Statesman/Golden Article Proves QB Situation Concerns DGB.
Feel dirty for posting a Statesman article but there is some interesting stuff here:
"What assurances have the Texas coaches given you that this quarterback thing will be fixed, if you sign?
'We've talked about it a whole lot.'''
Let's hope he likes what the sees with Brewer and/or Wallace because he's clearly not smitten with the current roster.

Some interesting tid-bits
All the prior rumors were that he was rooming with Durron Neal, who is a WR commit to OU. Given his close family ties I doubt that Washington is on his radar, and it is good for us if Neal isn’t trying to pressure him toward OU.
Also, Jay Norvell, the OU WR coach is rumored to have interviewed for the Wisconsin OC job. http://newsok.com/ou-football-news-report-says-jay-norvell-has-interviewed-for-job-at-wisconsin/article/3637555
If Norvell is leaving OU that is another positive for the Longhorns becasue OU is likely being eliminated by DGB on that news. Finally, the Wallace news at QB may be the move that seals the deal for DGB….I hope.

It's being reported
That Norvell has withdrawn his name from consideration and is staying at OU. Sorry.
I knew you'd miss me sooner or later (get it the pun? ;-)
So, how long does my ban from C&C last? Did it expire on the New Year and I get parole or am I lifer?
I thought Norvell was one of the problem areas, especially with the alleged fight with a player and all. Was there any truth to that fight thing and if so, who was the player?
We're Texas, We're not OK.
Seriously, do you think he "pulled his name"
Or that he was told they are going another direction. Hard to believe he went all the way to interview and then he was the one that decided he didn’t want to take a job promotion to OC. Which means, he is likely going to interview again for an OC job.

Looks like DGB isn't as optimistic about Ash's future as many of the BONers are!
Great players make great coaches, but great coaches make champions." DKR circa 1964
Coaching and Program Momentum > Current Roster, IMO
If GG was in his signing class and we had Colt slinging next year, would that make it a great situation for him? Nay, nay I say.
We have some potential there- Ash showed well late in the season, and I’m figuring Bo Wallace will be on the team shortly as well. We’ll have a seasoned guy throwing the ball next year, and if that seasoned guy goes downed, there will be another one behind him.
Any recruit hopefully understands that his prime performing days for NFL paychecks are going to be 3-4 years from now. Definitely not how everyone sees it by any means, but hopefully DGB understands that Texas offers him the best shot of being a star on a championship team in the window that matters most to him.
Texas vs. OU for DGB
At least David Ash has a year of actual playing time under his belt. If Jones stays at OU DGB will have 1 year with a proven decent QB, then have the rest of his time with Drew Allen and Blake Bell who have not thrown any passes in game time situations. Or, if Jones does go pro this year, OU has no proven QB.
David Ash played as a TRUE FRESHMAN and I think he did really well considering he had little practice time in the summer as the No. 4 guy and then to play as well as he did in the bowl game. The kid is going to be really good, and Bo Wallace will actually help a lot. I think if we land Bo Wallace we will land DGB. If not, I say 50/50. I don’t think DGB will go to OU now. I think it is between us and ARK or Mizzou.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
Right. Regarding the development of Ash, I don't think people are respecting the LACK of reps he
got because of the QB carousel to begin the season, then the McAsh situation where he had to split reps. Not to mention the adjustment period of the whole team to Harsin’s style. As well as the destruction of all the RBs once he started to get in the swing of things. Then the loss of the only complete receiver. He dealt with a lot of adversity and he handled it very maturely.
As you say, I’m confident he will actually improve with more practice, coaching and familiarity with the system. And this optimism is based on his lack of mistakes in the bowl game after just a few weeks of attention.
Almost everything about the University of Texas should be more attractive to a youngster like DGB than OU is
But the young QB stock certainly isn’t one of them.

The Challenge
Is OU has a tried and true offensive system that has wrecked chit for years now. The players come and go, plug and play, but the high paced offensive system goes on. With us, right now it looks like we are making stuff up as we go along. How can DGB look at what we do and conclude where he fits in whatever scheme we come up with in 2 years?
Change isn't good or bad it just "is". Don Draper of Madmen
Yep, that's exactly it
OU is very proven when it comes to QB performance. Even when they’re not winning, they’re still going to have lots of passing yards. The one real exception to that was when Paul Thompson had to be the emergency QB for almost a full season after Bomar’d.

I brought up the same ?
And I was soundly rebuked, for being negative. DGB is like most feature players, he wants the ball. With all the good running backs that we will have 2012, and Shipley as well, there are only so many touches he can expect. With maybe 7 or 8 passes per game coming his way, and only 3 or 4 being catchable, he has reason for concern. Then you mix in Harsin’s use of a tightend in the true Boise offense, his chance to shine becomes even smaller. I would love to have the kid come to Texas, but only if that is where he will be happy. Maybe they should sell him on the likelyhood that Shipley will miss part of the season due to some kind of injury. Sorry about that last bit of negative thinking, couldn’t help it when Shipley went down. “Oh no not again” If all he is looking at is his NFL draft stock, maybe he should go elsewhere. Am I the only one that is tired of the revolving door that college athletics has become? Just venting.
Any player like him should not be thinking of being a ball hog in college
He should be hoping to have fun playing his 2 years or 3 years without being hurt to save his body for the NFL.
The average WR’s career in the NFL is very short, so his main concern should be to shine enough to get the NFL big money, followed by staying healthy.
Average NFL Career is 3.3 years. Shortest is RB at 2.57 and then WR at 2.81 years. Jonathan Gray was VERY SMART to come share reps. with Malcolm Brown. DGB would be smart to not worry about being the lone go to elite WR guy on his college team, but rather save his skill and body for the NFL.

We're Texas, We're not OK.
Blackmon was only targeted 9 times on the fiesta
but turned it in to 8 catches for 186 yds and 3 TDs. So its not about the #, its about what you do with it once its thrown to you. Also, the RBs for Texas will leave more chances for him to get 1 on 1 coverage as teams try to stack the box. It goes both way.
He needs to go where he will be most comfortable. His talent is so huge that NFL scouts are already watching so is he does his job, work hard, and develop, he will still be a high draft pick. NFL scouts rarely are persuaded by gaudy stats. Owners, Jerry Jones and Al Davis especially, might be, but not really football guys.

Scouts can also look past poor QB play
Worked for Calvin Johnson, for example.

Darius White
Was suppose to be the next Roy Williams, so I’m trying not to put too much stock on DGB. I definitely want him on the 40, but I really want to us to keep the speedster Thomas Johnson.
We're Texas, We're not OK.
That's a point I always try to keep in mind
Gilbert was supposed to be a legend, White was supposed to be a star, etc., so it’s not really worth projecting big things from Gray, Brewer, DGB, etc.

I hope DGB wasn't watching the UA game tonight.
As it says in the article, he wants to do research on Brewer. Yikes.
27-25: SCOREBOARD - to infinity and beyond!
Seeing as the Black team had to steal a White QB because everyone else was in traction,
he would have to be unbright to come to that conclusion. But I know what you’re saying. It was not pretty.
Ash can sleep well tonight
I also watched the UA game, every one seems to be covering for Brewer, that the Oline play was his problem. And it was ugly, but why did Kelly look so much better when he got his turns. To me, Brewer looked like GG all over again. I saw highlights of Brewer in one of his HS games and wasn’t impressed, still not. But on the plus side, I feel like my Overstreet stock just went up. On the White team, the kid going to Cal, Kline I think it was, looks an awful lot like Case McCoy to my eyes.
