Kevin Sumlin will be next aggy coach
After getting shot down by Georgia's Mark Richt, it looks like the ags are going with Kevin Sumlin to lead them in to their SEC nightmare. According to Fort Worth Star-telegram, Richt turned the ags down and Plan B was Sumlin... so here's the question... how's this going to go over the SEC? Is the spread going to work against the SEC style of defenses? Obviously (when you look at the SEC vs. Big 12 records) it hasn't seem to in the past, but is Sumlin the right man to make this happen... against Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas....
With a whooping 2 years Head Coaching experience and 2 years Coordinating experience, was this the best option for the ags? I personally wished they had thrown a ridiculous amount of money at Gary Patterson... It would have been awesome to get that bastard out of the Big 12 before her ever coached a game, but alas...

Good For Them - Bad For Us
Lack of experience aside, he is a much more dynamic figure than Sherman, and will recruit Texas very well. He will bring an exciting brand of offense to Aggie.
Change isn't good or bad it just "is". Don Draper of Madmen
Sumlin brings offensive competence, school connection, and local credibility
Nico, he actually has four years (2008-2011) of HC experience, as well as four as an OC an/or co-OC. He has had lots of success in many stops, including the great job he did coaching WRs under Joe Tiller in the Drew Brees years, the OU offense for quite a while, and now Houston. He’s an up-and-comer at worst, and even if he doesn’t keep on that trajectory, he’s still probably a better hire than anyone else who would’ve considered the aggie job.

AHH! You are correct sir.
TCU's about to learn what strength of schedule actually means.

I wish our agroid brethren all the best in their “hundred year” enactment of The Prodigal Son. The inevitable bowl clash will be an apocalyptic reckoning, I hope.

Aggie would need to be that high in SEC
And I doubt they will poke their head above #5 in conference anytime soon.
2013 ?
Oh yee of little faith! 2013 Longhorn will at least win the conference and be in the Fiesta.
Now, next year is KSU’s year to win the conference. Let’s see. That would be 2011, 2012, and 2013 that Sooner DOES NOT win the conference, and that would be a great thing.
oh hail the Purple and White
The 2013 Cotton Bowl will take place just over a year from now
The 2012 one happens in just a few weeks.

Does Aggy need a defensive minded HC?
I’ve heard quite a bit of rhetoric surrounding the idea that A&M needs a defensive minded HC, especially after this year and the way their defense broke down. I like Sumlin, but maybe he’s not the right guy to right that ship.

They'd probably just be okay if they were to find a defensive-minded DC
It’s been a while.

I, for one, am laughing hysterically at this hire

Why is that? He seems like a much better idea than a lot of others
Richt definitely played them, but I think Richt or Smart would’ve been lesser hires for aggie. Neither would’ve had any connection to Texas football culture, which is huge for program success, and can only be bigger due to all the distance aggie has put between itself and the rest of the state’s football.

First big time coaching gig and he's taking a 6-6 program into the SEC with expectations of greatness
Honestly, if Sumlin can pull this off and make A&M successful in the SEC, he’s got a seat waiting for him at one of the premier programs in the country.
It just seems like a tall order.
I feel like even if he can just make them competitive, like going 50-50 in conference play, it won’t be seen as “acceptable” and he’ll be out in 4 years.
With their likely OOC schedule, going 5-4 or 4-5 in conference...
…would probably mean eight wins per season. I don’t know why that wouldn’t be seen as acceptabl, considering they’re patting themselves on the back for supposedly being in the toughest conference in the nation.
