the gators are haven.
Twentysomething total yards of offense prior to the Demps run
I’m pretty confident UT will best that on the first drive.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I rode that good luck charm straight to the national championship with the older one, and at least to the title game with the second one.
Have to say I got a vasectomy, though.

I blame my wife for losing to Alabama
We had a good-luck onesie for the little one.
I learned after I returned home from the Rose Bowl that she changed him out of it with five minutes to go. You know, when everything went to hell.
I still bring it up every once in a while.

That's some major mileage you can get out of that one

I'm ready. Let's go. Waiting on Florida to beat Miami of Ohio.
The play of Florida, although enough to beat Miami, is sloppy enough to lose to a non MAC team.
too cool for my liking.
68 degrees at kick off time. during the week is was in the 90s but I like Texas weather better.
Another botched exchange to Brantley
Remember when Mike Pouncey said he was returning to Florida so that he could play center and go in the first two rounds?
Yeah, that’s kind of slipping away right now.

Did you see that last TD by Florida? Looks good at the stat sheet and there may very well be some voters who look at the final score and overlook this game, but this offense has looked terrible.

On a serious note
I don’t think Anderson proved he was better than Leinart. I think it’s a product of two things: 1. Whisenhunt never liked him that much (remember, he didn’t draft him) and 2. Leinart more or less called him out for it. Leinart was stupid for doing that, but I don’t think Whisenhunt handled the QB situation well at all.

Yeah. OK. I call a FG on the first drive a loss.
They marched down the field against Boom’s D. Not good at all.
i don’t mind. they threw us a changeup with the changed QB, and chykie gifted them half the yards they gained.
Not too surprising
They caught us on a few misdirection plays, they took advantage of a Chykie brainfart, and they get a field goal. That’s adrenaline for the first game. I think the D is going to settle down and that’ll be that for Rice.

Great couple of plays by Goodwin
One’s wiped out by accepting the penalty, but still, good stuff.

Goodwin is the guy
get him he ball, he’s quicker than anyone out there
Classic GD Brilliance.
Play-action to throw a 2-yard screen. Wow. This guy is a genius.

Would yall rather have a kicker who missed half his PATs but never missed a FG or a kicker that never missed PATs but was only about 70% on FGs
Visit my blog on all things college football, Pigskin Phenom.
The latter provided that meant we were getting lots of TDS

Precisely what I'm seeing
CJ just takes so long . . . Cunningham was right-on when he said Tre’s cutback style should work well with this offense. And he has a real chance to get 15, 20, where Cody gets half that.
Anyone still concerned about MW

he has had some bad calls. He hasn’t passed enough to set up the screen and draw that he called and he didn’t run a sweep or stretch to try and set up that reverse to Goodwin earlier.
