Horns Fall to North Carolina 3-0

The Texas Longhorns exit Omaha after two games having managed just four hits against North Carolina on Tuesday. The loss ends the Texas season and likely the careers of Taylor Jungmann, Brandon Loy, Cole Green and Tant Shepherd. Considering the talent lost a year ago, even getting to Omaha is an accomplishment for Texas baseball. We're certainly disappointed in the result, but proud of the effort from the boys in burnt orange.

A thorough season review later on. For now this can be your commiseration thread. 74 days until football starts!

Actually,

I guess I can put this in some historical significance. Thanks to Bobby Bragg on Twitter for this, but today’s loss marked only the fourth time in 34 trips to Omaha that the Longhorns have lost the first two games — 1961 ,1965, 2000, and this year. Or put another way, it’s only happened once since ’65.

Yeah ...

… due to work, I had to DVR the game and hadn’t seen it yet but when I saw the post "Horns Fall … ", it was so weird that it didn’t make sense at first. UT two & out in Omaha is something unnatural to us all.

my 2 cents

First – awesome job Longhorns in reaching the CWS and the great Big 12 season. (To be honest, I wasn’t sure we would get past Az St.) Awesome job in fighting when their backs were against the wall.

However…
….not sure why they Horns continually put themselves in a position to have to claw their way back.
…not sure why they continually faltered in the 3rd game of a series during the regular season. Seems it was always the Sunday game.

I’m not going to criticize Augie-ball at all. He obviously knows more than I do (and probably most of us), as his record is top-notch. But with that said, it sure would be nice to have some guys that can consistently manufacture some hits and runs. You can’t just flip a switch and become a hitter when you want/need – you can either hit or you can’t. Just sayin’……

Go CAL. Go Aggies.

Congratulations to the team

As always, exciting for this fan to see Texas back among the elite eight who made it to Omaha. Thanks, guys. See you next year.

Congrats to the baseball team for a successful season

Are we pre-emptively commiserating on the 2011 football season?

Disappointing end to the year - for all UT sports

But I’m still so proud of the baseball team for getting to Omaha once again. Just like making it to the Final Four or Elite Eight in basketball. A loss stings, but it’s still great to make it to Nebraska.

Let’s hope 2011-12 is a better year all around for the UT sports program.

Watch out, I bite.

Getting to see the horns in the new stadium

was an amazing experience. I really wish Texas woulda win but I realize how difficult that is.

One problem I do have is no alcohol at the game, pretty lame IMO.

Texas baseball finished #7 or #8 in the nation.

If our football team matches baseball’s accomplishments, it will be a great in both baseball and football. Basketball made the sweet 16, and that’s not a total loss either, even if we all hoped to do better.

Uh...

About that Sweet 16 appearance…

I guess it wouldn't make you feel any better if I pointed out

The bad call when we called timeout, would it?

No, I didn’t think so.

Ok, basketball was kind of a bummer.

Baseball may have finished about right.

Now let’s see what football accomplishes. Of course, we don’t have much choice, do we?

I hope Augie took advantage of the flooded Missouri River to give their bats a proper burial at sea.

They got the early-bird special right after the superregional.

by burntorangehorn on Jun 21, 2011 7:21 AM CDT up reply actions

That was bad.

I’ve never seen us more helpless. We just had nothing. No mojo. No moxie. No hunger. I think Augie knew it, too. We were just flat and apathetic.

Next up

Texas Longhorn Football….

Can’t wait, I think Texas will surprise some folks this year. I think they could get 10 wins this year. They weren’t that bad this year. Most of the games they lost, they lost because they turned the ball over but had better stats than the other team. They fix that and improve the potency of the offense and running game, they are back in business.

Think 1990 and the "Shock the Nation" team.

I could really see that happening. I really wish UT could play Oklahoma in the first game of the season. How the heck are you supposed to prepare for a Texas team that you have no idea whattheir offense or their defense is going to look like? It’ll be such an advantage over the opponent for at least the first couple of games. After that, the players need to get their heads screwed on because everyone is going to be on a feeding frenzy for more Longhorn blood this year. Let’s hope the ’Horns (& GG) surprise everyone.

Onward

Now Bobby Layne and Jim Street can leave the mound and duke it out as to which is this Fall’s QB.

Pardon the typos. Where is the splchec?

All new states are infested, more or less, by a class of noisy, second-rate men who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas was absolutely overrun by such men. --Sam Houston--

Shea Morenz never quite made it into this club.

He was a stud in high school in both of those sports.

I blame it all on

the new uniforms going into the CWS.

Knew that was a bad idea. Must’ve been Costanza.
