Turner, Shipley, Bergeron turning heads
The Statesman's Kirk Bohls reports that three incoming freshmen are making summer statements in the ongoing workouts. Jaxon Shipley is no surprise. Josh Turner sounds encouraging -- looks like we'll be playing 1 sophomore and 3-4 freshmen at corner this season. Bohls says FB Joe Bergeron is a workout and fitness geek. Less promising is the report on a pair of frosh linebackers, Chet Moss and Steve Edmond.

Disapointing to hear that about Edmond.
He had a lot of hype coming out of high school. Hopefully we don’t need him next season if he’s not ready to play.
I live out here in East Texas
Seen Edmond play a lot…he always seemed lazy to me. I don’t know his personal life but just watching him on the field and off the field ,meaning practice, he just seemed lazy as if he had it made and in 2A ball he did.
Watched him play Refugio at Sam Houston 2 seasons ago.
You could tell that he was the best player on the field, but yeah I did get that lazy vibe from him. I’m going to go out on a limb and bet that Bennie Wylie breaks that in a hurry.
Interesting....
that they were the only 3 Horns selected to play on the USA Football team against the World earlier this year.
Every time I feel down and depressed, I think of seven simple words by a true wise man, Matt Leinart: "I still think we're the better team" and I usually end up hurting myself by laughing so hard.
Doesn't surprise me
about Bergeron. He was an absolute beast at the USA World game.
Good and bad news on the TE situation
Freshman McFarland an aggresive physical specimen. Irby prolly never gonna be his old self.

Corners
Looks like the scholarship holdovers from 2010 are Byndom, Barnett, White, and Jackson. The first three are sophomores, and Jackson is a redshirt freshman. Then of course there are Turner, Evans, Scott, Diggs, and possibly Mykelle Thompson.

You're correct on the sophs at CB
Phillips is now a corner after playing safety in 2010 . . . White and Byndom played some last year. Barnett played a bit, then got hurt, and I think there was a story this spring that he’d miss the 2011 season because of surgery. Then Diggs, who was in spring training, and Turner.
Lots of upside potential and a plus on the talent side . . . but scary young. Almost like the safety situation in 2008.
I remember when Palmer and co were all gone...
…and Williams, Brown, etc. all turned out pretty well at corner. It’s not that this is entirely analogous, but while it doesn’t make me optimistic, I’m not quite as alarmed as I would’ve been without a guy like Akina there.

(Williams, Brown, etc. all turned out well that year, at least)
