Auburn Payroll: Tens of Thousands To Hostesses
A recent financial audit by Sports by Brooks of payments made by Auburn University to student football recruiting hostesses since late 2009 revealed that the state-funded institution paid out tens of thousands of dollars to the student "Tigerettes" charged with escorting football players during recruiting visits to the school.

Is this where outraged taxpayers march and shake their fists...
…or when they say athletes should be paid?
This is like O. Henry and Alanis Morrisette had a baby, and named it "This Exact Situation."

Tennessee got into trouble over something like this under Kiffin, IIRC

I thought this stuff was done by non-profit
Sorority type organizations/spirit groups. Plenty of students (including pretty sociable girls) would love to do it for free to get the inside connections with the powers that be. Why bother paying them? This is like saying the school should pay the Silver Spurs a salary to take care of Bevo.
Wonder if Texas pays its hostesses and if other schools do too?
Don't be such a baby.
Texas didn't used to. Would hope that's still the case.
it used to be an “honor” type of position. Girls were “invited” to participate. Not sure what the rules are these days.
There is not a situation or individual that cannot be improved by the addition of chocolate.
Exactly
Sad to think you have to pay someone to be a host/hostess at their own school.
It makes me wonder if they were paid for “services rendered” or for “expenses incurred”. Either way when dealing with recruits that are not on official visits it is probably not allowed.
Next thing you know McFarland will let it slip that folks were romancing each other in Auburn.
Don't be such a baby.
It is still a creepy enterprise for me. I never thought there was anything shady or unethical going on, but to parade a bunch of pretty girls just to get a recruit?
What we have here is a failure to execute.

Yeah, makes the place seem like a strip club, doesn't it?
