Bad News for Texas A&M
Doesn't this pretty much cover their whole curriculum?
Useless Degree #1 - Agriculture
Useless Degree #2 - Fashion Design
Useless Degree #3 - Theater
Useless Degree #4 - Animal Science
Useless Degree #5 - Horticulture
While I do not claim to be an expert on the full range of degrees offered at that fine institution, I know for certain that 60% of the degrees on the list make up the heart of the university's reason for existing.

Well I for one
would give some serious thought to attending a school if the coursework that was included involved animal husbandry and animal breeding.
Meditation is terrific and all, but I've never heard of it saving anyone from a gang rape type situation. Meditate on that. Rape.
Why pay thousands to learn something most of them learned in the barn as teens?

Not to be protecting the sheep lovers
but three of those deal with producing our food. While rural culture is declining in many parts of the state as urban areas expand and here around the Highland Lakes, which was long based on ranching, farming and mining (with mining still productive), we’re a lucky state in that we produce much of our own food. And no offense to you, but there is much more to it than what’s in the barn. From disease eradication (screwworms, hoof-and-mouth, scabies, rabies, anthrax and more) to a whole host of invasive plants and animals on a level never experienced since the Spanish came through four hundred years ago (influenza, some 17 diseases associated with horses and pigs [and our current wild pig population], and schizophrenia [none found in New World]), there serious work protecting our food and our world.
Of course, I can’t say much for fashion design or theatre.
The aggies do a damn poor job of expressing what they really do and how important it is.
All of that is true, of course...
But I think the thrust of the article was which majors are most likely to land you a job, not which majors are worth more to our way of life.
Was the thing about what they learned in barns as teens too vague a sheep-love reference?

Im no aggy apologist
but I know a lot of people in those fields and we need to be grateful for the work they do. Of course, most aren’t aggy but don’t denigrate what you don’t understand.
Funny
The latest issue of Alcalde has a spread on “UT in NYC” and the growth and prosperity that UT’s TXA program (Textiles and Apparel) is enjoying. Apparently, the program hosts an annual fashion show in the Erwin Center that drew 5,000 people this year. The article also mentions that the program has required business coursework. And it’s all relative…there are “only” 97 TXA majors right now. Is that really enough to keep up with all of the demand for UT apparel? (kidding, of course)
The business coursework probably talks about where to produce the apparel
Labor costs in College Station ought to be pretty good, right?

Wow
I know this is more a joke than a real jab at Aggie Academics, but most Aggies are engineering students so…
I think you have a much broader view of "most" than I do.
Only about 20% of undergraduates at A&M are studying engineering. The Agriculture school is not that much smaller.
OK I agree, "most" was innacurate and misleading
Engineering is the most popular major at A&M….my point still applies.
Why do you think they moved to the $EC
Acadmics are clearly not going to be their primary focus. They be a football school.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
boom.
+1
Oh. Aggies, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now.

People that call themselves aggies take issue with this article.
"A&M is a consummate insider with access to millions, yet they have managed nothing more than generations of mediocrity, and they blame it all on a cow and a television channel." - TCU'90 @ FrogsO'War
They may have a point
The original article forgot to mention that you could parlay your education into the highly prestigious field of “Companion Animal Management”.

David Schwimmer?
Saw him at a mall in LA last year, he actually lives the part of Ross on Friends. It’s really weird.

How tall is he?
Seems like all those TV / Film stars are shorter than they appear on film. Tom Cruise is a midget.
He's a 6'2" freaking Eeyore
