Besides the Longhorns, what games are you looking forward to seeing? Any diehard orangebloods converting to Aggie fans in hopes of an all-Texas finals?

I'm hoping
for a texas vs. south carolina finals matchup
Big 12
I hate the aggies but I’m tired of all the $EC bs so im pulling for an all texas championship game.
I'm hoping for Texas vs. Virginia in the championship series.
I’d be rooting hard for Texas, but it wouldn’t be such a bad consolation to have the Hoos win one.
Don't Understand......
FL is the #2 seed, and we’re the #7. So why do we play the second best team and three other schools that aren’t even seeded play seemingly lesser teams to start out with?? Am I the only one that finds this unjust?
It's just like the BBall tournament.
1 plays 8; 2 plays 7; 3 plays 6; 4 plays 5. They don’t reseed after each round.

Just like in March Madness
The seed are determined before the tournament and when upsets happen, then field is not reseeded. If KU had not lost to VCU, then they could have made it to the Final 4 playing no team higher than a 9 seed.
Here is the link to the original bracket to see which teams lost

Why do they do a 1-1 matchup and then back to the round robin format? Why not the round robin last weekend, and then do 1-1 with the final 4?
It is two 4 teams double elimination brackets
followed by a best 2 of 3 between the winners of each bracket

It is exactly like the Regionals and the Super Regionals combined.
The top team out of the 4 “regional” bracket will go on to face the other team that won their “regional”, to face off in a super Regional format to win the college world series. We can still lose 2 more games and still wear the crown at the end of June. It probably best we go that route anyways. :)

Hopefully they only lose one or none
because if they sweep, it will be on the Horns birthday present to ME

Texas-Florida is the marquee matchup of the first round
I’d like to see an all-Texas championship, but I doubt the Ags have the wherewithal to make it that far. And on the off-off-chance they beat us, we’d never hear the end of it.
Jungmann's Gotta Step Up
For Texas to have a prayer in the CWS without decent hitting Taylor Jungmann’s gotta get back to regular season form. His starts in the postseason have been lousy (and that’s being generous). TJ’s had an awesome season as a whole and an awesome career, but he must get his head on right in Omaha.
The last time I remember seeing a UT athlete perform dominantly in the regular season only to become a shadow of himself during the postseason was Chris Mihm from the late 1990’s basketball program. He was a stud against lesser competition, but when the big games jumped up he was a non-factor.
The Gators and the rest of the CWS field are not chumps Texas can just get by against. The Horns can’t afford to journey through the loser’s bracket again like they did in the Regionals against the level of talent that’s in Omaha. I’m pulling for and praying that TJ gets over whatever has gotten to him on the road to Omaha. We can win it all with him at his regular season self, won’t go very far without him.
"His starts in the postseason have been lousy (and that’s being generous). "
I think you’re being the opposite of generous. Against Arizona State, he gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run in 7.1 innings. That’s an ERA of 1.26, .1 BELOW his ERA for the year. It’s not his fault that his team forgot how to play defense behind him.
He had one bad inning against Kent State
Other than that he’s been nothing less than fabulous.

"It’s not his fault that his team forgot how to play defense behind him."
It’s also not his fault the team forgot to score more than one run, let alone the 4+ that would’ve won game one.
This is like O. Henry and Alanis Morrisette had a baby, and named it "This Exact Situation."

Let's not forget the Big 12 Tournament
Texas Longhorns IP H R ER BB SO AB BF NP

Jungmann, Taylor…. 9.0 1 1 1 4 7 27 31 130
I’ll take that performance any day.
HIs only real slip up the entire season was against Kent State. His performance against ASU (despite getting the loss) more than proves the Kent State game was an anomaly.
Ahhhh.....
He was nails against ASU with 1 earned run in 7.1 innings and only 3 hits. If his defense had been there (and the 2B and SS could have decided who was to take the throw) or if he had been backed by any offense he would have won the game.
Granted against Kent St he gave up the grand slam. But to categorize that as only being a shadow of his regualr-season self is a bit harsh.
Pardon the typos. Where is the splchec?
All new states are infested, more or less, by a class of noisy, second-rate men who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas was absolutely overrun by such men. --Sam Houston--
new CWS stadium
My apologies if this has already been covered, but does anybody know if the new stadium is a pitchers or a batters stadium? Wondering if Texas will have an edge or not.

Actually going to write about this.
But to give a preview, the new stadium has the same dimensions as Rosenblatt, but it is oriented differently, so instead of the wind usually blowing out to left, it’s going to be blowing in. Combined with the new bats, that should make it a pitcher’s park.

sweet, looking forward to your write up

Excited to see your write up
and the conversation that it sparks. One of the reasons I would look forward to our Longhorns making it to Omaha each year (if they got there) was to see the offense suddenly come alive in a different environment than the Disch. True, it made the “loud outs” at home become more perilous when pitching, but it seemed like it gave us a confidence to swing for the fences.
Off-hand I'm going to say never, but I really have no idea.

Never is correct
We have only been to Omaha the same year as the Ags once — 1999 — and we were in different brackets. We were both eliminated before the finals. (Thank you, wikipedia.)
Wouldn't mind an all Texas final
Realistically, I don’t think y’all have the hitting to get there. I don’t think A&M really does either even though we have been hot lately. With the Ags I worry about some of the younger guys freezing up on the big stage. The bright side for y’all is that your team has a swagger and believes it should win it all, and that may be enough.
by miketag on Jun 16, 2011 2:52 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
Hitting not A&M's problem
I think not having a strong third starter will be what sinks the Aggies. I’m assuming after the Florida State pummelling in game two that Childress will go with Wacha and Stripling in the first two games and see where that gets him. But if they lose either of those first two games, that means they MUST get a win from their third starter to get to the Finals. I’m not sure the chances of that happening are very good. On the flip side, if they can get wins in their first two games, then Childress can roll out anybody to perform batting practice for the other team knowing that he has another chance to advance.
the bright side
is that Hadley has not put two starts together like that in a row. I think Parrent should start but that is another discussion. I too imagine that we will start Wacha then Stripling. If teams can beat those two, then more power to them. Not expecting much from this bunch, but on the other hand I do not see some unbeatable team in our bracket either. Very happy UF and Vandy are on the other side of the bracket.
If we could hit consistently with runners on base, our lack of a 3rd starter would not matter.
