Texas Longhorn QB Connor Wood is Transferring to The University of Colorado
Update 8/30: It's official as the University issues a press release announcing Wood's transfer. Hook 'em, Connor, and good luck to you.
As has been reported here and on other Texas boards, all-around athlete and Longhorn redshirt freshman quarterback Conner Wood has all but released the transfer papers to the media. SBNation is running with the story and Hookem 24/7 ($) is reporting that Connor's dad has confirmed his son will become a Colorado Buffalo.
Wood battled for the starting job against two untested and one bested quarterback after the Longhorns' first losing season since John Mackovic's last as head coach.
Wood was really on the outside looking in for the quarterback race despite his dedication to improving his skills attending one quarterback camp after another during the offseason. In spite of the training, second-hand reporting of his live practice action told of inconsistency and inaccuracy, traits that are minimum requirements at the position.
Longhorn nation wishes nothing but the best for Connor Wood and hopes he can work into a system where his talents are accentuated.

Yep
If he starts he will be my Longhorn surrogate against Lane Kiffin’s secondary.

My sentiments exactly
I also hope he wins the 2012 QB comp & kicks much ass in the PAC-12 North.

Best of luck to Connor
I have some ties to Second Baptist, I was really rooting for Connor. It’s apparent that Connor wants a chance to be a starting quarterback. I would have urged patience, but I wish Connor nothing but the best.

Noble concept Bill
but with the (rigged) “open” QB comp this year, Connor didn’t stand a chance!

You're right, Connor didn't stand a chance.
But it’s not because of a “rigged” competition, it’s because he couldn’t hit the broadside of the barn in practice. Still, he has tons of potential, and has another year to work on it.
I think Connor should have considered going to a JC for a semester / year to gain some starting experience before transferring to a Division 1. It’s going to be the scout team all over again for Connor this year at Colorado.

Best of Luck Connor
Enjoy the lack of humidity and crisp air!
He is my starter on a national title team in ncaa 12.
So he has that at Texas. But really good luck.
Have trouble deciding
whether Wood or Ash has the most pure talent and potential of the four quarterbacks who competed for the job this fall. Still believe that Wood has a lot of upside if he can solve his accuracy/consistency problems. Best of luck to him in Boulder.

I get that
…but he’s enough of an ‘If’ that he just didn’t stand out. I think he’s better than Case…but either way that’s third string. Go get em Wood!

Good luck....
…except when we end up facing them in 2014 when every university has their own network and the Pac-16 is finally formed.
Longhorn Trivia ...
Without looking it up (we’re all on honor system, right?), name any the former Longhorn QBs who have transferred out & made a name for themselves at another program. The last 2 are fairly well-known. Can you name any others?
Any other position players who did well somewhere else in CFB?
OK, this can be an open-internet test.
a baseball player or two...
Right? Matt Nordgren might have benefitted from transferring.
I guess he didn't exactly transfer...
And he never played elsewhere in college football. But this guy had some athletic success.

Yep, y'all got the two I was thinking of.
Kinne & Snead. I can’t think of any others without digging into it.
Adam Dunn. He counts right?
Actually i just wanted an excuse to post about the guy with my favorite nickname of all time. ‘The Big Donkey’. Heee hawwww!

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention the great Marty Cherry
He parlayed a cameo appearance in the Route 66 game into a modeling career and turned the world of fashion right side up with his smoldering, “Burnt Mango” stare. It launched 37 new flavors of cologne and made tweeners everywhere lose control.
Matt Nordgren refers to Cherry as the “Jackie Robinson” of back-up QB couture.

Well, it's not exactly what I was thinking for trivia ...
… but I guess we can count ’em. Cherry, Nordgren, & Dunn certainly are doing well.
Adam Hall
Had some success at SDSU. Plus living in San Diego is pretty much winning in and of itself.

Now, THAT's what we're looking for!
Excellent find, Blanton. He was stellar at SDSU.
Sam Acho used to attend the same church as me
and one Sunday morning in the spring of 2010, when Wood who had just enrolled early, came into service with Acho. That really spoke to me a lot about the type of man and leader Acho is. A senior reaching out to a early enrolled freshman who played a completely different position.
Do not be distracted by what you see, but be transformed by what you believe.
Good luck, Connor
In this case, I think the “grass” may actually be greener on the other side…the Buffs smoke some good shit up there. It ain’t called Rocky Mountain High for nothing.
And if that doesn’t work out, Matt Nordgren says you can be his stunt double on Most Eligible Dallas. He broke a nail in the last episode and they nearly had to cancel the show.

I wanted Connor to know I was sincere.
Not sure why it did that…didn’t ask for bold. Plus, I always use ALL CAPS when I want to announce my presence with authority. People like ALL CAP COMMENTS.

Good Luck Connor
Go be a great one and prove the coaches contracts with GG’s dad wrong.
Dude, now that ain't even right.
Mack learned his lesson with the Simms contract.
There are always going to be a lot of QB transfers from Texas
Anyone who comes to play the position is probably pretty good, and they are going to want to play. But you can only play one QB at a time.
