This is just an outside shot, but is anyone still worried Muschamp might try to "poach" major?

I think Major might very well leave to be OC at FL.
You know that with Mack, Major will always be #2.

Why do you say that?

Applewhite and Simms took turns a lot
And does anyone really think Major should’ve been OC?

Kansas likes those 300lb coaches that can barely walk the sidelines. nt
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize
Mangino was every bit of 450 lbs.
work around the state of Kansas was that the team carried a defibrilator on any team sponsored travel.
The weight issue was a big factor in folks giving up on Mangino. The guy was a hell of a coach, and one of the best evaluators of unsung prospects in the coaching game.
oh hail the Purple and White
Defibs have been mandatory for a while now, I believe
I really thought people made too much of the weight. If he were the size of Bobby Knight, he might still be a head coach. I won’t pretend that I’m not bothered in some ways by certain fat people, but the fact is that employers should want people who are great at their job should. Mangino was the best KU had had in a really long time, and they fired him over what should’ve been a wrist-slappable offense.

While his record there was fairly commendable and, downright, amazing ...
… he developed a track record of being verbally abusive. Yeah, many CFB coaches are yellers, screamers, and drill sargeant-types (i.e. Pellini, Stoops, Saban) but Mangino took to a further level of disrespect to kids. He was getting to the point where recruits heard about it and had no interest in signing on for that crap.
There was a story about it, but it's anyone's guess what's true and what isn't

How is his weight relevant?

It related more than you are acknowledging ...
… and less than some make it out to be. When you are in a physical / athletic profession, it helps to be somewhat fit. The weight and his acquired history of more-than-normal levels of verbal abuse eventually both, IMO, became negative factors in recruiting and program image.
It can help, but Mack Brown's fat, and so are lots of other highly successful coaches

I've noticed here lately that ...
… and I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this … and it might be a stretch … but I’m getting just the most slight & distant hint of a vibe that … you like to argue. I know, I know. I may be wrong. Just a theory.
Ha! Just teasin’ w/ ya, bruthah. You’re always very entertaining, insightful, and consistent.
I never thought
Any school could out-Aggie a+m, but Kansas did it.*
Previous coach – heaviest coach in the world – successful.
Most recent coach – in good shape – not successful.
Who to hire as next coach? Second heaviest coach in the world. Guaranteed success! (Pay no attention to actual record.)
*Note – subject to review based on whatever dumbshit hire the aggies make.

Can’t find the video of the press conference, but “When he was hired by Notre Dame in 2004, Weis was famously quoted as saying that his teams would have "a decided schematic advantage”
Well he had all the talent that ND can recruit and failed.
At Kansas? They will remain Kansas even with Weis throwing his weight behind the team.

Last fat guy at Kansas did pretty well...maybe they've a fettish for good old big'ns!

Also, ESPN is reporting that the former ND QB Crist may follow the fat man to Kansas

Are you kidding me???
That was my reaction to this hire. They should have hire Mike Leach, even if it was just temporary, it would have been fun seeing them play the Red Raiders….
I think Leach would've been a great hire, but remember why KU and TT fired Mangino and Leach

Yes
Tech terminated Leach with the excuse that he was abusive, just as KU did Mangino. The last thing either school would’ve done would’ve been to hire another coach who had been fired for that reason.

Sorry, forgot to use the sarcasm font.
I was just comedically restating the obvious.
Am I the only one who facepalmed at this news?
After a failed attempt at Notre Dame with some of the best recruits the nation produces followed by a meh to terrible offense this year at Florida, KU now decides to pick him up. It’s like they’re purposely trying to lose
