With Michael Vick battling two broken ribs and yet to practice this week, back up quarterback Vince Young may get his first start as a Philadelphia Eagle. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, VY and Mike Kafka split the first team reps in practice Wednesday, and Young is preparing to play:
Vince Young allowed today that "it's been tough" adjusting to a backup role the past few months, but he said he has worked hard "behind the scenes" to get comfortable in the Eagles' offense.
Young said he is "getting better and better each day" through studying, though when Vick is healthy, Young's practice reps are extremely limited. 'Overall, (quarterbacks coach) Doug Pederson and Mike (Vick) and Mike Kafka do a great job of making sure I know the plays and saying them and things like that."
Prior to getting injured last year, Vince Young appeared well on his way towards a possible third trip to the Pro Bowl. Through 9 games Young had completed 93-156 passes (60%) for 1,255 yards, 10 TDs and just 3 INTs. Both his 8.0 yards per attempt and 98.6 QB Rating led the NFL at the time. As I noted earlier this year: Vince Young can throw the football. Here's to hoping he gets a chance and plays well this week.
The Eagles play at the New York Giants on NBC's Sunday Night Football.
