There is now just a single week left in the regular season for the major conferences, and the calendar will turn to my favorite month of the year tomorrow. Selection Sunday, March 13th, is less than two weeks away!
As a reminder, the top teams are gunning for protected seeds in the these four regionals: Newark, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Anaheim.
The second and third round (the NCAA is now considering the play-in games round one) will be in Washington DC, Charlotte, Cleveland, Chicago, Tampa, Tulsa, Denver, and Tuscon.
Here are my ‘educated’ guesses at the top 16 teams in the NCAA tournament. These are listed (1) as if the season ended today and (2) by strength within each seed.
No. 1 Seeds: Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Kansas, BYU
No. 2 Seeds: Duke, Purdue, Texas, Notre Dame
No. 3 Seeds: San Diego State, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Louisville
No. 4 Seeds: Syracuse, Georgetown, Connecticut, Florida
Next Four: St. John’s, Arizona, Kentucky, Texas A&M
Big 12 Bids (6)
Lock: Texas, Kansas, Texas A&M
Highly Likely: Missouri, Kansas State
On the Bubble: Baylor, Colorado
Bubble Burst: Nebraska
