DeSoto DE Michael Richardson to Texas A&M
With the verbal pledge of DeSoto defensive end Michael Richardson to Texas A&M, the Aggies now have seven commits in the 2012 class, including pledges from the two Brenham stars, Troy Green and Adrian Bellard.
Though Richardson is a bit undersized at 6-2, he's a perfect fit in defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter's 3-4 scheme as an OLB because his athleticism and ability to play in space. Richardson was a potential Texas target and was scheduled to attend the second Junior Day on February 26th.
The commitment from the DeSoto star continues a recent surge of recruiting momentum for Texas A&M that now includes the news broken today by Hookem.com ($) that Skyline linebacker Peter Jinkens may be a heavy Aggie lean and could commit before visiting Texas for the second Junior Day. Factor in A&M likely leading for Brenham LB Tim Cole and certainly leading for Brenham DT Malcolm Brown and, defensively at least, the Aggies are going to make it tough for Texas to land their top targets on the defensive side of the ball this year.
DeRuyter's presence is a major factor in the resurgence, as he's one of the up-and-coming defensive minds in college football and the credibility provided by LB coach Dat Nguyen, the former Dallas Cowboys star, doesn't hurt.

Here’s to DeRuyter taking the next available HC job and throwing Aggy into turmoil.

I was thinking about sending them to the $EC
but your idea is easier and far more likely to actually happen.
So not worried about getting talent. We will have some excitement when we start winning in the fall.
GOBR what's the DE plan?
What the hell is the plan at DE? It better not be Edwards or bust. Ridgeway would a good add, but he wouldn’t blow up anybody’s skirt.
The 247 Aggy site also has Eric Davis as an Aggy lean. If you’re keeping score at home, Aggy has commits from 2 of the 5 DEs listed on the Fab 55. With an Aggy lean from Eric Davis who just missed the Fab 55. DE is a painfully thin position on the Texas roster.
I pray that Texas is all over Arlington Martin DE Devonte Fields. Fields better be at JD2 or OOS DEs better start popping up on the radar very soon.
I hope the plan is Fields, Ridgeway, offer a late bloomer or OOS DE and keep a ship open for Edwards until Signing Day 2012.

Two new names on the radar
Manvel defensive ends Glynn Cheeks and Taiwan Johnson. Per Hookem.com ($). Will try to update the DE Big Board today with their information.

Plus one or two of the LB's may spin down to buck.
Whaley at DE. Hmmm. I hope it works out for him, he hasn’t quite found his place here yet.

Stil a RB on MB-TF
Don’t think Mack ever mentioned the move in either of his press conferences.

Yea hadn't heard anything on this front
Even if it is true, just because he is listed as a DE doesn’t make him a good one. Melton turned out alright, but has there been any evidence that Whaley would be decent or be able to contribute from the DE spot?

Gotcha thx for the link
I noticed while looking over the rest of the list that it has Sheroid Evans as a CB and Leroy Scott as a S.
I had thought it was the other way around? With Scott being the 5-10 or so CB prospect while Evans was the burner who projected at safety. Could be wrong though

At the NSD presser
Mack said that Evans was going to be a cornerback and Scott would play safety, the latter of which was certainly a surprise.

Perroni says on OB
that Richardson is waiting until Friday to confirm his commitment with Mike Sherman. Didn’t see that until just now.

Really
6’2 and 230 lbs would have been a LB anyway.
We have got to get back to the bigger D-line IMO. Tim Crowder, Brian Orakpo size guys on the ends
if he is 230 now
he could be 260 as a redshirt sophomore. plenty of size for a 4-3 DE. I think he is a better fit as a 3-4 LB though as I don’t think he is 230 now. I like his video better than Ridegeway’s. Will be interesting to see how it all works out.
Agree that Richardson is an OLB
which is why I don’t think he was going to get an offer from Texas. If the Longhorns ran a 3-4 (which they might actually transition to a bit more), Richardson would be Texas good, but I think he’s a better fit at A&M. Not sure if he’s better than Ridgeway, as it’s hard to get a read on the Mansfield DE from his limited film. I would say that Richadson is probably quicker, which, again, isn’t the deciding factor in terms of his recruitment by Texas.

if the kid is 6'2, 230 lbs and has legit speed
and you can’t use him on your defense, there is something wrong with your scheme
how big was Kindle when he came to texas? Y’all thought he was something special.
It's not that we couldn't use him
but we have a ton of OLB’s. Attention is in other areas.

Kindle was
listed as 6’4 and 230 with a 4.5 forty and he was an OLB for the majority of his career at Texas. Was listed as an ILB by Rivals.com coming out of high school.
Keep you six-foot nuthin DE’s at the Dixie Chicken
If Texas probably wasn't going to offer.
Then why is it front page news that A&M got a recruit we didn’t even want?

Why did you have to tempt him?

Fields
This is the guy that I would focus on….
However, I would go “all in” for Edwards and fight tooth and nail with FSU for his services. IMO walking away from Nathan Hughes was completely horrible. (I think I’ve said that before though)
Devonte Fields should be our 2nd target at DE in this class.
Love It
The fact of the matter is that player development is so much more important than recruiting. How else do you explain that both TCU and Boise would have beat us by 30 last year? Get rid of the mentality that “we select, we don’t recruit”, invest in the players that are here and lets get this ship righted.
Note to Bill Byrne "Because you aren´t Texas and you´ll never be Texas"
Care to support that?

well..
I guess I shouldn;t say he’s an Aggie lean but I heard on OB that he wasn;t even going to A&M’s junior day..I should’ve posted that..sorry
At the end of the day...
It’s still Aggy. They’ll benefit from being a Texas school and get quality commitments just like Baylor, TT, TCU, etc, but they’ve really reached their full potential as a mid to upper range program, and I just can’t see them becoming any more systematically successful at this point. A lot of momentum and good things have been happening for them lately, not really anywhere to go but sideways / down. They have a great thing going right now, better enjoy it while it lasts… Doesn’t always last forever, just ask Mack.
I can’t believe we’ve lost three of the last five… Deeply facepalm-able.
It is disturbing..nt
