Please: No More LHN-Related FanPosts Today!

Yes, we know that many of you are frustrated that you won't be able to watch the game today, at least through legitimate means, because of the carriage dispute between LHN/ESPN and most major cable and satellite providers.

And we know that some of you want to post frequent updates and FanPosts as to who is or, more likely, is not going to be carrying the network.

But please remember that, for every new FanPost on this subject which goes up, another one is bumped off the front page.  So I would ask you, our readers, to show greater discretion over whether we need yet another LHN-related FanPost.

Please rest assured that, if there is breaking news about a major, or even not-so-major, carriage agreement being reached, BON will pass that news along -- and if you don't see BON doing so, try to share the news in one of the existing game-day threads rather than start an entirely new thread or story.

Thanks, and hook 'em!

All comments, FanPosts, and FanShots are the views of the reader-authors who create them.

Date took too long to get ready

Got stuck in traffic and had to miss the first 2 minutes of the game.

We are now no longer dating.

Ill post my update here then

TWC, stated they were still in negotiations, trying to decide whether to add to digital package or offer it as a different tier, guaranteed me that they would NOT have it today, they were very emphatic about this

I live in the

boonies of Central Louisiana….so I might as well forget about UT, let alone my Direct TV here doesn’t have ABC,CBS,NBC……..they said maybe in a few years…………..Can’t even watch LSU vs. Oregon……………and I quit drinking 2 months ago. Life sux when you get old(58)!

Move

Or at least tell direct tv you moved. Use a friend’s address who is not using Direct tv. Tell them you are moving it all yourself. I know it will not be local stations but it is better then nothing.

but I just moved

from Lake Buchanan (Between Burnet and Llano), and I’ve got direct TV, but absolutley no local channels. Remember, I live out in the woods…..

Thank god for veetle.com

Hopefully this won’t be an issue in the Kansas game. If folks in Kansas are going to be able to watch the game on another channel, so should people in Texas! This game better be on FSN in addition to LHN.

veetle and god

Does it take an act of God to get Veetle to run? I downloaded Veetle, installed it six times, rebooted three times, and still, each time I click the shortcut, I get the install wizard, then…nothing.

Since I probably won’t get LHN here in the Valley (Weslaco), Veetle seems like the best alternative.

I have Windows 7, and I’m posting here because the Veetle Troubleshooter options failed except for the last one, which suggests that I go online and ask a friend for help (yep, that’s what it says).

by MesquiteHorn on Sep 4, 2011 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions

it was incredibly easy

you don’t need the HD download, but it made it way more stable of a feed. And the picture wasn’t bad either. I didn’t even have to reboot.

From the description

I would guess it has an “e” for an icon coupled with severe retardation.

Chrome or Firefox, man!

There is so much beauty because life can be so symmetrical that it gives birth to this almost silent poetry . . . (like) a girl who's terrible at grammar saying, "Mama, you raised me good," and then being pushed down a well . . .

I did the same thing..

I tried it on IE and it wouldn’t connect but then I open Chrome and it worked fine. My laptop crashed and my old desktop has IE7 as well..Works fine with Chrome..

by bevomav on Sep 5, 2011 9:24 AM CDT up reply actions

OK, the Veetle download is “enabled” but the icon is blinking and when I click on it I am informed that Veetle is “incompatible”…with what it’s incompatible I am not advised.

I went to the Veetle website and looked for college football channels. The LHN was not there, and apparently nobody is broadcasting the Rice game. The only football game was ASU v UC Davis from last Thursday. Lots of soccer, rugby, nascar, golf, tennis, and ladies whining in Spanish about being football widows.

Are there no archives at Veetle?

by MesquiteHorn on Sep 5, 2011 11:25 AM CDT reply actions

No way that happens.
Hopefully this won’t be an issue in the Kansas game. If folks in Kansas are going to be able to watch the game on another channel, so should people in Texas! This game better be on FSN in addition to LHN.

If you could get the game on another channel, then there’d be no reason for anyone to pick up the LHN. The whole strategy is to put pressure on distributors by taking games that would otherwise be on TV away and letting Texas fans call and complain. Texas has essentially sold its fan base to the Disney corporation to be used as negotiating fodder.

So far distributors have largely shrugged. Some people called this weekend, but no one’s going to care about it again until the Kansas game, and after that no one is going to care about it again for another year, and they deal with renewals and cancellations all year. Meanwhile some fans of other schools have actually called and threatened to cancel if LHN is picked up. If Texas went independent the network would get picked up very quickly, but it could be devastating to the schedules of every sport except football. Texas has a lot of very good programs other than football, and they’re not eager to relegate them to Conference USA irrelevance.

by BigFatScott on Sep 5, 2011 4:47 PM CDT reply actions

I agree

Time Warner and other major providers need to do the right thing and pick up the network.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Hopkins...

…has chosen a “PAC16” badge for his BON’er identity…while chastising us on not getting overly caught up in hype (LHN)?

by mailliw on Sep 5, 2011 9:30 PM CDT reply actions

Reading comprehension...

HH probably is just as upset that he had to find an online stream like the rest of us. His intent of this post was to stop the plethora of new fanposts that all SAY THE SAME THING, which in turn bumps a well written fanpost off the front page. He is not chastisiing anyone for getting caught up in the hype of the LHN.

Its understandable that fans are upset, but it got old to see 7 fanposts on the right hand side of the front page whining about how messed up this is and blah blah blah blah blah. We get it. ESPN and cable companies are working on a deal. This sort of thing happens, and sadly the Rice game was the sacrifical lamb.

Gracias

There is a big difference between using an avatar as a simple way of advocating what one’s see as a preferred outcome with posting the SAME DAMN THING SIX OTHER PEOPLE JUST POSTED BELOW.

It’s gonna happen again this week with realignment (I see it brewing already) and I’ll probably be doing the same thing with those posts.

Where is my LHN

I am going to start boycott ESPN Sports next week until they get the LHN network available in Houston. It is not just the game vs Rice or the possibility of the Kansas game. It is the extra coverage; the behind the sense; other sports. We were promised LHN for over 6 months. They had enough time to market this product. They could have made it an add on channel to the big sports packages. I do not expect my 3 brothers who are Aggies to pay for the station.

I do not understand how I end up paying for Big10 football channels I don’t want but cannot get the channel I want. This is economic waste. Conference TV stations should always be a separate line item charge. If all I want is Big 12 and SEC football why am I paying for anything else. I understand why the other sports channels need to be bundled but let LHN go free.
