Maybe it's just me, but Stoops' quotes in this story appear to me to be clearly of the throw-him-under-the-bus variety. It sounds a whole lot like "We would have won the game if that worthless DB had stayed in the flat". Couple that with what he said about his safety to the sideline reporter at the half of the same (Baylor) game, and I'd say ol' Big Game Bob is showing some character flaws.
On the other hand, maybe I'm misinterpreting. What say you?
