Daje Johnson to take official visit to Texas
TCU commit Daje Johnson has been on the Texas radar for some time, but communication had died down in recent weeks between the Pflugerville Hendrickson product and the hometown Longhorns.
That all changed on Wednesday when the Texas coaching staff reached out to Johnson to bring him in for an official visit the last weekend before National Signing Day.
It had appeared in recent days that Johnson had moved on, so it's unclear at this point how receptive he is to Texas other than being willing to visit.

Is he coming?
The post indicated he was invited but it seems unclear if he has accepted. In fact the thought he has moved on appears to reinforce his moving on?
Seems very odd
Staff knows one of their outstanding offers will be/has been rejected?
There’s additional attrition that opens a spot?
Not complaining . . . just wondering.
Thomas Johnson decommit
With Dontre Wilson looking like he’ll join TJ on the Flenory train to Oregon station.
Is this legal?
to continue recruiting after July?
Mayhem
I thought we had already moved on to 2013? With maybe most of the names pencilled in for 2014 as well?
I don't know anything about Daje Johnson
Other then the fact that his name has been thrown around quite a bit as someone that we technically “missed”
Would Daje be an upgrade to what we lost in Thomas Johnson?

Fiance`"No, You can't have Craig Way call our wedding.."
Me: "Damnit.."
not an upgrade
but an athelete for sure who can make big time plays..

I get the feeling that most don't think DJ would be an improvement over TJ
TJ has decent size and seems to be heralded as a natural receiver, while DJ has that Monroe/Hales frame and uncertainty of position. Obviously recruiting isn’t an exact science, but no one seems to think DJ is TJ’s equal or superior.

McCoy, my son,
if you don’t know anything about Daje, then you just aren’t up-to-date on what I’ve written about him. Go read this and watch the film that I took of him and then you will know what is important to know.

Now we just need to reach out to braylon addison...
I dont understand why we are trying to raid other big 12 teams instead of really hitting aggy and arkie.

We should try to get whatever we can where it is
Targeting schools specifically for recruit poaching is just bad form. The reason we’d be looking at the Big 12 schools is obvious however. They’re seeing the same games and have similar exposure levels to Texas as the other schools in the conference and thus are the easiest to sway.
TEXAS FIGHT
Any word on what position DJ is being recruited for?
For some reason I thought initially he was being looked at as a DB.
Most likely APB
In the DJ Monroe type of role.

If he can catch
then he’s more a Ramonce Taylor type player (minus the weed).
One could hope
I’m not sure about how Taylor was as a practice player, but he certainly contributed in games. Hales and Monroe have been relatively invisible players. There are various reports that they don’t have good practice habits, hands, or grasp of the playbook, which would be understandable. It’s also possible that there wasn’t a good role for them in a Vince-free offense, since Vince changed the way defenses had to play so much when he was in the game. I really don’t know what it has been, but I sure hope Daje could do better than those two guys have if he’s destined to play offense. With Gray in the same class, it seems like Daje could make a bigger contribution as a cornerback and return specialist.

That is probably more apt.
Johnson can actually jump cut and though he doesn’t have a ton of wiggle, he has some, plus some pretty sick acceleration. Monroe has virtually none.

just take him
Guy is a freakish athlete. He will end up on the field somewhere. Sub 4.4 guy and he blew up the Nike camp sparq record. You just can not have enough guys like this. Good chance it is at DB, but we shall see where he excels

Things is,
Johnson obviously tested off the charts by setting that national SPARQ record and outperforming Landon Collins in the process (Collins eventually beat Johnson in a second attempt in the “finals”), but you can also see how it transfers to the football field. It was impressive to see his acceleration in person. Right up there with Dontre Wilson actually as the two most electric guys I saw this year in person (admittedly small sample, as I didn’t make as many games as I would have liked, but still).

Seems like most considered Monroe and Hales freakish athletes who'd end up on the field somewhere
It just doesn’t always work that way, but utilization is a tricky thing that can change all the time.

DJ
still gets on the field. I do question is lateral movement. Daje finished 4 or 5th in the shuttle I believe. One of the more under-rated test in my opinion. So I do not think he is as “stiff” as DJ
Possibly, but this is looking at Monroe from what we've seen in college, and Daje from HS
I actually don’t recall much concern about Monroe’s lateral movement, and in fact as recently as this year we’ve had entire threads dedicated to questioning why the guy hasn’t been unleashed on unsuspecting opponents.

It's recruiting - never going to have 100% hit rate at any position or any type of athlete
Ramonce Taylor, DJ Monroe, D. Hales and M. Goodwin were all considered in the same type player role to some extent when they were recruited.
RT was an integral part of winning a NC in his short career.
By far the best combination of speed, lateral movement and power of the guys listed.
DJ hasn’t been a consistent difference maker (whether that is his fault or the OC’s is debatable), but has shown some incredible flashes, and made big contributions in some of the biggest games (MNC, OU 2010).
Hales has not contributed.
Goodwin has far exceeded any expectations (offered in track, not football during recruitment).
IMO, keep taking these kinds of guys and see how they pan out. The success rate above is pretty good.

I don't think Goodwin was considered that similar in terms of expectations or role
I think most expected him to be a return guy, or possibly there for the occasional fly route.
He certainly exceeded expectations. Monroe has had a handful of moments, but they were very few and usually very far between. As a returner, his only scores were in blowouts over UTEP and La-Monroe. He scored a touchdown that made things look possible against OU in 2010, but it ended up a loss, and his remaining touches that game were an uninspiring three carries for 5yds. and three kickoff returns for 49yds. Overall, I just don’t think Monroe’s turned out to be anything but a disappointment.
Obviously Hales has been the biggest disappointment of all of them, considering his VHT status.
I don’t remember the dialogue much, but I thought Taylor had a bigger frame with more possibility of carrying weight than any of thos other guys, and generally projected to be the back behind Benson and Young. I’m absolutely not positive on that, though, so feel free to correct me.

The consensus on Taylor was that he would be a DB during his recruitment
And he very well may have ended up there if Albert Hardy had been able to keep his nose clean.
And, if I recall, if Selvin Young hadn't had that bad injury

Murphy Around?
I can be a pessimistic sort – but does the rash of recruitng news mean bad news on DGB and MJE? Or did I get some exercis jumping to conclusions?

mej
Sounding like a long shot. Think Jesus said Mack is having issues getting an in-home. Which is OK considering where we were a month ago, but looks like we should have pushed hard on Arik Armstead. The good news is they are still recruiting, which is a great sign. It may not lead to huge dividends this year, but it shows a serious change in ther program.

has anyone else seen people talking about how DGB has ruled out Texas?
just saw a couple of Texas fans on an article talking about how he’s going to either Arkansas or Mizzou
In The Morning To You
The buzz is around Arkansas right now.

is anyone a little more credible saying this as well?
I couldn’t believe that he eliminated us especially since he is apparently friends with a few of our top recruits and since he according to Jesus Shuttlesworth recently set up an in home visit with Mack Brown when Wyatt visited him

thats wierd
I’ve been hearing its down to Arkansas and us. His lil brother is too big of a longhorn fan for him not to have enough sentimental feeling that he would keep us till signing day.
Girlfriend
She’s in Arky, he’ll be in Arky. It’s ok if it is Mizzou or Arky, as long as it is not OU.

why has our womens basketball team not offered her?
Someone tell Mack to get that going!

She's at some small school allegedly
DGB reminds me a bit Darius White. D. White was suppose to be all that, but he was very much a mama’s boy (nothing wrong that) and he just couldn’t handle life in the fast lane with the pressure of being in Austin playing top tier ball and being homesick.
I think the same would happen with DGB. Everyone talks about how close he is to his family, so he is probably making the best decision by staying as close to them as possible. He may fizzle like D. White if he gets homesick and for a kid that is tight to his family it is going to be a huge adjustment for him no matter what.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
DJ- I like the speed a lot
I hope he can be used as an offensive threat like the other DJ but with more touches and more yardage.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
