Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

AUSTIN, Texas -- Before Texas can go about adding new names to the roster Wednesday, the Longhorns had to scrub one of the existing names off. Calvin Howell, a sophomore defensive tackle, has decided to transfer, a source within the program told HornsNation. Howell was projected to contend for a starting spot in 2012 along with Ashton Dorsey, Chris Whaley, Brandon Moore and Desmond Jackson.

Why would he transfer?

He had a pretty solid year and had the inside shot at winning a starting position in the Spring.

Interesting decision by him.

Eh

Doubt it was his decision. Give this one some time to develop.

Why, Why, Why?!

I’ve been fine with pretty much any other transfer but this one will probably hurt the ’Horns next year. I had no idea that this was even in the works. I wonder if it was based on performance or on a disciplinary action.

Well, the good news is

that this move frees up #90 for MB2!

Mystery Solved

Overhead a group of football players (you know them when you see them) on the forty acres shuttle yesterday. Calvin was busted for having marijuana. I couldn’t tell by what they were saying if he had been arrested or just busted by the staff. Anyway they were basically just muttering about how stupid he was to get caught with it etc etc. I guess it’s bye bye Calvin Howell with the roster this tight.

I knew it wasn't going to be good

Especially the way Mack said he was gone and not enrolled at Texas. Even with the arrest he should have been able to stay enrolled.

My parents always said….nothing good happens at 4:44 in the morning. Well, they actually said after midnight, or maybe after the street lights came on.

We can just refer to him as triple4 from now on.

We're Texas, We're not OK.

That's funny my parents said the same thing to me when I was a kid

My friends always told me only 2 things remained open after 2am and that’s Hospitals and Legs

Littering and...

gdmt, Calvin. Promising play had us hopeful.

I wonder whether Mack just told him to leave or if he had a conversation with him to discuss options that might’ve included remaining with the team.

I am surprised...

that the police still bother to arrest people for small amounts of mj unless he was driving or disturbing the peace or in College Station. Must have been a slow night in San Marcos. And haven’t players been given a couple games suspension and stayed on the team for worse than this?

San Marcos depends a lot on Hays County sheriffs

They’re notoriously a bunch of hard asses. (Though I’ve had two interactions which tilt the scale towards neutral rather than “F tha police”.)

Was pulled over on a traffic stop.

Found the dope during the subsequent search.

So, if Ricky is supplying the team with weed ...

… is this a booster violation as classified by the NCAA? And is it the same penalty, if done in California?
