Mack is Not Retiring
Chip Brown stated on Twitter today, "OB has learned Mack Brown sent a letter to families of Texas players saying any reports of him planning to retire are "absolutely false!"
Hopefully, this will bury all of those rumors flying around about Mack retiring. In my opinion, this all seems like some ploy to interfere with Texas recruiting, especially since Texas is still in the run with many of the country's top recruits.
Mack Brown will eventually retire, but not now. When he does, I am pretty sure we won't be hearing about it from some radio dj in Topeka, KS. I'm sure we will know well in advance.

Whenever Chip Brown makes an unequivocal statement of fact
…it’s time to expect the exact opposite to happen.
And So The Mediocrity Not To Mention The Lack Of Big 12 Titles Will Continue

Would you please pass showmehornfan a valium? He always seems so sad.
If a man is alone in the woods and he speaks, if no one hears him,,is he still wrong?
Not At All Sad
Just able to take off my orange tinted glasses from time to time and see what is plainly obvious. Yes, Mack has done wonders for this program in terms of turning it into a huge money maker. What he’s failed to do is produce the hardware given how long he’s been here. Yes, he has the 1 NC, but that probably wouldn’t have happened had he not stopped coaching VY into something he wasn’t and finally decided to just lay off and let him just be VY. He almost blew the chance to play for the ‘09 NC in the Big 12 title game had that 1 second not been put back on the clock. He blew the ’01 title game against Colorado that would have sent us to the NC again. In ’06 all we needed to do was win 1 of our last 2 games against KSU and aggy to make it to the Big 12 title game and failed there as well. Let’s face it. OU has the hardware and we don’t. Given the top recruiting classes we bring in every yr this program has underperformed. Ask most college fans outside of UT’s and that is the answer you’ll get. When it comes to football it isn’t OU, TX and everyone else. Its becoming OU and everyone else. Let’s face it. OU is just a better coached program. I don’t dislike Brown personally. I just don’t think he’s a very good game day coach. Great recruiter but if you can’t develop all that talent once its on campus what’s the point. Sorry if I’m not a MB sunshine pumper like so many on this and other boards are. Oh well at least our womens volleyball team has a decent shot at a NC.

YES. Exactly.
Oh well at least our womens volleyball team has a decent shot at a NC.
I’m glad we agree.

Showmehornfan - I HOPE YOU ARE YOUNG!!!
Because if you are a mature adult who lived through the lean years on the 40 acres, I cannot believe you would EVER speak poorly of Mack.
“Let’s face it. OU has the hardware and we don’t.”
That would explain their multiple National Championships under Stoops and their high BCS bowl win percentage as compared to the Horns during Mack’s time.
You claim the ALMOST loss in the ‘09 title game is Mack’s fault – not Colt’s time management in the closing seconds of the game…On the other hand, the NC win has nothing to do with Mack…just awesome VY. Come On!
Why do you think these players come to TEXAS. Why, TO THIS DAY do they speak and demonstrate their undying devotion to this man…their COACH! Is he not the second most winning active coach today? I thought he was…Someone would want him to leave this program? There are literally a handful of coaches as successful as Mack. It takes that money you speak of….and Mack did not just bring in HUGE MONEY. He took the program from outside the top 25 moneymakers to the number 1 spot in the Nation….by far and away. We have enjoyed great success, BCS and Money and Media-wise, under Mack Brown. He wins…and he wins with class…without the scandals that pop in other big name programs across this nation. For what he has done for the reputation of TEXAS he can remain head coach until he can’t find the field anymore. IMHO.
Be proud of your wealth and prestige. Never give in to communism..."equal revenue" sharing is for sissy under-achievers. This is TEXAS, not the former Soviet Union! - Ray Walker
You mean Garrett Gilbert?
Colt played one series (5 plays to be exact) in the 09 Title game before hurting his shoulder. Even then though, time management at the end of the game was not the issue. Gibert fumbled and was intercepted twice in Texas’ final 3 possessions. That loss was neither Mack’s nor Colt’s fault.
Is it the Head Coaches responsibility to have his team prepared to play when they take the field?
If he fails in that responsibility 12 times in 2 seasons, should he be allowed to continue in his job?
Oh yeah, I forgot, this is a rebuilding year. Next year we will win at least 10 games and th enext year we will compete for a NC!
Wow….

Face It
OU has far outpaced Texas since Browns been here. Stoops has what, seven or eight Big 12 titles vs Browns 2? That’s not parity my friend. And yes they have but 1 NC but they’ve played in twice as many BCS games asUT has. And why is it that they always seem to be able to reload almost every yr while we go thru long stretches of having to ‘rebuild’ while always seemingly bringing in top recruiting classes. The difference is plain and simple: coaching. Yes we do beat OU but whenever we lose to them we don’t just lose, we get annihilated. And as far as Brown being one of the winningest coaches out there it aint hard to pat your stats with the likes of UTEP, LA-Monroe and Rice. He may ‘win with class’ but I have a feeling were looking at 2-3 more yrs of being out in the wilderness before things turn around, and that’s assuming we don’t have massive turnovers in the coaching staff, which you know aint gonna happen. How long before season ticket holders get fed up and we start seeing lots of empty seats in the stands? Saying Brown can stay as long as he wants is what got Fl State where it is now.

so what your saying is Mack's best isnt good enough?
well as has been said before he’s won more games than any coach whos been at Texas with one exception and that one exception is Darrell Royal. and he’s not too far behind him in the wins category and if he wins 25 more games he’ll pass the Legend himself
According to Wikipedia You Don't Exist!
At Mack's current pace of 6 wins per year average, he may not live long enough to pass DKR in wins...
Over the last 2 seasons of 5 wins and 7 wins this year = 6 win avg.
Thought I would do the math to show Mack’s 2 year (current) winning average.

85 wins between VY and Colt attribute to Mack's winning record.
Do you see us with a 30 win or 45 win qb in the near future?
Just a question to ponder.

who recruited Vince and Colt?
did they just magically appear in DKR in a uniform saying “ok im ready to go coach”?
In The Morning To You
The University has won in spite of Mack and Greg Davis, due to the incredible ability (75 wins) of VY and Colt...
How has Mack done since losing them the last 2 years?
Oh yeah, it’s a rebuilding 2 years. Next year we will win 10+ games and compete for a NC in 2013.
Mack’s political correctness and class has come at a very steep price without VY and/or Colt.
Bottom Line..It falls upon the HC to have a team prepared to win on Saturday. Period.

A better question is who recruited Case and Ash...and who is coaching them?
by Hook Em Horns on Dec 4, 2011 8:17 PM CST up reply actions
the way i understand it
the OC and DC (which would mean Greg Davis) evaluated players and then told Mack who they wanted he would then help recruit them. he left it to his Coordinators to pick who they wanted
In The Morning To You
I'll take this with a grain of salt
but I normally trust these guys. Something to worry about
The tl;dr of it is if Diaz goes, Mack will likely leave as well rather than going through a whole nother coaching search and all that nonsense. From there Petersen from Boise St would come to Texas to take Mack’s spot.
TEXAS FIGHT
Probably changing his mind after Baylor ass whooping!
