California Golden Blogs' Texas-Themed Posts For Your Review
As we ramp up our Texas coverage, I wanted to provide a place for you to check and see what new post(s) have come up at CGB about your beloved Longhorns. We do not provide this information for you to come over and flame us, but just so you can perhaps provide some insight into the team.
For example, here is a post on the Texas special teams.
Here is a post on the 1959 Cal-Texas game and the 1961 Cal-Texas game.
We'll have many further opportunities for reasoned (!) discussion and for you to provide further insight into Texas over at CGB. As they go live, I will edit them in here, so you will have one easy place to check for all your CGB Holiday Bowl discussion needs. Nobody knows your team the way you do and we appreciate all the info you can provide. Thanks for your awesomeness! GO BEARS!

Wait, a second. Who are the flamers in this relationship?
Have we been overtly hostile? I thought we were all having a good time. A real good time.

I’m not trying to point fingers here. I think both sides have had readers who did some not so nice things. And I think both sides have a lot of people who have comported themselves with class and dignity.
I’m just trying to focus everybody as much as possible. I say the same thingi n the post over there, too, HookTech. Trying to stay ahead of any flaming.

Oh, I'm not pointing any fingers, nor suggesting you were.
I was only half serious, if that. Did you see my Pitbull reference, No comment with a pitbull reference should be taken seriously.

Only if you want to understand what a real good time x50 feels like.
If I have any Texas guilt, it’s that Dr. Pepper is headquartered here and DP allowed that commercial to happen.

Coach Royal Years
Most of the games played between Texas and Cal. were Darrel Royal years. His coaching philosphy was there are three things the quarterback can do when he passes and two are bad. Therefore, he stayed on the ground. Think Tommy Nobis, who played from 1963 till 1965. He was an iron man who played offense (running back) and defense (linebacker).
"When you pass, three things can happen and two are bad", DKR, why he chose to run instead of pass.
Yes, in doing the research for that post (and the one set for tomorrow morning at 1030 on the next 2 games), I see that Texas didnt pass a lot. Interesting stuff.
Feel free to provide your perspective over on the posts at CGB, too!

I was at Texas from 1963-1964, 1966-1968.
Royal resisted recruiting passing quaterbacks until his assistant coach created the Wishbone. The wishbone used the passing game but not entirely. It was a good formation to pass or run, so it required the team to do some passing to make it effective. After that passing became more common, but the running game always paramount.

re: Nobis
On offense Nobis played guard.
And, he did play both ways.
