2011 College World Series: Texas-Carolina Open Thread
Texas plays its tenth elimination game of the postseason today (including the conference tournament), and the opponent is the North Carolina Tar Heels. Both squads succumbed to SEC powerhouses in their first games Saturday, and one of them will be the first team sent home from Omaha this year. Being eternal optimists, we feel like Texas will survive to play another day behind Cole Green--but it certainly won't be easy.
For those of you who are able to watch, we working masses kindly request game updates in the comments so that we may follow along on the BON. First pitch is at 1 PM CDT and TV is on ESPN and ESPN3.com. Hook 'em!

It will much easier to watch and report if we don't have the lovely Nomar to deal with.
There is not a situation or individual that cannot be improved by the addition of chocolate.
Does anyone talk about themselves more than Nomar?
Plus the other guy (forget his name) is like Nomar’s lap dog acting as though Nomar was this all time great, when in reality he just had a very good “nutrition specialist”
by LouisianaTexan on Jun 20, 2011 12:20 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Shouldn't be Nomar today
ESPN coverage of CWS the last few years has been one team doing the day games and another team doing the night games. That means we should get Mike Patrick and someone who’s name I should remember providing color commentary.

Audio alternative
Texassports should have free audio coverage of the game for those outside of the Austin area. You can mute the tv and listen to Craig Way on your computer. I say should, because the link is there and they have provided it for free in the past, but I have yet to confirm that it is free this year.
by TexasWright on Jun 20, 2011 12:29 PM CDT up reply actions
Tried that the other day
For me at least, it was about 10 seconds behind. I’ll try it again today since Way is a much better option than anyone else
by LouisianaTexan on Jun 20, 2011 12:32 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I actually prefer the audio behind
That way when watching at home I can pause the video (using DVR) and get them synched back up. What stinks is when the audio is ahead of the video, because there is no way to “delay” the audio to get it in synch with the video.

Green has been our best pitcher this month
The way things are going, I feel like it’s our ace against their #2. I like our chances and I love our chances with Stafford over anyone’s #3. Watch out, here come the Horns! Hook Em \m/

Nomar...work..and other matters of little interest
Did any of you find youself wanting to punch Nomar during the super regionals even when he was saying things nice about UT and Texas was beating ASU? He also does not seem to understand or at least embrace small-ball.
He especially irked me on one bunt (I think it was UT who bunted) on the first base side fielded by the pitcher with a runner on 2nd. Nomar went on a while berating the pitcher for not making the play at 3rd. If I recall correctly it was fielded not real close to the plate and the pitcher was a righty which means that he would have had to spun 270 degrees to have made the throw. Even with a clean pick-up and a quick throw with the runner breaking on the bunt there was no way to have gotten the out. It simply was a real good bunt.
If you are at work, you ought to be able to periodically get scores in almost real time on a number of websites, including but not limited to the NCAA. Or you can go “old school” with a transitor radio and a poorly hidden ear piece. If you are old enough to have done that, the chances of your being computer literate enough to be on this site are slim at best.
Hook ‘em and here’s hoping we are around to fight another day!!
Pardon the typos. Where is the splchec?
All new states are infested, more or less, by a class of noisy, second-rate men who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas was absolutely overrun by such men. --Sam Houston--
Anyone have a justin tv link?
or other non-espn3 link for video. Texassports radio feed is also blocked for me at work.

And likely having to keep track on mobile. Keep the updates coming. We’ve done it the hard way the entire playoffs. No reason to not believe we can’t get it done again. Hook ’Em.

Isn’t it kind of misleading when it’s described as being this huge place?
they are talking about the wind that will usually be blowing/across the field
and having lived in the western OK that wind is stopped by nothing out in the plains

2 down
Marcel Darius better watch his back in 2010
Wow. Maybe our guys think a 5-spot means the pitcher only has to throw 5 pitches this inning.
We're going to play like we're in a bad mood.
A runner on base! We have a runner on base!

Again Craig Way
says the 2nd baseman got a good jump on that one to get to that fly ball to shallow right? Gotta love the dream of Craig Way!

Time to manufacture some runs
Or just do it with one or two swings the bat, if preferred. Either way.

Walked a guy
I think Texas is hard-pressed to put a guy out there who would be more suited to the situation. One one hand, you want your best available arm out there to prevent a bigger lead, but you also don’t want to use the wunderkind yet if extra innings are in order.
I think Stafford’s the right call right now.

Yeah, I was thinking he looks like a first baseman out there
He was also pretty shallow at the pitch.

I'm out gang.
Not a sour grapes log-off…it’s 5:00 here in the East and I’m outta here. Hopefully we’ll be about to drive in the winning run when I turn it on at home. If not…GREAT season to the team, and to all of you. No matter what happens, being on BON always makes it better.

My son will be happy.
He attends UNC next year and he starts out with a victory over his Old Man’s team the first time they play. I will be pulling for Carolina the rest of the way. Great season Texas. Go Tar Heels!
3rd Degree Longhorn
Very good performance by the freshman
I’m pretty impressed, although it’s not like the bats were all that formidable.

Not that a trip to the CWS makes for a bad season...
…but it kind of stinks to see Texas as the first team eliminated in Omaha.

Congrats to the Horns on this season
Even if the ending was disappointing, this team showed a lot of heart churning through the regionals & super regionals. It is especially frustrating to see TJ and Cole go out that way. But credit is due all the same.
Please tell me we have some hitting on the way next year.

This team overachieved
Texas needs some bats next year. Sucks to see some quality arms leave, but good luck to them.
not the result we were looking for
but it has been great chatting with all of you. Next year, hopefully Josh Bell will be smacking homers at the disch and we’ll be back in the CWS
Losing Loy sucks, but Bell, Weiss, and some other guys could provide some much-needed offense

Kind of what they were saying.

Sad to see it's over, but it was a great run
Our identity was great pitching and timely hitting, but our pitching (which is what got us here) let us down.

How so?
Two runs surrendered today. That’s not bad. I know Jungmann gave up about quadruple his season average, but still, the bats were silent.

I live in East Cobb and know both of the pitchers
Who beat us, they are very well coached and as you can see pitch like vets, wish I could work for UT and bring some these kids to Austin , I know they would be willing to go
