TE Greg Smith, Texas: Considering the 2010 season wasn't a great one in Austin, Smith needed a strong performance to generate positive press. He came through, leading all Shrine Game receivers in catches (four) and yards (77), while providing the longest play from scrimmage with a 35-yard reception in the third quarter. Athletic with soft, reliable hands, Smith could sneak into the late rounds, considering this year's weak class of tight ends.

I can't even come up with words.

Surprise doesn’t begin to cover it. Good for him. Bad, maybe, on our coaching staff.

Regardless, a good Longhorn. He wasn’t gifted enough physically to be the threat we wanted, but he learned the position twice (before and after playing on the inside) and also served as a deep snapper. Pretty good blocker, it seemed to me. Filled a need, gave it his best.

I didn't know he could even run 35 yards on one play

Next he’ll beat out Jermichael Finley for a Pro Bowl spot next year.

We have a 12th man and he's Bryan Harsin

I can't decide

if I’d be happier for the guy for his success, or more outraged at the inability to use him well while he was here.

Also, I can’t post a link, but Hookem 24/7 says that Irby has been cleared medically to practice per Bohls?

If true..

This is amazing

Always wanted to see irby and Shipley work the middle of the field together. Two years later might get that chance with Shipley the Younger. Irby deserves a 5 min standing ovation after his first catch.

Well I must say, I always knew keeping my sig intact would pay off in the long run.

Still a Blaine Irby fan

best damn blocking tight end we've had in 5-6 years

average receiving TE, yes he volleyed most of the passes, but still i think he could be a FA pick up

"We'll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!"

This just blows my mind.

He has 60 yards receiving all season and then has 77 in a game where no one plays more than a couple quarters.

Was he poorly utilized or was this just an exceptional game?
I think it’s the latter.

Could be both

Hard to see this and not feel like we could have used him more last season
