Of all the first Junior Day attendees, Mansfield DE Hassan Ridgeway was widely considered one of the most likely to commit to Texas if offered. Ridgeway got his offer, but wasn't ready to commit on the spot. Following the event, Mansfield head coach John Hulme said that he didn't see Ridgeway's recruitment stretching too far into February.
And it didn't. According to Hulme ($) on Wednesday morning, Ridgeway committed to the Longhorns over offers from Texas A&M and TCU. The talented defensive end is 6-5, 235 according to his coach and also played some tight end for Mansfield, but will play defense for the Longhorns.
As mentioned over at Recruitocosm, Ridgeway isn't a jaw-dropping athlete, but he does play a position of major need and his commitment always the coaches flexibility to continue their evaluations and possibly unearth some unnoticed talent in or out of the state.
Ridgeway joins Connor Brewer, Alex De La Torre, Alex Norman, Orlando Thomas, and Curtis Riser as 2012 pledges for the Longhorns. And while it looked like the Longhorns lacked some recruiting momentum on Sunday afternoon with no pledges on the actual Junior Day, with the three commitments since then, things are starting to look a little bit more rosy for the Longhorns.
