Which Bowl Do You Want to See Texas In?
With the Big 12-2 season closing out and bowls ready to be announced after this weekend's games the Longhorns are ready to get back to bowling after last year's absence. It looks like it will come down to an invitation to one of three bowls: Holiday, Alamo or Insight.
Okie Lite and OUSucks will likely be going to the Fiesta and Cotton Bowls, though an OU win could result in the conference receiving an At-Large invite to another BCS bowl, as would an OSU win - if they found themselves in the NC game.
After that, the Alamo Bowl is considered the next highest tier bowl where the P12 fields an opponent and the payout is larger. It's also in San Antonio where a clear home field advantage will be likely.
Then comes the Insight Bowl, where the B1G conference will have the other selection waiting in Phoenix. And it's on a Friday night when more fans are able to enjoy it without having to worry about going to work the next day. And can anyone say Nebraska or Ohio State?
Followed by the Holiday Bowl, where another P12 opponent waits in San Diego.
I'm breaking down the poll below by where you reside, understanding there will be a natural bias to keep the Horns in Texas close to player families and fans who plan on attending so they can drive to it. Just a curiosity thing to see how many of us who won't be able to attend have a preference that's different than the ones who will travel to it.
Each bowl is played during the same week from Wednesday to Friday, December 28-30. Here's the schedule:
- Wednesday, 12/28, 7pm, Holiday Bowl
- Thursday, 12/29, 8pm, Alamo Bowl
- Friday, 12/30, 9pm, Insight Bowl

id like to see us play Cal in the Holiday Bowl
we could finally shut them up im sick of them whining about the 2004 Rose Bowl
According to Wikipedia You Don't Exist!
'Mack Brown has no class'
Yeah, I can’t stand the Berkeley Bears
Alamo
If we are going to a non-BCS bowl we might as well keep it close.
Insight in Tempe
Alamo would be great, but the loser of OU/Okie Lite or KState have that locked down. We can’t be #3 in the conference at this point, so we aren’t getting Alamo.
The #4 team gets the Insight in Tempe for $3.35M. The higher ranked team goes there and so we need to beat Baylor so we can go and play Penn State.
If we lose to Baylor we will go to the Holiday Bowl which is in a great location – San Diego – but it pays $1M less. We would get to play Cal and that would be fun.
After no bowl last year I’m glad to see our team have some real fun at a bowl game and really get a bowl experience out of town and out of state.
It will be fun if Mizzou and A&M fight over their bowl….ha ha.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
Alamo #3 True, But...
That means Alamo gets the 3rd pick, not that they necessarily pick the 3rd best team in the conference. Most of the time the bowls give equal or greater weight to the financial draw of the teams they’ll invite when they’re making the selection as the order of finish might be. Though it’s rare to see a bowl pick a top name school that’s at the bottom of eligible conference teams over a #3 spot. If Texas beats Baylor and is the 4th best team, that’s close enough to #3 that money UT draw would probably prevail over KSU’s selection.
Yeah.
FWIW, Chip Brown reported yesterday that he believes we’d have a good shot to go to the Alamo bowl if we beat Baylor.
there are other folks saying the Alamo Bowl committee..
is letting it be know they are taking the Texas/Baylor winner.
That is true
It is #3 pick, not rank.
Alamo would be very cool so that more parents/families of the players can go watch.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
I said the Alamo Bowl
And I live in Maryland. Obviously the Pinstripe Bowl would be cool, as I’d take the train up to see it, but I’d rather Texas not fall to it.

Insight
playing Penn St in the insight bowl would be sweet i think. That game will get a lot of attention and not all of it good (ahem ahem penn st.)
mee too
its not the greatest bowl, but I could easily get tickets and wont have to pay for a hotel. That means I can spend that money on beer because Im sure they will be taxing

SECede?....Whoop(s)!!
lol
i was actually being serious. as a graduating senior, ive never seen them at a bowl game, playing in houston could make that a reality for me.
San Antonio isn't that far of a drive
As much easier as it would be for me as well if it were in Houston, I would much rather prefer the money the Alamo gives, than Meinecke.

That's the one that used to be the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl, right?
I always thought that was the catchiest name.

I don't care what bowl it is.
All I care about is we play a quality opponent, we win and the bowl practice helps bring the team further along in development.
My source close to the program can beat up your source close to the program!
Anything is OK
Prefer not to go to one with a silly name.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
My vote doesn't count, but
I’d like to see you in the Insight vs. the Nubs. An opportunity for Longhorn to put another beatdown on the Nubs is simply irresistable. And the tv ratings would be off the charts!
And your are practically guaranteed a win.
oh hail the Purple and White
I don't know. This seems like a trap.
I like having the superiority of 10-1 against those corn-eaters. They would, however, love to play the ’Horns.
They would talk the game
but they would be crappin their pants to actually play you. They can’t handle the pressure. I love it, seeing as how they have about a 70-20 record against us.
No way you should have beat them in their infamous “redout” last year. They choked. They would choke again.
Actually, if KSU does get hosed on bowl assignments this year, I’d like to meet the Nubs in the INsight bowl. I think this team could beat them this year.
oh hail the Purple and White
I agree.
KSU is steely-tough this year, regardless of the 0U game where, seemingly, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The CornRed, this year, have seemed to laid a few eggs when they should have won. I think that, as long as Klein is in the game, KSU would systematically and steadily destroy the Nubs from beginning to end in a bowl game.
I'm still surprised they went Red out rather than blackout
some of my NU friends wanted a blackout.
TEXAS FIGHT
Ummm... The BCS National Championship Game, DUH!
Remember, You asked “What bowl do you want to see Texas in?” Not, what bowl do you think Texas will go to? Yes I know you added the poll at the bottom, but I am having a little fun here.
I learned this about coaching: You don't have to explain victory and you can't explain defeat. Darrel Royal
WHO CARES!!!
Unless we’re in the MNC game or a BCS game who really cares what bowl we go to. We can all sit and watch OU win what, their eigth or ninth Big 12 title, to our 3 (2 under Brown) and guess about what second rate bowl were going to. Think about it, Stoops has 8 or 9 titles to Brown’s 2. That spells only one thing. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C!!. I’m sure all these Saban rumors are just that, rumors, but I would be doing cartwheels if it turned out to be true. Face it. Browns a good recruiter but not a great coach. Saban is both.
Last year was a travesty. This year is a rebuilding year.
You SHOULD care. We’re getting better, and will be better next year. Just need to get that QB thing settled (ahem).
Because we're Texas and we're evil. DUH.

Alamo
I’d love to see the team play once more this year, especially after bowl practices when the team is presumably fully healthy and McCoy and Ash are given a lot of reps in practice leading up to the game.
A Texas Bowl would be nice
But I dunno, a West Coast bowl might be nicer, given the weather that time of the year… It would make for an excellent road trip/vacation all in one.
Because we're Texas and we're evil. DUH.

Hate to break it to you.....
next season ain’t gonna be much better than this one unless a half way decent quarter magically appears before us. Face it, McCoy won the game but he still ain’t that good. So what do wechalk next yr up to? Oh yeah, another rebuiding yr. Maybe in 3-4 yrs we can maybe sniff another conf title. Sorry but mark this down. If we keep Brown we will NOT win another title. Its time to move on. I know everyone likes the fact that he’s such a nice guy and I’m sure he is but we need someone who is cutthroat. Someone who steps on ur throat and doesn’t let up. Criticize Stoops and Saban all u want but their record speaks for themselves. And none of this “but look how many 10 win seasons we’ve had with Mack” Please, with our pathetic OOC schedule winning 10 games is no big feat. Again I say only 2 conf titles in what, 13 seasons? Not acceptable.

Great Comments, Poll Participation
And I really do think the difference in support for the bowl game by Longhorns in Texas compared to the residents of other states is fascinating. There certainly is far less concern about keeping them in the state for the bowl by those of us who don’t live there now – even though the payout, homefield and recruiting concerns are legit. And I totally get why you’re much more likely to want it there if you live there.

Which rule
would make the last part make sense?
Okie Lite and OUSucks will likely be going to the Fiesta and Cotton Bowls, though an OU win could result in the conference receiving an At-Large invite to another BCS bowl, as would an OSU win – if they found themselves in the NC game.
Automatic qualifiers come from the AQ conferences. If a bowl with a contract for one of those AQ loses a team to the NC, they get first pick at the non-contracted, eligible teams. Traditionally, the Fiesta has like to take the Big 12 runner up. But, it’s not required to. It’s also not allowed to if the second team doesn’t qualify. All of the rules in place regarding two teams in the top 14 remain true with, or without, a team in the NC. With an OSU win, OU would have to avoid dropping from 10 to 15th or worse in the BCS standings to remain eligible. K St is 12 with only the game vs Iowa St remaining. If both drop out of the top 14, it makes things a bit stranger for selection.
Regardless, the idea that a NC spot opens up a door for a second BCS spot is one of those myths that keeps traveling around. It’s simply not true. The only impact that has on selection is where the conferences bowl gets to stand in line while choosing teams to fill the 10 spots.
It Certainly is More Complex
I know my statement was kinda general, a lot more facets to make 100% accurate. But the summary is that there’s basically two ways for the B12 to get two top-tier BCS bowl invites that would bump up the remaining teams. Not that the conference would get two. I didn’t believe the question I was asking would be enhanced with a verse by verse recitation of NCAA guidelines though, and wanted this thread to stay focused on the three most likely possibilities. Kept it short and imprecise for simplicity’s sake.

Alamo Bowl I would most definitely go
However, I like the idea of playing a B1G team better than playing a PAC team.
Either Alamo or Insight is good with me.
Cotton Bowl
CB to me is really the only decent second tier bowl. It says you’ve had a somewhat decent season but with the kstate loss that eliminates that option. Given that I suppose Alamo is second best. Not the HB please. We’ve played there way too much.
