Who are your favorite non-Texas college basketball players?
I thought this would be a fun question to ask. Who are your favorite college basketball players other than the ones that play for Texas?
Here are mine:
Dramond Green. I love the Dancing Bear. Such an unusual combination of skills. A big physical rebounder who also handles the ball and passes. He is a big guy who makes his teammates better. He is also shooting 40% from beyond the arc this season.
Tyshawn Taylor. This guy takes loads of crap, and I don't really think it is fair. Sure, he is turnover prone, but he does so many other things really well. In our culture, we are so obsessed with what people do poorly, that we often downplay everything else. And after watching The Street Stops Here, I really want to root for him. In that movie, he seemed like such a hard working, determined, and yet scared, kid.
Tyler Zeller. A tall skinny guy who rebounds, makes free throws, and runs the court hard. In my mind, I imagine that I could have been him if I had been 5 or 6 inches taller. I probably couldn't have been, but hey, a guy can dream.

Kidd-Gilchrist is probably my favorite UK player this season
I really enjoy how hard he plays, and how many different things he does well.
(Although Jeremy Lamb is the UConn Lamb, I know realize. I always get their names mixed up.)

Not a huge name yet, but Myck Kabongo’s former teammate Nick Johnson. Love his athleticism and I think he is going to be a handful real soon.
I also like John Jenkins. His step back J is delicious.
I root hard for Robbie Hummel and his bionic knees.

KU fans hated Tyshawn Taylor as late as last season
one year later and now he’s one of their most indispensable players. Just goes to show you the value of staying in school.
We could really be a sick team if this most recent freshmen class stays all 4 years.

Thomas Robinson
It’s good to see him have the success he’s having after what he went through last season. I knew he was going to be a solid player but didn’t see him being one of the best in the country.
Does it have to be current players?
One of my favorite players to watch in college was James Harden (Arizona St.)
Going back a few years
Jeff Green of Georgetown. What a fantastic all-around basketball player. Chuck Hayes of Kentucky, as well.
76-37-5. Now GTFO.
Yes, I was lucky to watch Jeff Green
play for my Thunder. Along with one of my favorite college players in James Harden. And with KD to boot, I’ve been extremely lucky. Losing Green hurt, and hearing what he’s having to go through now has been difficult. I hope he can rebound, he’s a solid player.
One more I should add
I can’t believe I forgot him. Maybe it is just because of geographic proximity, but I really enjoy watching Tu Holloway play. He plays on both ends of the court, and just really wants to win.

Going along those lines,
I’ve always liked Collison, even though he played at KU. Rock solid. Never makes mistakes, does all the dirty work. Glue guy.
Also, Shelden Williams for Duke. He went to my high school and I followed him their and after he signed. Good player.
The "one & dones" are so numerous now that I'd have to choose from past players too.
UNLV’s Larry Johnson
St. John’s Chris Mullin
Houston’s Akeem the Dream & Clyde the Glide
SMU’s Carl Wright
TTech’s Bubba Jennings
Arizona’s Jason “JET” Terry
Arkansas’ Sidney Moncrief & Alvin Robertson
NC State’s Chris Corchiani
Oklahoma’s Hollis Price
Just to name a few … Those were ALL electric consistently-dynamite players but you could pretty much find several among any schools’ alumni. Texas has definitely had their fair share too.
Dude.
I respectfully hate Hollis Price til this day. He was such a solid player. He reminds me of a former Tar Heel player by the name of Ed Cota.
I hate him too, as I do most any athlete wearin' crimson & cream. He gave a great Texas team fits.
But you gotta admit he was just a freakin’ hot shooter whenever they played. In a year when TJ won Big 12* POY & National POY, he & Hollis were pretty much interchangeable as the best guards in the land.
Didn’t remember much about Ed Cota but another Tarheel, Kenny the Jet Smith, was one of my all-time faves.
Cota
is quietly one of the best PGs to EVER play at UNC, and that’s saying something. He broke the record of most assists in a year by any ACC player and was the first player in NCAA history to score 1,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 500 rebounds. He finished with the 3rd highest assist total ever in NCAA history. Also was a great defender.
Those were the few years I was w/out cable or satellite. Guess I didn't see him much at all.
Sounds like a great player at UNC. He’s gotta be on the “best players to have never played in the NBA” list. The list of top assists guys of all-time has Cota #3 and my previously-mentioned Corchiani as #2 (#1 assists-per-game ratio). Here’s a neat nugget about Cota from his Wiki page: “Remarkably, Cota also played an NCAA record 138 games without ever fouling out.” Very impressive.
I didn't know that.
That is impressive. I was somewhat young when I watched him be he always seemed to be that college player that didn’t test well in measurables but just won. Sad to not see him get a chance.
Probably the guy I most despised out of all Texas opponents all-time was ...
… LaceDarius Dunn. A great baller w/ a despicable attitude towards the ’Horns. Todd Day ran a close 2nd.
Nice convo
Guys I love to watch: Missouri’s entire team, Quincy Acy, Rodney McGruder/Will Spradling, Kendall Marshall/John Henson, Mike Scott, Aaron Craft/Jared Sullinger, Draymond Green, John Jenkins, Jarnell Stokes, Jae Crowder, CJ Fair/Dion Waiters
Guys I hate to watch: Dash Harris, Perry Jones III, Tyshawn Taylor, Keiton Page, the Plumlii, Brandon Paul, Erving Walker, Skylar McBee, Peyton Siva, Josh Smith
Rotnie Clarke and Courtney Fortson
Fun stuff in Fayetteville
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
currently...
Kevin Jones, Mo Harkless, JCB, Jae Crowder, Ricardo Ratliffe (Missouri in general), JCB, Kendall Marshall, Thomas Robinson, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, JCB, Aaron Craft, Tyshawn Taylor can score
hopefully Sheldon McClellan will be dynamite in a few years
