I hope that this is all just specutlation...
I don’t know that I could handle another coaching search, and Manny is building a championship caliber defense. I would hate to see him go. Even though it is a HC gig, it is a step back, maybe two, from the DC position at Texas.

Maybe Tuberville
will go back there.{Oh how I wish!}. Hope you guys can keep Manny. He has done a great job IMO.
Who knows. Maybe they hire the Captian. I would love to see him coaching again.

I think we'd all love to see Leach coaching again.
Especially since it’s come to light that the whole closet incident never actually happened and it was the powers that be just making stuff up to get rid of him. He got a raw deal in all that, even if he is just a crazy man.

Manny
Ole Miss isn’t Florida. Why bother taking a bottom tier SEC coaching job whenever you could wait 2 years, have a legitimate shot at the MNC, then the Ohio State, Florida, etc jobs give you looks.
So you think in a couple years the Florida job will be open again?
And if it is, which I doubt it will be, do you think they will hire another DC with no HC experience? No way!
Do not be distracted by what you see, but be transformed by what you believe.
no but
I guess I should have said schools like Florida or like Ohio State. My point is, you just don’t take the first head coaching job that comes your way unless you can’t pass it up. Chizik is really, really lucky Auburn hired him after posting a 5-19 (2-14) record after two years at Iowa State. If you fall on your face with your first head coaching job, chances are getting that big time job won’t come around anytime.
This is a problem you want to have as a program.
It means we’re doing something right if other schools want our coaches. If Diaz goes we will find a suitable replacement just like we did for Muschamp and for Chizik.
Do not be distracted by what you see, but be transformed by what you believe.
Only for the sake of discussion
Were Manny to leave (which I doubt will happen this soon), who would be on our radar? I’ll admit I haven’t kept up with other programs recently, so I’m very curious as to which candidates names would be thrown around.
John Chavis, Kirby Smart (though both are bound to be in the running for HC gigs already)
Apart from them I have no idea who you’d go to.

Chavis actually would've been a guy I'd rather have had than Diaz in the first place
I’d go for that. There was a lot made on the other popular UT fanblog about how wonderful it is to have all this youth and such on the coaching staff, but give me an experienced badass like Chavis over an unproven youngster any day.

to be honest...
…if manny thinks he is ready to coach at a program, hes mistaken, and will surely fall off the map if he takes a HC job this early since he will not succeed… there is so much to learn to be a successful HC and IMO, even though mack isnt a strategic genius, hes probably the best person to learn from of how to be the face of a program. it is more prudent with what is going on at penn state since programs realize a decent person as HC is a rare commodity.
and manny hasnt spent much time, he needs to solid few yrs before he should even think about an HC job. there a lot of things he will see mack handle through the yrs and he can learn a lot through this for his future HC career
i think a lot of people take jobs too early and then fall on their face. i hope manny is smarter since he is so young and has potentially a great future ahead of him
manny should totally milk this for more money from us, but taking the job would be a bad decision

Manny might take a pay cut if he took that job.
if your Manny, thanks but no thanks. Set your sights high. DC of the Texas longhorns has to rank higher than 80% of the head coaching jobs in college football.
ESPN thinks Rich Rod is a front runner for the job...

I thought the Texas DC job was too many skipped rungs up the ladder for Diaz
And I definitely feel that would be the case again if he were to take a big HC job. I think it’d be more defensible for a school like Southern Miss to hire him, but I don’t think he’d take it right now. He hasn’t earned any stripes yet.
