OU claims that top shelf DE Mario Edwards is on campus today checking them out. If true, I sure hope that the talented, top rated player gives us a chance also. He has been a firm FSU commit since March, but maybe the logistics of going to school in Tallahassee is starting to give him second thoughts.
Edwards is a stud, and I would much rather him go to FSU than OU. So far OU has been very light in the defensive recruiting department. OU's current list of 11 committed players includes only 2 defensive guys per Scout, but the list is probably 3 out of 11 if you include Daniel Brooks who Scout lists as a WR but is more likely to be a DB. The two current defensive commits are not elite prospects in that neither is even a 4 star. But, then again, Thorpe Award Watch List DB Blake Gideon was only a 3 star guy. I jest. Ha ha.
Also in big OU recruiting news --it seems that OU must be out of the running for the services of #1 rated QB Gunner Kiel. OU recently flipped A&M Commit QB Trevor Knight out of San Antonio. Knight is ranked in the mid 20s as an overall QB recruit, but he is a dual threat guy. This is very good news for the Horns.
The fact that OU finally made an offer to Knight suggests to this Longhorn fan that Kiel is no longer in play for them. Why else would Knight, who was on of two QBs committed to the Aggies decide to jump ship? Also, the rumors on Kiel is that it is down to Alabama and Indiana. Logistics clearly give IU the lead. Recently when he was asked "why Indiana" his response was "why not Indiana"? His commit may finally give the Hoosiers a shot at competeing in the Big 10+2. Who else would love to see IU beat Nebraska!!!
Additionally, the fact that OU finally offered and received the commit of a QB who was not their first choice may be bolstered by the fact that former Crimson and Cream OC Kevin Wilson is now the Cream and Crimson of IU's new Head Coach. Maybe Kiel or former Land Their OC Wilson let the land thieves know that they should move on to their next choice.
