It's down to 3 conference options the Longhorns...
ACC is officially closed - http://hamptonroads.com/2011/09/report-acc-accept-pitt-syracuse-uconn-rutgers-radar
And of course with that, so is the Big East. So place your bets on PAC-12, Big 12, or Independence that is unless you think the SEC is still a desirable option. I think getting ready for some late-night TV watching (who didn't enjoying some 12:30am viewing of the Stanford/Arizona this morning?) of Longhorns athletic events is on tap...
PS Still throwing a few bucks in the plate today at church for the Big 12 somehow surviving w/ Texas staying...

Well, no, the ACC isn't "officially" closed yet...
…if UConn and Rutgers are merely on the radar.

my take
Not sure we should consider UConn and Rutgers to the ACC as forgone. These two may just be trying to preempt the others, particularly WVA and TCU, but may ultimately not get invited. Regardless of which teams now leave, its apparent that the Big East is caving.
This now becomes the Big 12’s moment. If the conference is to stay together, it has to step up and pick up WVA, TCU, BYU, and someone like Boise State and/or Louisville to get to 14. Otherwise, the Big 12 is going to be the next domino to fall.
I think this now comes down to three schools. OU, WVA, and Mizzou in that order.
If OU leaves, the Big 12 becomes the next conference to bite the dust.
If WVA goes to the SEC, this round of realignment could be finished for the ACC and the SEC with both conference at 14. Then the focus shifts to the Big 10, PAC 12, and Big 12-3 to figure out what is next.
Others may think I’m crazy, but I see Mizzou’s hand as strengthening because they are such a good geographic to many conferences because they are centrally located and still command a decent market. If they leave the Big 12-3, I think the conference will be done because it will be perceived as being far to weak and unstable to attract new membership.
One thing to remember...
….48 hours ago, no one, and I mean no one, had Syracuse as the next team on the clock.
Nobody knows nothing.

connecting the dots
hindsight is that we should have given more notice to the fact that the ACC increased the exit fee, which basically meant the ACC and the Big East entered thunderdome with the ACC having the advantage.
ACC commish Swofford stated this morning...
the ACC will stick to equal-revenue sharing, period. That’s a shot at Texas…..to me ACC is not happening, nor did I want to see it either.
The only shot Texas has at keeping LHN is finding a way to save Big 12 or go independent…..simple as that. Is the priority finding a stable conference or the LHN…..I imagine that will be the biggest question for Texas.
3rd tier rights
Equal revenue sharing is only for the first and second tier rights in the conference TV deals. Profits from 3rd tier deals (such as when games get shown on pay-per-view) are kept by the individual school. Therefore, I don’t think this affects the LHN.
but..
adding two teams means their (ACC) contractual obligations are now open for renegotiation and 3rd tier rights are possibly going to be re-evaluated? interesting..
As interesting
as the complexity of 2+2.. The only way 3rd tier would come into that would be the creation of the ACC Network.
R00T was right. There’s no point to try to polish the idea. It was bad. Let it go.
Academia?
Ok, so all that about Texas not interested in the sec because we were superior academically and NOW you think we would consider hanging with wva and rutgers in the acc? Don’t buy it. It’s independent or PAC 14. The only other conference UT would ever consider would be Big 10 and they don’t want us because we would recruit their prospects away. Corn people would shoot themselves if we joined. As far as Big 12 is concerned, Texas needs to move on to greener pastures. No byu, tcu or other sisterwives wanna be Notre Dames. We’re Texas. What happens here changes the World.
WVU will never be in the ACC, and Rutgers is a pretty good school

Rutgers is a darn good school ... best public school in high population New Jersey
oh hail the Purple and White
IF the ACC is not on the table, I want to push for Big10.
The Big10 network would not be affected by the LHN like the big 12 folks were. But frankly, I still say dump the network. It only hurts me since I can’t watch it. I might see more games on the Big 10 network. I don’t want to stay up until 10 or 11 for a game to even start. THAT would suck.
3rd Degree Longhorn
I think Texans are a better fit for the big ten and the people of the midwest. It should not seem unreasonable and is a complement to Texans. People in California are just too different. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. I think that Jim Delaney will have to do something. The BTN has the clearest picture of ANY channel on my dish.
I think Austin has more in common culturally with the West than Midwest IMHO
I say that having lived in Southern Cal for the last 10 years, Austin and East Texas for 18 years before that and being originally from the Midwest (Minnesota) for the first 18. I love the Midwest and the B1G would be a great option but I think Austin is where Western culture starts and the East ends. Is California different from Texas? Absolutely, but I think Texas is even more different than the Midwest when compared to the Left Coast.
