By the Numbers: Texas vs. UCLA

The only numbers we need to be concerned with from yesterday's game is 49-20, but here are a few others that might add to your elation over the win:

54,583 Game attendance
284 Rushing yards by Texas (85 last year)
168 Passing yards by Case McCoy in his first start
141 Rushing yards by UCLA (264 last year)
110 Rushing yards by Malcolm Brown
100 Wins vs. unranked opponents under Mack Brown
77 Receiving yards by both D.J. Grant and Mike Davis
45 Yards in Case McCoy's first career touchdown throw
19 UT's New rank in this week's AP Poll (which is not counted in the BCS, which absolutely blows my mind)
18 UT's New rank in this week's Coaches Poll
7 Games in a row Texas has not allowed a point in the fourth quarter
6 Receptions this season by Mike Davis that have gone for at least 40 yards
5.6 Yards per carry by Malcolm Brown
3-0 Undefeated. So far, so good.
3 Touchdowns by D.J. Grant - tying a UT single-game record by a tight end
9 (of 15) Third downs converted by Texas
+2 Turnover margin for Texas
0 Snaps by Garrett Gilbert
-3 Turnover margin for Texas against UCLA last season

AP is not counted at AP's own insistence, I believe

Wanted nothing to do with the BCS

cant imagine why...

Because being a Texas fan means never having to say you're sorry.

makes sense because...

…they dont want to dilute their importance getting mixed into the BCS banner..

Yup

The AP poll asked not to be included as a protest towards the BCS

Per Mack calling out those two SEC yahoos who had us out of the top 10

in the 2004 season. Those guys dropped out and we made it in the Rose Bowl. Mack labeled a “whiner”. Aaron Rodgers actually whines, loses to Tech. VY labeled a “winner.”
AP, rather than admit they need to do some quality control on their voting, decides they don’t want to be held accountable.

Right, but...

When people talk national champions, AP is always counted, which means there still could be 2 champions. Ridiculous. But I don’t blame the AP.

wish someone knew they actual attendance of UT fans

I saw a huge chunk of burnt orange in that crowd and i thought, “how embarrassing for UCLA.”

Because being a Texas fan means never having to say you're sorry.

Longhorns sold their allotment of 7,000 tickets

so there were at least that many fans there. I would guess maybe twice that amount. At least 10,000.

yeah,

how low would that attendence have been had we not brought so many of our own? Imagine they played a comparably successful program, but one that doesn’t travel well (say, Miami), there’d have been like 35,000 people there.

by BrooklynHorn on Sep 18, 2011 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Was there, seemed like 25 to 30% UT

Besides a scattering of burnt orange everywhere there were a couple of sections all burnt orange besides the official section of 7000 with the band.

Attendance

Sounds about like a UT/Baylor attendance number in Waco!

Probably to point out the fact that

the coaches saying “we’ll still use Gilbert as we see fit” is just coach-speak. The Gilbert era has come to an end. This was my interpretation.

Joe Parker

They used him as they saw fit… manning the clipboard and the headset…

Just kind of shocking...

No one is talking about GG not getting any snaps, which to me really signals the end of the old regime with this team. It’s something that so many fans have called for for a long time. You gotta wonder what will become of him over the next year.
