I think most of us would agree that we just want to see Texas back to their winning ways this year. But I'm here to ask, how do you think Texas will actually fare this year? And what would be classified as a "good season"?
Obviously, a lot will depend on whether someone finally emerges as a strong leader at QB. I think a lot will also depend on how our running game develops under Harsin/Applewhite, and perhaps the impact of Malcolm Brown. If the running game develops strong, we wouldn't have to rely on an amazing QB to have a great year.
If you break down the schedule, I think there are a couple games to be cautious about (BYU, UCLA early). But I also think that if Texas gets its act together, we will fully compete with A&M, OK State and even Oklahoma. All things considered, I could see us winning one of those three (namely, Oklahoma St. at home), but the others should be close and could still go either way depending on how our team comes together. On the other hand, I could see us losing at least one game during the year we probably shouldn't (perhaps BYU).
I really think 9-3 with a bowl appearance is a feasible season, and would make me a happy camper. But an 8-4 season would be satisfactory and still a huge improvement over last year. Thoughts?
