i hope Vince goes to a team that actually lets WANTS Vince to play for them
i hope every former Longhorn finds a way out of that team
formerly "Horns102591"
Ahmard Hall has been doing pretty well there
I don’t see Ahmard leaving too soon
Now Kirkendoll
"Hey, don't y'all think that's beautiful right there? That crystal is SO beautiful. And it's coming home to Texas." - Vince Young
poor guy
Titans and Fisher treated VY like crap. I can’t imagine Kirkendoll is happy about them signed him, but it is better than being unsigned, maybe.
Don't be such a baby.
Considering the minimum salary
has now been raised to $375,000, I’d say it ain’t a bad gig, even if it’s only for one year. I know I’ll probably never make that much in a year.

VY
He needs to go to a team where he can play his game and not be molded into something he isn’t. He’s a winner and his Win-Loss record is pretty good as a starter in the NFL.
He's more than a winner.
He’s a pretty good passer too. His QB rating over the past 2 seasons is roughly the same as Brady’s at the same age.

Where will he end up?
A lot of people are saying Philadelphia, but I think he would prefer to go somewhere where he has a chance of winning the starting job. Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller are the quarterbacks in Oakland. That is weak competition. I think he would beat them out by mid-season. But if Orton doesn’t end up in Miami, then who knows what could happen. We could see a mini-bidding war.

please play for philly, vy
heir to vick and playing time almost guaranteed cause you know he’s getting hurt. 2 of the finest freaky athletic qbs in the league with jackson and maclin and celek to work with…come on vy…come on
Would love for him to come home to Houston
He has what Schaub doesn’t and that is swagger and a desire to win. That is why the Titans frustrated the hell out of him.
Don't be such a baby.
are you serious
what about Schaub tells you that he has no desire to win? He’s a flat out better QB than Young and presents no interpersonal distractions.

I actually like T.J. Yates.
I’d rather he go to Dallas. They have no back-up quarterback to speak of. But I don’t see it happening.
Learning some life lessons from Vick would be good for him, but it would be a waste of time if he never sees the field to showcase his talents. Miami would be cool. Vince Young and Reggie Bush on the same team? The #2 overall pick and the #3 overall pick? The Heisman “winner” and the Heisman runner up? That’d be weird.
But there are a bunch of places around the league where the competition for the starting job is pretty weak. I hope he doesn’t end up in Philly where he has no chance of becoming the starter (short of an injury).

That is the most asinine thing I've ever heard.

Also, the Texans just re-signed Leinart
Leinart will most likely be the #1 backup QB

Yeah, he's number #1 unless Houston brought VY in...
In an open competition, no doubt Vince would outplay him and steal his lunch money, just like in college.

I doubt VY will ever play for Houston after getting snubbed. It would have to be one hell of an offer.

ESPN suggests he'll be backing up Vick in Philly
I’d like to see him backup Colt in Cleveland… just for the lols and awkwardness.

I see you don’t at all take seriously the responsibility of reasonable thinking that should accompany it. That someone like you has any kind of public voice is the greatest testament to the fallibility of democracy.

I hacked into it and they haven’t figured how to get me off. I always though the fallibility of democracy manifested itself in the city council style government in Dallas, where stupid people continue to elect their own to run the city further into the ground.
If reasonable thinking was a requirement for writing or commenting on a blog

Vince’s mistakes are really tiny in comparison.
I like the Philly situation. There is a good chance that he will see the field, with Vick’s injury history, and Reid seems to have a pretty good track record with adapting what he does offensively to his QB’s skills.
Andy Reid can do a lot to help VY move on to the next stage in his career.

Not sure how I feel about the Philly signing.
Personally, I find it laughable that VY shouldn’t be starting in the NFL, so to see him go to a team with an intrenched starting QB is a bit of a disappointment (ignoring my Cowboys loyalty). But, no starting QB guarantees their backup time on the field more than Vick, so if he does have to be 2nd string, Philly is the place to do it. I would have preferred to see him go somewhere like Oakland or Minnesota, where he could compete for a starting role, but at least he didn’t end up somewhere like New England or San Diego.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
Philly is a well run team
If we take the long view, and set aside that Vince starts as a backup, then going to Philly is a great situation. Reed is the type of coach who seems to do well with QBs. Rather than being thrown to the wolves in a disfunctional place like Oakland or Minnesota, he will at least be joining a well run team.

VY was perhaps the greatest athlete I have ever seen in college. Due to his great athletic ability he was a huge winner and won a NC for UT.
Gentlemen that was college. Time and again college success does not translate into NFL success. The game is faster and played smarter because every man out there was the ‘best’ player on the field for every game he played in college.
The truly great ones look to find an edge whereever they can which includes, but is not limted to a lot of time in the film room. It is like the jump from HS to college. some stars in HS simply never pan out in college. Some simply do not have the talent; some grow thier talent better; some study film in college and are better prepared than others. (I bet Colt and Major studied film a lot more than VY while they were in Austin.)
But you say, he was a winner in the NFL…simply look at his won/loss record.
Are you telling me that Jeff Fisher who has coached the Titans longer than any other active coach in the NFL cannot evaluate talent and because he and VY did not click he chose to lose? That is ridiculous.
Fisher coached Steve McNair who like VY was a strong runner as a QB. McNair however developed into a quality passer. VY has not yet done this.
I hate to break it to you but VY prepared for games in the NFL the way he has always prepared: he did not study film (which is absolutely essential in the NFL) and instead relied on what had gotten him there, his natural athletic talent. Sorry but that is not enough in the NFL.
And when it was not enough and Fisher demanded more, VY balked and then pouted.
Bud Adams has a tradition of adopting his guy among his players. First it was Billy Cannon. Later it was Don Trull. Still later it was Earl Campbell. And finally it was VY.
What is the common tread in each of these: all were highly successful college players who were either from Texas or next door in Louisiana. So each had a nice marketing cache as well. Bud might own a team in Nashville but he still lives in Houston and he likes to be liked and what is more likeable than having the UT hero play for your team after the Houston team passed on him.
Bud’s attachment to VY created a conflict with Fisher from the start. And VY’s game preparation and then his tantrums increased the small split into a large separation.
I still like VY. I wish he would grow up. He has talent. He has shortcomings. To be really good in the NFL you have to work to overcome those shortcomings and VY has not done that. Maybe a new start in Philly will allow him to do that.
Don’t be an Aggie, don’t blindly ignore his faults because he wore burnt orange. You can love him for what he did and hope he does well, but until VY and his UT fanbase accept reality, he will be a NFL journeyman QB. And saying it was Fisher’s fault is allowing VY an excuse to continue his default behaviour.
Pardon the typos. Where is the splchec?

By any measurement, Vince has not been a bust in the NFL
Unless you are counting media coverage.
You offer no explanation other than, “Jeff Fischer knows what he’s doing! So VY must be bad!”.
Bust might be too strong of a word
but between Mario, VY, and Bush, only Mario even comes close to living up to his draft pick choice.
by goingforthecorner on Jul 29, 2011 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions
How many live up to their draft pick number?
Lets take the #1 pick QB’s for the last ten years:
Vick, Carr, Palmer, Manning (Eli), Alex Smith, Jamarcus Russell, Stafford, Bradford.
Some are doing well, some bust, some are doing OK. I think Vince falls into the “OK” category. More often than not, though, people don’t live up to the draft hype. I mean, how could you?
I would say bust
It is one thing to be a top 5 pick and be like Russell Maryland and start for 10 years and contribute to a championship team and maybe make a pro bowl or two. It is another to be a consistent distraction and have shortcomings on the field big enough for your coaches to have to gameplan around. There are 5-7 true franchise QBs in the NFL. There are about 15-20 who are starters but are just holding a spot until they can find someone better. Young is in neither one of those groups. Luckily he will go to one of the best teams to build himself up as a QB. If Reid can’t make him better then no one will.
So you're saying that
Vince didn’t prepare yet still made massive improvements over his 5 seasons.
QB Rating:
2006-66.7
2007-71.1
2008-64.5 (barely played)
2009-82.8
2010-98.6
His combined QB rating over the past 2 seasons (18 starts) is 88.8. Brady’s QB rating over the ages 26-27 was 89.0. For QBs with at least 16 starts over the ages 26-27, VY’s 88.8 is 16th ALL TIME. Last season he was the NFL’s best passer on passes longer than 20 yards. He was 5th best on 3rd down.
So you think he did this without preparation? You think he can’t throw? Have you actually seen him play the past 2 seasons?
by bevosbackside on Jul 29, 2011 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions
Game preparation?
First I’ve heard of this. In college he seemed well prepared.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
In college he was a man among boys. Here are some articles about his lack of work effort.
Reportedly, he was very selfish. He didn’t want to put in the time and effort to be successful, thinking that he could get by on talent alone. He had a sense of entitlement coming out of Texas, winning the National Championship in his final season there.
If Young wants to be successful in the NFL going forward he should talk to Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick. When Vick first entered the league with the Falcons, he got by on his talent alone. He didn’t want to put in the time and effort to be a great quarterback.
That all changed in 2010. Vick did all the work and he was able to become a quarterback first and an athlete second.
The fact of the matter is, Young has the talent to be a superstar in the right offensive system, but his poor attitude and work ethic will prevent him from reaching his full potential.
Vince Young is lazy, apathetic, entitled, and pampered. When things don’t go the way he likes them to, he storms off the field, hides from the media, and seemingly threatens suicide.
http://www.stampedeblue.com/2009/10/30/1107555/the-return-of-vince-young-ready
That’s a far cry from the way his predecessor Vince Young operated while he was the Titans quarterback. Young might say that the focus wasn’t about him, but his actions and ego spoke otherwise. Young had his times when he didn’t want to talk to the media either, but more often than not, it was because he didn’t want to be held accountable for his shortcomings and mistakes – often treating media sessions with the same zeal he treated extra film study.
Pardon the typos. Where is the splchec?
All new states are infested, more or less, by a class of noisy, second-rate men who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas was absolutely overrun by such men. --Sam Houston--
a few more articles
The problems in Tennessee surrounding Vince Young and Jeff Fisher are directly related to preparation. Fisher has never fully believed in his "franchise QB" because he has never believed Young prepares like a franchise quarterback.
Young constantly misses practice with an assortment of nagging injuries. He has never developed a reputation as a film-study student of the game.
Talent can be a curse. At Texas, Young’s physical gifts were so overwhelming he didn’t need to prepare while in college. He simply needed to show up on game day healthy and in solid cardiovascular shape. Young never learned to compete at a professional level.
•Hard worker – Constantly mentioned as being "first one to arrive, last one to leave" type of guys when it comes to workouts/film study. Somebody like Vince Young would be the complete antithesis of this.

would jive with what they said about him on the NFL Network earlier today
when they said he did not work hard in the preseason because he said, “just let Kerry Collins have the starting spot.”
Who's they?
Are there actual sources for these claims. The linked articles are mostly blowhards giving unsourced opinions.

The fact that VY can't land with a team
is a much poorer reflection on the NFL than it is on Vince Young.
The emperor has no clothes, and let’s face it…the NFL is boring and predictable.
We're going to play like we're in a bad mood.
Just saw he signed with the Eagles.
Maybe Reid will let Vince be Vince. It took Mack a while to figure it out too.
The NFL is still boring. Thank you.
We're going to play like we're in a bad mood.
if this is simply a case of Young getting screwed by the coaches
then why don’t you see a bunch of his teammates coming to his defense? The bottom line is that Young needs to grow up and be a man. The NFL is a league for professionals. They don’t care if your feelings are hurt, or someone wrote a bad article about you. You are paid to perform at a high level and Young was unable to, or simply refused to do that.
Remember Kenny Britt's Towel?
He paid a nice fine for the defense of VY. CJ was lobbying for the Titans to keep VY right up until the draft. Bo Scaife claimed that the offense was fully behind him. The only player I’ve seen criticize VY was Kevin Mawae, who did it after leaving the team.
by bevosbackside on Jul 29, 2011 5:47 PM CDT up reply actions
Also,
how can you look at what VY did the last two seasons and NOT call that playing at a high level?
VY 2009-2010, ages 26-27
21 Games, 18 Starts, 245/415, 59.0%, 3134 yards, 20 TD, 10 INT, 88.8 Rating, 7.55 Y/A, 7.43 ANY/A
Brady 2003-2004, ages 26-27
32 Games, 32 Starts, 605/1001, 60.4%, 7312 yards, 51 TD, 26 INT, 89.0 Rating, 7.30 Y/A, 7.15 ANY/A
Brady had a better completion percentage and obviously threw a lot more. VY had a slightly better TD/INT and better yards/attempt. VY also had 80 carries for 406 yards for 5.08 Y/A and 2 TDs.
VY isn’t Brady, but how can you seriously call that not playing at a high level?

So it's only a 1 year deal..
not a bad idea to sit behind injury-prone Vick and he’ll get some game time this year…..hoping he makes the most of his opportunity. I don’t think there are a ton of positive situations for VY right now…..so why not do a 1 year deal and see what opens up next season.

I question Miller's toughness. He had a bruise. In practice.
“Maybe if Colt was a little bit physically tougher, the game might have been different, but maybe not. One-Hit McCoy, Sissyboy McCoy, all are apt descriptions of McCoy after Thursday night. Garret Gilbert took more hits and harder hits than McCoy did all night, and he kept getting up and kept playing. Stephen McGee took countless hits running the option for A&M for three years, and he never went out of a game. McCoy runs one option play against Alabama, and he’s done for the night. McCoy had his chance to play, he just physically wasn’t up to continuing past four plays. " …Beergut

They don’t stop the entire practice, so that Von Miller can catch his breath. Not being able to get a time out every time he gets tired will make things a whole lot tougher.
