2/23: Reports from Recruitocosm and Hookem.com have Jones as a strong Texas lean, also believe he could commit soon. Publicly, Jones has said he could take more visits this spring and is taking things "day-to-day." 2/8: One of the top players at his position in the country. Fluid athlete with exceptional hands, leaping ability, size (6-3). Not a burner. Scouting report. One-handed catches. Miami has fallen off after firing of Randy Shannon, but Auburn coming on strong, school at which cousin Emory Blake plays. Currently no timetable for decision. |
| Dorial Green-Beckham | Springfield Hillcrest (MO) |

2/23: Probably one of the top players in the entire country. Track and basketball star who goes 6-6, 220. Outstanding leaping ability, hands, and pure speed. Video. Recruited by Darrell Wyatt while at Kansas. Will narrow list to 5-6 schools before senior season. Named Rivals Junior of the Year. Offers from everyone in the country. |
| Thomas Johnson |
Dallas Skyline |
Feb. 13 |
Yes |
Committed to Texas (2/21/11) |
|
2/23: Johnson became the 7th 2012 commit on Monday. 2/8: Missed much of junior season due to ankle injury. Explosive athlete/home-run threat still adjusting to receiver position. Some concerns about his hands. National recruit with tons of offers. |
| Dominique Wheeler |
Crockett |
Feb. 13 |
Yes | N/A |

2/23: Wheeler received word on Tuesday from the Texas coaching staff that they would no longer be recruiting him. Serious drama at the Texas A&M Junior Day over the weekend. TCU looks like leader by a wide margin. 2/8: Recent addition to the radar. Better size than Johnson at 6-2, not as quick. Has vision, speed, balance. Long strider with some shake in his hips, great feet. Successful high school long jumper, triple jumper, and 110 m hurdler. Video. |
Moving forward -- Major news on this Board since the last update. Where to even begin? How about with the offer to Green-Beckham, a kid who has drawn comparisons to everyone from Calvin Johnson to AJ Green to Julio Jones. Flat-out stud. The Longhorns are a longshot with him and, as always, getting him to campus will be the first step.
Other big news? The commitment from Johnson, for one. The news that Cayleb Jones could quickly make a decision, for another, with the Longhorns being his likely destination if he does decide to make a decision soon. And dropping Dominique Wheeler from consideration is the other news. The coaching staff reportedly did not contact Wheeler after his offer at JD1, a relatively common tactic by the Longhorns when multiple players at a position receive an offer but the coaching staff prefers one over the other. In this case, Johnson was the preference.
If the coaches believe that Cayleb Jones will indeed give his verbal pledge to Texas in the near future, his decision could also have influenced the decision to move on from Wheeler. Originally, the guess was two wide receivers in the class, but it looks like the Longhorns would make room for a transcendent talent like DGB even if Jones becomes the second 2012 receiver to commit.

Serious drama at the Texas A&M Junior Day over the weekend.
Ghost, is this the reason we are no longer recruiting Wheeler?
I'm not sure
but I think I remember the only implication of the drama was that Wheeler canceled A&M off his list because of lack of individual attention at the junior day.
What I read on Rivals is that Wheeler had a really good JD #1. He really enjoyed the entire visit and was able to talk to several coaches. He then attends the “elite” JD and the amount of attention he received was lacking compared to the first JD. This left him with a bad impression, and rightfully so IMO. A second visit should always be better than the first if the coaching staff is serious about landing a prized recruit. He wound up leaving CS early.
The A&M staff at Rivals is saying that there’s no chance that Wheeler signs with A&M at this point, that the fence cannot be mended, and that the coaching staff has moved on. Further, the Rivals staff say this isn’t a character issue with the kid; he has reason to feel slighted. I doubt that Texas deciding to pass on Wheeler has anything to do with what happened at A&M, though you never know of course.
You might be thinking about Kendall Sanders
who was complaining about that.

No idea.
Haven’t been able to get specifics of what happened and I think that it was more about numbers with the commitment of Johnson and possible commitment of Jones.

Knock on Wood...
if Jones goes elsewhere is there another possible iron in the fire that we are slow playing, or do we just mass offer the 10 best available receivers in the country and hope one bites, Bama/USC style?
Kendall Sanders could get an offer as an ATH this weekend.
There won’t be any mass offering.

Why wouldn't the coaches wait?
until C. Jones committed before scrapping Wheeler?
Agree
and causes me to think there is another reason. I guess though it could simply be a numbers situation and the staff doesn’t really want to take more than 2 + DGB. If that’s the case the sins of past bad evaluations are really showing.

Speculation
but if they like Jones better and think they have a very good shot with him, you have to pull the Wheeler offer if you don’t need both.
The tammies
are pulling in recruits like crazy right now. However, I’ll take quality over quantity anytime.
Wheeler and his family showed up late
and his family became upset when they had to wait and see Sherman. Wheeler then vented his families frustration on his fb

DGB just found out that his younger brother
Had been diagnosed with Leukemia. Needless to say he and his family are devastated and all recruiting has been put on hold. Thoughts and prayers are most definitely with DGB, his brother, his family, and friends. Horrible news for such a young man.
