The Aggie Way of Handling Things: traveling the low road

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/ncaa/12/02/texas-am-sherman-firing.ap/index.html?sct=cf_t2_a9

Star-divide

As if a telephone call to let you know that you are terminated isn't bad enough, Mike Sherman was kicked to the curb while he was at star QB recruit Matt Davis' house on a recruiting visit. Sherman had to tell Davis and his mother what just happened on his telephone call. Talk about AWKWARD.

Even more troubling is that Aggie Admins had already leaked the termination to the public. So, why would aggies treat a man that everyone agrees is a classy guy with lots of integrity like shit? Well, its clearly the new aggie way.

Per the article, Aggies are now saying that Sherman didn't sign his contract extension and Sherman says he did. Really? Does this whole Aggies throwing out lies for money reasons sound vaguely familiar? And, why the hell would the aggies offer Sherman a contract extension a few months ago and now terminate him? Surely, the aggies wouldn't say one thing one day and change their mind the next.

Any potential recruit and any potential HC better take a good long look at this complete and utter mess.

Gameday just ripped the aggie handling of the firing, and they even showed Texans' coach Kubiak ripping them. Kubiak is an aggie.

Stay classy aggies. I'm just glad that everyone else can see how the bow tied one (and his puppeteers) are destroying that place.

At least aggies are going to the SEC so they can embarass the SEC and not the BIG XII. Good bye, good riddance.

No one deserves the treatment he got. Not even an Aggy.

Game Day was spot on with their assessment and blasting. Yeah,,he lead the cult but he was a class act and tried to lead by example. Sadly his example was not well received. $ Bill is next I’m guessing. Will they Tweet his termination to him? Send a singing telegram by the aggy glee club?

Ags tell me that Byrne and Sherman were both against $EC move

Toole’s funny comments that Loftin is a PUTZ and a hopelessly underqualified Puppet pretty much verifies that someone else is running the aggie ship into the iceberg. But, who is it?

I have never been so utterly and completely disgusted with aggies. What goes around comes around and they are screwed. They are disintegrating in full view and stupid aggies are cheering it on.

I have an uncle that is a tenured professor there. He told me long ago that the academics at the school, apparently there are a few, were livid about the potential move to the sec and had, on multiple occasions, stormed the admin offices in protest. Sad, sad situation.

Something very weird is going on there

Byrne and Sherman were against the move, but some delusional mystery person is pulling the bow ties’ strings.

They have put their school into the toilet. Deloss Dodds could not destroy them like this.

Trying to screw Sherman out of the early termination fee is so pathetic and sad. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Really pathetic.

I’m thinking some more bombshells will fall and they may cause a stir. If Byrne and Toole are next I hope that they don’t sign severance agreements with a confidentiality clauses so that they can reveal what the hell is going on inside that mess.

We're Texas, We're not OK.

I'm refusing to add 2+2 on this one because the answer scares me,,,

BUT,,,let’s look at it ,,they are on the verge of losing their Tier 1 status because they implemented a new way of reporting and accounting for finances. ( Any idea who instructed the board to implement the system?) Only one institution has ever lost their Tier 1 status up to this point. Aggy has received their letter that they will if certain things don’t change.
BowTie doesn’t have a flippin clue what is going on,,I think he was correctly labeled as a puppet.
$Bill tried ,,,Sherman tried,,,to no avail to turn the school the right direction.
Someone with MASSIVE connections and influence to the school is pulling multiple strings behind the scene. Who could that be?

I had heard some stuff about this

That the professors at A&M were very unhappy with Perry’s plans….but I didn’t realize it includes Texas. Losing AAU status would be terrible for aggies, and I can’t imagine Texas allowing it to happen. Man, that sounds terrible.

Aggies are probably trying to get $Bill to sign a severance agreement

Including a confidentiality provision that he won’t tell the truth about how the Aggies orchestrated their lies and decptions.

Ags and Mizzou are both nimwits with their pending moves. All they want is the Big XII to fail.

I'm absolutely loving his posts about who the farmers and mechanics should hire to coach them

So far Stoops, Patterson, Petersen, Leach, Tressel, Chizik, Muschamp among others are not good enough to coach them. Sumlin is?

XBox POV

Instant gratification.
His arguments are…“I don’t want Coach A because he didn’t beat Team A or B.”
Example 1. “Muschamp hasn’t done anything” He was named HCIW here and left to take over one of the most succedful programs in the last two decades. He didn’t win 12 games this year, so he obviously sucks and not good enough for the farmers.
Example 2. “Patterson is a non-starter.” My guess, there are 200 college football programs across every division that the AD would stab their mom in the uterus to have Patterson. But, not good enough for the mechanics because TCU lost to Baylor and SMU this year.

Aggies want it both ways

I live in the Port Authur area, and the spots ed of the local paper, wrote after the UT/A&M game that both Sherman and the AD should be fired for losing to Texas. Later in the article he blamed the loss of the offocial’s call on the last drive. OK, Ags, “Logic 101” says if the Aggies were cheated out of the victory by the official, then it is not Sherman’s fault. Furthermore, the Ags were way ahead at the half of several games they lost. Why not replace the strength and conditioning coach and give Sherman one more chance?

There are a several Aggies that I greatly respect,

and Sherman is one of them. Don’t know the guy personally, but he seems like a great guy and he definitely deserved better than this. Aggie leadership/culture is strange. Ok, that’s an understatement, but bear with me here. It just seems like A&M produces some great leaders like Sherman and Robert Gates, yet they let the yokels like Loftin and Perry run things and portray the Aggie public image.

Needless to say, their football program is a mess right now and it couldn’t come at a worse time.

I buried the one Aggie that I truly loved and respected this summer.

He was the most intelligent and honorable young man I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. Lost a wicked fight with cancer but never lost his sense of humor or his love of all things Aggie. We sang the Aggie War Hymn at the graveside and I was proud to do so. Aggies don’t believe they ever lose,,they just run out of time. This was so true in that situation. At any rate,,Jeff loved Sherman and thought he was the man that could turn the program around. It saddens me that he wasn’t given the opportunity to do so and that his exit was cheap and dirty and completely without honor. Possibly that is the new Spirit of Aggieland.

What is an Aggie?

Only two of the four people you mention above actually went to school there, so I’m not sure the university had anything to do with “producing” them or their leadership abilities. Gates and Sherman were chosen to lead there due to abilities they acquired elsewhere. It’s not ironic to me, that the two you respect are the ones who never attended A&M, yet Perry and Loftin, who appear to be working feverishly to destroy the institution at its core, did. It takes a real aggy to truly be aggy.

I think they pretty insured that they have no chance of hiring a top notch HC. Anyone out there who is HC material and sane will tell the Aggies thanks but no thanks while waiting for an offer from another school.

Sherman got screwed.

But they may have done him a favor. His players love him and everybody that speaks of him holds Sherman in very high regard. He will land on his feet, which is something that that isn’t likely to happen to the football program in College Station. If Perry is pulling the strings…Lord help them. The last thing I want is someone with a 2.2 GPA making decisions for my institution.

Looks like the NC got Fedora

Which I guess means Sumlin to aggy.

Fedora would have been a much better hire for Ags than Sumlin IMO. Everyone says Sumlin is a great guy and super nice, but let’s face it. Being nice is not going to win game in the $EC.

Here’s Fedora’s info: “Fedora graduated from Texas A&M Consolidated and has been an assistant coach at Baylor and Oklahoma State. He has SEC experience as well, as offensive coordinator at Florida under Ron Zook. Fedora went 33-19 in four years at Southern Mississippi. The school has qualified for a bowl game every year he’s been in charge. Read more: ”http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2011-12-06/report-larry-fedora-offered-north-carolina-job#ixzz1fozOIjzw" target="_blank">http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2011-12-06/report-larry-fedora-offered-north-carolina-job#ixzz1fozOIjzw"

So, aggies pass on a former OC from Florida who has been recruiting in the SEC territory at So. Miss. while still having ties to the state of Texas. So who wants to play bets that Fedora at NC outperforms Sumlin at A&M?

We're Texas, We're not OK.

I actually haven't heard any Aggie defend it

And, most are very upset about their AAU status being in jeopardy per the Texas Monthly article you linked previously. It seems that the consesus over there is that Byrne has done a great job in all sports and that he doesn’t control football. Loftin seems to be calling the shots for football, but he is really the puppet of a group of boosters, who are really running the show.

If this group of mystery boosters are calling the shots and made the decision to move to the $EC over Byrne’s and Sherman’s objections, normally you would think both would have been gone for that reason alone. I’m not sure why Byrne is still hanging around but he is doing a great job in other sports.

This mystery group of rogue boosters—if they are so powerful, why aren’t they putting their money where there mouths and noses are and pay the exit fees and termination fees owed instead of making their school look like a broke ass group of farmers?

We're Texas, We're not OK.

Listened to Bomani Jones, a sportswriter in North Carolina

who used to live in Texas and is apparently a big Horns fan, say that he believed A&M is one of the worst jobs in the country much in the same way NC St. is for basketball because of who else is around and how hard it is to realistically compete with Texas, OU, and LSU.
