Texas vs Baylor Bears: 2nd Half Open Thread

Blaine_irby_medium

Well, Team Case had it going until the late interception. And what a catch by Blaine Irby on a too high ball by McCoy. Oh my.

Either the Texas passing game is not very good, or the Baylor defense is atrocious. Any way you slice it Texas is making a game of it and doing as good a job as anyone shutting down the Baylor offensive juggernaut outside of the first 2 gashing TD drives.

Texas leads TOP over 2-to-1, 340 to 230 offensive yards, and is 8/11 on 3rd down conversions. We had to battle back against spotting them 14 points and some questionable officiating early.

It's a 4 quarter ball game. Buckle your seat belts.

Hook 'em Horns!

TEXAS FIGHT!

McCoy is not the future. Sorry. It’s true. It hurts me to say it. Ash has more physical abilities but he hasn’t demonstrated that he has the decision-making skills necessary to complement all of the other talent. I think Texas is one good QB away from being spectacular.

Is Brewer the absolute best we can do?
Is there not a Juco QB out there? Who’s at Blinn right now?

We need some serious and I mean serious focus on elevating this position immediately. All efforts must be dedicated to getting a QB if we don’t have utter confidence in Brewer.

Big 12 is the deepest conference in the country this season.

by TheElusiveShadow on Dec 3, 2011 5:44 PM CST up reply actions

Depends how you look at it

The Big 12 is used to seeing passing offenses and their strengths on defense are typically in that direction, minus a few like A&M. For example, OSU has a pretty good secondary but a so-so front seven.

Also, because of how horrible the Baylor defense is, Griffin has tremendous pressure to put up tons of points and not turn the ball over, and he’s done that all year for them.

Can't blame Mack at all if he does indeed decide to retire

The program is in a horrible spot at the most important position of the football team – QB. Going to take a few years to recover from the GG debacle.

by goingforthecorner on Dec 3, 2011 5:50 PM CST reply actions

Please quit piling on Case

Putting him in at QB is the same as putting Walters in at QB. He can’t help not being able to play the position.
You expect too much of him.

Well

I celebrate our basketball win and our upcoming season.
I celebrate our improvement over last year in football (even if we aren’t there yet)
I celebrate our Lady Gazelle’s number one seed in the NCAA tournament
I am still celebrating the victory over aANDm
I will be rooting for Griffin to win the Heisman
I will be looking forward to seeing our Bowl game and hopefully a healthy return to our running backs

I miss Gilbert.

If Texas is going to have a crappy QB, they may as well have one with some potential.

And I still wouldn't be surprised if he retired.

And I wouldn’t blame him either. The past two years have been a nightmare. Everything has gone wrong around him. It has to take a toll on him.

by HornPossessed on Dec 3, 2011 5:56 PM CST up reply actions

Case suffered once more from the same problems that Ash had.

As the game goes on, he gets worse because he can’t handle the load. Oh well. Still proud of the comeback in the first half at least with no playmakers (hobbled Shipley counts as a playmaker still I suppose, but whatever).

by HornPossessed on Dec 3, 2011 5:53 PM CST reply actions

Baylor matched up well against us

We don’t have an offense that can punish their terrible defense, especially without our best runners, and RG3 presents a unique challenge to us because of his mobility. We aren’t as good in zone and he frustrates our pressure. It’s just a different animal than facing even good quarterbacks like Weeden.

by TheElusiveShadow on Dec 3, 2011 5:54 PM CST reply actions

Srsly though.

That defense was some kind of terribad. They made our offense look like the #1 offense in the country in the first half.

they’ll be 2nd or 3rd pick for QB

thankfully Gannaway and Wright are seniors

I think that would motivate RGIII to go as well even though Baylor also has two solid junior WRs

Art Briles post game comment

To clarify my statement:

I hate Briles but what he said is true. When you have seniors instead of freshman, and you play each other, seniors are gonna win (for the most part).

by HornPossessed on Dec 3, 2011 6:01 PM CST up reply actions

I heard that thought it was a dumb comment

unless you have Weeden on your team then their all boys.

by Wongworns on Dec 3, 2011 6:00 PM CST up reply actions

RG, III

Once again I say that had we made the offer at quarterback we would have won the game against AL and he would win the Heisman at UT this season. We nearly had the number of interceptions in this game that RG had all year. Unless there is a major change at quarterback we will still have problems next year even with Gray and the 2murders B’s.

by eirehorn on Dec 3, 2011 6:00 PM CST via mobile reply actions

If we can keep our RBs healthy

then our QB whoever it is won’t have to win games.

by Wongworns on Dec 3, 2011 6:01 PM CST up reply actions

I uinderstand what Briles mean't

Half the kids we had on the field were at their HS prom a year or two ago.

Case threw for over 350 yds but made at least four bad passing decisions

completion percentage not bad and over 9 yds per completion.
The honest to god truth is that at least 22 Longhorns played poorly today. I didn’t see a good g
game from anybody. Even the kicker missed a shorty

Cant wait for the spring game

Its the only Texas game that they CANT lose and Im sure the QB battle will be a little better. O line still needs to work on pass protection. B&B need to either stay healthy or suck it up and play. WRs need to work on catching and helping the QB when a play breaks down. Im not too worried about the D because they at least progressed as the season went on. Next year could possibly be a 10 win season, depending on who stays at other schools

Baylor thinks they are such big shots

Have 2 good years does that to you. We’ll bring them back to reality next year. F THEM!

I hope so but I think we are at least two years away from a quality QB.

i'd like to think so, but

where our young team showed progress through the year, the QBs didn’t. They look like they have trouble with some of the basics even, not just adapting to a new offensive scheme. But for now I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and see how things stand after spring. Also the WRs, except for Shipley, are erratic and need to practice catching a ball.

by SpookHorn on Dec 3, 2011 6:08 PM CST up reply actions
