Well, all in all, ISU hit nine (nine times) three balls and Texas coughed the ball up at least seven times, it could have been worse.
It is going to be difficult, but this one is not over.

We have six freshmen and this is their first conference road game. They’ll get there; it may not be tonight, though.

Sad thing is
of those 9 three’s, the UT defence didn’t even have a hand in the face of the shooter. Defense is horrible! Rebounding is horrible! Hardly any movement from the offense!
I would be very surprised if this team can make it to the big dance.

Myck Kabongo is killing us. He’s not mobile enough on offense. He just stands behind the arch, waiting for someone to get open or something. A point guard needs to penetrate and dish or finish at the hole.

I was watching when
they jumped all over us by 14 points and Brown in the game.
Again, I didn’t think we really were a threat tonight.
Pretty sad too - no offense, no defense, and no playmakers whatsoever.
We had momentum
Early 2nd half. We had the 8-0 run with J’Covan on the floor. I think we win with J’Covan but nothing is a given with our coach. Hopefully Chapman builds off of this the rest of the way, he could then be a playmaker along with J’Covan.
McClellan was off, thats what hurt us. He needs to step up, especially when J’Covan isn’t on the floor

All ill emotions aside
Unfortunately, I dont think we will make the NCAA tournament this season. We will probably be on the “first four out”, like virginia tech has been the last 4 years.

The loss hurts.Texas needed to start Big 12 play with a win but turnovers, three-pointers, and J’Covan Brown’s rolled ankle proved too much to overcome.
Proud of the effort but disappointed in the result.
Young team will now need to bounce back quickly. As stupid as it sounds, Saturday in Austin vs. Ok St is a must win.
Hope JCB will be ready to go.

Looks our conference slate is going to be tough
This team isn’t battle ready. They remind me a lot of our football squad. Good young players but not physically ready for the college game.
Myck needs to develop a 3 and add some muscle. Not to mention he takes too many chances on D.
I’m hoping we squeak our way into the tourney and then get hot from 3 point lad and pull some upsets.
Clock is ticking for Rick. It’ll be getting much louder if we miss the tourney this year.

Do to poor coaching. I have little doubt we win with J’Covan, but we could’ve won with a coach who actually is good. Or else we may have pulled a classic Rick Barnes and choked…Again
Barnes still doesn’t run an offense. Don’t give me that Flex BS, unless the flex is run unorganized and occasionally set screens.
Barnes also needs to learn to coach in late game situations. We needed to start jacking up 3’s earlier, especially the McClellan lay-up possession . We needed to foul earlier and foul the other guy. We needed to get the ball into Chapman more.
Why do we seem to only recruit PGs who are scared to shoot? Seriously its like Dogus- the great defense is out there.
Call me crazy, but missing the NCAA tournament may be a good thing for this team. Right now that looks very likely especially if we start Big XII play 0-2. A deep NIT run may be better for our young guys to get more experience rather than being knocked out right right away. But I doubt Barnes will change his coaching style. He needs to go.

JCB put up a great 25 minutes
then twisted his ankle.
give Chappy some love — 19 points and 14 rebounds! — and barely any recognition?? terrific game for him.
McClellan was the only frosh that performed — his shooting from the field was poor (three missed 3s and 2 of 6 from close), but he attacked the basket! earning 14 free throws – definitely a good development. though he needs more than 1 rebound every 8+ minutes.
bad, bad fouls from Holmes and Bond (reaching in and moving screens)
maybe a move to JCB at point, Gibbs at the 2 (at least he’s a scoring threat – Myck’s the better defender but no steals tonight, and i’m sure Gibbs can manage to get zero steals), McClellan – 3, Chappy – 5, and Holmes/Bond at 4.
i really thought Myck would be much further along 14 games in. He was pretty lost after JCB went out, and no confidence in his shot.
if you’re expecting a glorious March, you need to readjust your expectations, and enjoy watching them grow (and stumble, and grow some more)
Losing sucks but
it was a great effort by the kids (almost all frosh) after Brown went out. Chapman’s performance was also very impressive. The game was something to build on. Because there are so many freshman among the guys who actually play (basically everybody except Brown, Wangmene, and Chapman), I expect very little from this team except improvement and effort.
