Rodney Terry Named Fresno State Head Basketball Coach
Longhorn assistant coach Rodney Terry is now former Longhorn assistant Rodney Terry after accepting the Fresno State head basketball coaching position early on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
One of two finalists for the job, along with Ohio State assistant Jeff Boals, after spending nine years working under Rick Barnes at Texas, Terry will take over for Steve Cleveland, who was reassigned March 17th after four straight losing seasons. Terry was also an assistant at Baylor and North Carolina-Wilmington before his time at Texas and played college basketball in Austin at St. Edward's University.
An Angleton native and the point man for the recruitments of the four Canadians at or committed to Texas, Terry was a major factor in starting the Canadian pipeline to Austin that has been so beneficial for the Longhorns and will continue to be beneficial when Myck Kabongo and Kevin Thomas arrive on campus this fall.
Terry is now the fifth Texas assistant under Rick Barnes to earn a head coaching job, joining Ricky Stokes (Virginia Tech), Rob Lanier (Siena), Frank Haith (Miami), and Ken McDonald (Western Kentucky).

Great for Terry. I'm sure Barnes is happy to see his people grow.
Hope this doesn’t affect our recruitment of Andrew Wiggins!

Opportunity
Barnes is a great recruiter and as the leader of an organization he needs to surround himself with people that complement his skill set. I hope Barnes hires someone very strong on the X & O, and player development side, recruiting should be secondary.
So you're saying
that the only perceived strength of Rick Barnes, recruiting, is actually more attributable to Rodney?
I think your a bit off base...
Barnes has always been considered to be a solid defensive coach which would be his biggest strength. That said, Barnes recruited well before Terry got here and continue to do so afterwards, you never attribute all of recruiting to an assistant or the head coach its a joint effort without one or the other you have different outcome. Barnes has an opportunity to hire bolster the staff with a recruiter and X & O coach.
Terry leaving could hurt our Canadian connection...
if my memory serves me correctly he played a pivotal role bringing Bradley, Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Kevin Thomas, and Kabongo to Texas.
ATX
Yes
but hopefully the Canadian players we’ve already brought in will inspire future players to play for Texas
