Texas Baseball Survives Elimination, Beats Kent State to Advance
Less than 24 hours after Kent State ace Andrew Chafin drew the ire of Longhorn nation by making a throat-slash gesture to the Texas pressbox at UFCU Dish-Falk Field, a gritty Texas team slit the throat of the best season in Kent State's history with a 5-0 win. Six pitchers combined to shutout the Golden Flashes, allowing only five hits and including gutsy performances from Sam Stafford, Cole Green, and Taylor Jungmann. Offensively, once again the Longhorns manufactured runs -- prompting the Kent State head coach to comment that he's never seen a baseball team that does so better.
By surviving three elimination games in the span of about a day, the Longhorns advance to the Super Regionals to face a familiar foe -- the Arizona State Sun Devils. The series will open on either Friday or Saturday at the Disch, with the schedule to be determined late this evening.
This is your celebration thread. And also a reminder -- don't mess with Texas.

Super Regional questions
1) What will determine if they play Fri or Sat?
2) Is it just a best of 3 series between Arizona and UT?
I ask because I’ll be out of town Sat-Mon, so I’m hoping to either catch the Friday game or go to a game after the weekend is over.
Haven't followed much about ASU t his year
what do we know about them? Their record looks impressive.
Impressive enough
that I hope we’re back to starting Taylor Jungmann in game 1. Stafford was awesome, though.
We have a 12th man and he's Bryan Harsin

Thank you Andrew Chafin
Bet no one wants to sit by that guy on the way back home.
Reminded me of the TCU celebration on the Longhorn last season...
Boatraced out of this season’s tourney as a #1. Buh-bye.
Wasn't this system designed to prevent this from happening?
2010/11 Final BCS Standings

Damn glad to get through this one
But . . . there’s always a but . . . I’m not real sure what it proves. Kent State is not exactly Vanderbilt or Virginia. We were the home team.
I worry a bit about Green coming back the day after he pitched 8 innings; the way we hit, Green needs to be on top of his game when he works Game 2.
Possibility all the other No. 1 seeds in Texas will be gone — TCU and Rice are already out; Aggies are still alive.
Duly Noted Edsp - BUT
This team has heart and pitching and that can take you a long way.

Hopefully this makes them a little more confident for ASU and Omaha
But it did not make for a productive afternoon at work!

Um, did we already win the Super Regionals?
I was clicking around, looking up info on ASU, and this popped up.

Apparently it’s been resolved, or did someone just forget that they were banned from the postseason?
We're going to play like we're in a bad mood.
not resolved
ASU appealed, and they are awaiting a decision by the NCAA Infractions Appeals committee. The committee is expected to have a ruling in a few weeks, but because the ruling wasnt made prior to the start of this year’s tournament, they were allowed to be included.
Its very likely they lose the appeal and end up serving the postseason ban in 2012. At least thats my understanding.

Great writeup, GoBR
It was a fantastic comeback…no offense to Tant, but Lusson is my MOP, three biggest hit of the 2011 season IMO.

I Missed the Throat-Slash
What, exactly, happened and why?
Coming onto the field before the second game Sunday
Chafin looked at the Texas pressbox and gave the throat-slashing gesture. Why? Apparently he thought Kent State was in pretty good position to close out the Longhorns. Not so fast, my friend.

Then he should know better than most,
that nobody, and I mean NO-body, comes into our house and pushes us around.
We're going to play like we're in a bad mood.
