Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

[Update]: The Longhorns also moved into the AP Top 25, checking in at no. 24.

In the battle of attrition that is the college football season, winning is surviving. Such is the case this week for the 'Horns, as Mack Brown's squad moved up three spots to no. 21 after losses by Notre Dame, Georgia, and TCU opened up space for Texas, which also jumped Auburn after the Tigers barely survived Utah State at home.

i'll say this

If Rice’s Qb would have thrown right to our db’s on his first 2 pass attempts and we would have started at their 5 and 28, we would have dominated a bit more than we did… A&M may have looked tough but they gave up a bunch of rushing yards to Zach Line in big gashes… and SMU had a 4 inch onside kick that did not help the field position battle.. SMU was not very good… Let aggy go up against a decent team and get some comparison….

+1

Rie would probable beat SMU if they played the way they did against Texas. Rice looks like a smarter and more determined team than SMU.

The rice players are definitely smarter…

Sally, will you meet me at the airport?

SMU was good last year and is a program on the rise.

Good coaching too. Don’t get too confident in aggy beating up a ‘weaker’ team. SMU is better than Rice right now. If you had watched SMU, particularly their offense last year, you would have been impressed by the ags.

I agree SMU is no slouch like years past

that being said they are not a challenge for either of us.

Because being a Texas fan means never having to say you're sorry.

yah...

A&M and OU’s main weakness and similar to ours.. stopping the power running game. I think whoever can establish the run in those games will win

Not sure about OU…but i think by the A&M game, our power running game with MB & JB will be established and tough to stop.

yea, UTSA looked pretty good too for beginners.

"When you pass, three things can happen and two are bad", DKR, why he chose to run instead of pass.

I wish

they would have left us out for at least another week, if not two. Would be nice to keep ‘em hungry and under everyone’s radar until they’re really humming along.

Texas and TCU

Good, Texas is at least above TCU, where they belong.

Coaches Poll

So why did the Coaches Poll put TCU at 25 and Baylor at 26? Probably becasue they saw only the final score and not how Baylor jumped all over TCU in the 3rd before TCU fought back.

Excitement should be abound!

We get no love from the voters during the preseason, and we beat a cakewalk team in Rice only 34-9. I’m pretty pleased at where this offense can go and moreover that there are no great teams this year. By no means has a team just stood up and said “We’re here!” Oklahoma took care of business, but other than Broyles, what happens when a good defense stops their run (which many have in the past) and he can’t get a throw to Broyles. I was never sold on Alabama, because they have no true threat at QB. Also, the AP falls in love with LSU when they beat a Oregon squad who had to replace 3 offensive lineman and have no true threat at wideout. C’mon, right now Texas is in prime position to sneak up on a lot of people and win more games than we’re expected to. Hook ’em Horns and OU Sucks!

-The only stat that matters is the score.
