What's your favorite bar to watch UT sports at?

What's up party people?

Need another favor and no, it's not bail money to get me out of jail for Criminal Jackass. Though, don't close that PayPal account just yet, I'm going to wear saggy pants to the mall later to get tapped into Dez Bryant's posse and my only clean pair of underwear left this morning was the eatable kind. Hope Dez likes cherry.

Anyway, here's the deal, PB's cronies at SBN got it in their heads that Longhorns fans like to go to bars, drink and watch sports. I know, crazy talk, right? So they want to know where you guys go to watch UT games regardless of the city, town, parish, backwater, or hollow you're from.

For example, where in Libya do Longhorns fans gather on Saturdays in the fall?

You're welcome to let us know in the comments below, but do SBN a favor and go to this link as well. Don't worry, the question about whether you drink beer with fruit in it is optional.

Thanks in advance and don't forget to tip your cow, I'll be hear all week.

I know it isn't the most popular out there for whatever reason

or it just doesn’t have a very vocal fanbase.. but I could do Posse East every damn day & twice on sundays. (Of course it doesn’t hurt that it’s walking distance for me…)

As far as others go, I didn’t hate 3rd base, I have always liked dog & duck, have heard some good stuff about cover 3.

I wish I could play little league now... I'd kick some fuckin' ass.

Posse is great. Went there all the time. Crown and anchor next door is also a good place to hang out.

Anyone know of any good places in Houston? I can’t hear myself think in most of the bars down town. I went to taphouse for the game against Alabama. Even if we’d won I sill wouldn’t have enjoyed the place. I’ve been a couple other times than the NC and it wasn’t much better. Just too loud (and no, I’m not old or even over 30).

Specifically, does anyone know any good spots in pearland? Boondoggles was (is) great in seabrook

The Tavern

Never really appealed to me. I tried to watch sports there before, but it always came off feeling like a restaurant that tossed a few TVs in for fair measure instead of a true sports bar.

Im a pretty big fan of crown.

Super cheep food that tastes acceptable.
Cheepish beer.

Plus its super close to campus and I can head there right after I get out of engineering classes.
Less experience with posse but from what i hear the food isnt as good.

I lived

On 30th immediately behind The Posse and Crown when I was in school there. Both amazing places to grab a burger, beer, and catch the game. I miss them dearly. Oh, and Posse Nachos, ftw.

Posse's queso is my favorite

of any queso anywhere. Then again, I’m partial because I worked there and made the queso (always add the beef, BTW). Turkey Sherriff, leave the turkey in the broiler util it’s almost turkey jerkey. I always enojoyed cranking Texas Fight on the PA after scores.

Streets lined with burnt orange on either side to let sad aggy walk through on the street since they don’t know how to use grass and sidewalks. Universal chant of Pooooor aggy. Pooooooor aggy. One of my happiest memories.

Durham

The best bar I’ve ever been to is Tobacco Road in Durham, NC. I spent last Friday there, and my wife even drove me home. I had to run 10 miles in the morning to retrieve my car, but that’s a different story.

It is on the “blue monster” (the left field wall) of the Durham Bulls downtown ballpark, but it isn’t actually in the ballpark per se. You can watch games for free from the outdoor porch. Which also has outdoor bars. And TVs everywhere. And heaters on colder days.

Inside is three tiers of TVs to watch the main wall of screens (about 20 of them). The bottom tier is recliners, the second is booths, and the top is more traditional restaurant seating.

If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss it. Try to go when a Duke or Carolina game is not on, or try to go when you know that team will lose. Nothing like schadenfreud on the local fans.

The Brownstone. Official Texas Exes bar. Great game watching experience, they import Shiner, pipe in the Eyes of Texas, and play country music during commercials.

Boomerjacks in Montgomery Plaza… although most times I prefer to commute to the nearest Pluckers in Arlington or Grapevine. Perk of Boomerjacks is it’s in the same center as the Co-op

Boomerjacks...

That was my spot when I lived in FW over the last couple years. Stick with it and never ever go to Buffalo wild wings in FW. I saw exactly 2 games there, the infamous Tech game 3 seasons ago and the MNC game 2 yrs ago. I will never watch another UT game at BWW again.

My friends and I watched the Tech game at BoomerJack's a couple years ago

And we almost got into a fight with some dude who claimed he coached Taylor Potts in high school. He didn’t like my “BOOM MOTHERF*****!” after Sergio almost knocked Potts’ head off his body. His wife was the true shit talker though and he and his daughter didn’t take kindly to us telling her she looked like Kurt Warner’s wife with her sweet haircut, haha.

The difference between fast food burgers

Is like refining the difference between “American Lagers” Sure there is some, but when it comes down to it, its all pretty crappy.

Backyard Burgers is the closest Ive found to a real burger, but really, Id rather stop at a real burger joint (Jakes, JG’s, Burger Island, Flaming Burger) for a burger then go fast food. Its worth the extra 5 minutes and $2.

San Antonio??

I tend to make some food and watch games on my 60", but lately I’ve been wanting to go somewhere where I can find people with whom I can laugh, cry, celebrate, or lament. It’s not hard to find a place with lots of T-shirt fans (don’t get me wrong…any friend of UT is a friend of mine), but I would also like to know where I can find people who don’t say, “Who?? Which number is he?” when I mention players’ names. So if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

That's why I stick with scotch, beer, or wine. If they skimp you on the scotch, you just look at the bartender like, "C'mon... C'mon"

Margarita’s are safe, too. You’re much less likely to be served a weak margarita in San Antonio than a weak martini. In San Antonio, it’s hard to find a good sports bar that isn’t packed with chavs. That’s one of the reasons I like Stonewerks. There’s a new place on Heuber at Bitters that is pretty cool. It’s called Stone Street Pub.

Just kidding. I’m tired of going to your Mom’s place.

OK ,seriously, I hate going to bars to watch important games because there are too many distractions. Of the noise, viewing angle, and boobage sort. Important games I have to watch at home in isolation or with pre-approved, equally obsessed fans.

But for any other events I’m not too particular as long as the beer is cold.

Posse > Crown and Anchor

At least for game watching. Lived between the two during grad school. Crown has much better food and beer, but not as many TVs, and their benches are really uncomfortable if your staying for hours watching games.

In Houston, the Texadelphia on Westheimer is a great place for big games like TX-OU because they open up a large outdoor seating area and roll in some extra TVs. I remember standing on the benches there and hugging tons of random people during the USC-TX national championship game

NYC

There are a surprising number of places to watch games in the company of other burnt orange fans:

Stout Bar -
Decent food but you’re really there to watch the big screens/projectors with a great crowd. Leading up the the game they show the different live games on the 50+ TVs/screens but come gametime they switch all but the smallest ones to the Texas game and turn up the volume. If they are paying attention they even turn the volume down during commercials. Best part is after every score they blare the fight song. During big games this place is elbow to elbow but you can get there early, grab a table and watch the ends of the lead in games while eating. You can’t miss the place as they have a couple UT flags on the front of the building during the season.

RUB BBQ –
If you don’t want a crazy crowd, this place has great food (including a legit Frito Pie). Its a small-ish place but has enough TVs and great drinks.

Hill Country BBQ -
I’ve never seen a game here but I’ve hear they show a lot of Texas sporting events (UT, Cowboys, Texans, Aggies). I mention it because it has the best BBQ I’ve ever had outside of Texas. Food is served like a true BBQ joint (although the line for the pit can get pretty long) and they even have Bluebell.

There are so many Texans in NYC that almost any bar is going to have a contingent but I haven’t topped these three in terms of atmosphere and food.

NYC Official Gamewatch Bars

For the 2010-2011 football season, our official NYC Texas Exes gamewatch locations were:
1) Stout – http://www.stoutnyc.com/
2) Hill Country – http://www.hillcountryny.com/
3) Village Pourhouse on W 46th Street – http://ph46.villagepourhouse.com/

We watched our basketball games at Still ( http://www.stillnyc.com/ ) this year.

We’ll likely be hosting a gamewatches for some of the baseball games throughout the season. Check our website ( http://www.newyorktexasexes.org/ ) or Facebook page for updates on gamewatches in the future.

All of our venues always have the TVs on the game and have the sound on as well. As highspeed mentioned, there are a shocking number of Texans up here and we love seeing the shock and terror on the faces of Yankees when we show up in boots, orange and sing the Texas Fight.

If there’s any other expats up here who want more information or have any questions, shoot me a message and we’d be glad to get you in the company of fellow Longhorns ASAP.

Sorry I'm late, busy week.

Houston: We liked Lucky’s well enough, when it was the official watching place. We caught a couple of games at the new watching place last season, The Junction (formerly the Wet Spot) on W. Gray near the Webster/Gray split. It was OK. Maybe it’ll pick up if it’s the official spot this year. We’ve seen many games at Champps Uptown over the past few years as well, but it’s one of those confused establishments – Am I a restaurant or a sports watching venue? The BW3 in Rice Village is good, but I think it’s owned by a Buckeye. The one on Buffalo Speedyway is nicer, but full of burr-headed aggys. I haven’t had the nerve to go in George’s, even though it’s closest to the house, but now that I know Wrangler is there snuggling up to Charity, I may go just to check that out.
