On this day, 5 years ago...

January 4th, 2006

Texas 41, USC 38

Box score

Play-by-play

Vince Young graced the Rose Bowl with the most legendary performance by a college football player in ages. The final play that will be forever sealed in our memories is here (of course, let's not forget the defensive stand on 4th and 2 either):

Happy 5 year anniversary to what will probably always be my greatest moment ever as a UT sports fan and sports fan in general.

Whenever I am in a bad mood...

I watch VY break hearts across Southern California and it brings a smile to my face.

Hook’em.

Boise State choked while Auburn enjoyed a comeback for the ages. I'll have another heaping helping of hypocrisy, please.

agree, with 1 stipulation,

that EVERYTIME we beat ou, is a very close 2nd……….

I can't believe it's been 5 years.

Truly one of the best games of all time. How, oh how, did we end up here?

There is not a situation or individual that cannot be improved by the addition of chocolate.

There is no better moment in Texas Longhorns' sports history.

I preferred the 1969

Arkansas game . . . your first MNC is always the best. I even remember the ‘63 national title, but I’d only been in the state a few months.

What I remember best about five years ago is that fourth-down stop with 2 minutes left. I kinda assumed we’d win once we got the ball back. If we didn’t score too soon . . .

Maybe I'm becoming an old softie...

…but I get all misty-eyed and emotional when I watch that. I for one will NEVER forget it, as I live in Oklahoma and, quite obviously, am surrounded by sooner worshippers. It must’ve been damn near midnight when the game finally ended, right? My wife had gone to bed, I had to be at work at 6am the next morning, but as we all know, there was NO WAY in hell we’d miss that game. It’s amazing how great I actually felt the next morning, even on 3 hrs. sleep. With these new coaching hires, I again feel excited and hopeful for the future and hope to experience that joy and elation that I felt that night and in the wee-wee hours, waking my wife and kids with my cheers and tears…Hook em

Ha!

So I’m not the only one! Instead of watching bowl games this season, we’ve broken out both those DVDs and watched them with the oldest boy. (He was in diapers back in the day.)

Watch out, I bite.

Still gives me chills

Whatever his challenges in the NFL and life, I will always love VY for that most exciting sports memory ever.

Watch out, I bite.
